For all those poll lovers out there (myself included)...how many of you really love BTMRR? I'm a HUGE fan of this ride. I can remember riding on the Steam Boat (August 1980) and seeing BTMRR ready to carry passengers...too bad it wasn't open. But three years later---OMG!!! There aren't any big drops but hey--the theming alone carries this ride.

Its a great ride, has great theming, and is a classic. I would not wait long to go on it like I did in the 80s.

Thanks for the memory Disneyfan1971, I can also remember when they were building it in the late 70's. I don't remember any superstructure being present but the wooden wall was up with themed drawings and a coming in 1980 sign on it (don't quite rember if it was a specific month or a season mentioned). I can also remember the long lines to get on when it finally opened of 1 to 2 hours and being so excited the whole time we were in the queue. I remember the first time we rode it I was a bit freaked out by the section where you see the broken track before you drop, great effect . Still one of my favorite MK rides, thank goodness for fastpass :mickey:.

When we were there in May of 07 my ds3 was so excited that he was tall enough to go on this. I've never seen him smile so much- we went on this ride 3 times in a row. He loved it and so do I. Great ride!

This is one of me and DBF's favorite rides! We will never miss this ride on vacation! We will make it a point to ride it no matter what! And not to mention the several times we ride! :mickey:

It looks like BTMRR is winning by a landslide, or is it a rockslide. Definately one of the best themed rides and just the right mix of excitement that the whole family can enjoy it.

I definitely like it, but it's been years since I've been on it (pre-fastpass). We waited an hour in the blazing heat. Then when we left we had a sort of "we've done that ride a million times in our lives; is it really worth the wait anymore?" type of feeling. Not taking away anything from it's greatness :mickey:...just not worth an hour's wait anymore. :ill:

Actually, I feel like starting a topic on this. Thank you for the inpsiration!

I took a spin in January anmd it was actually cold out making the experience a little bit more exciting not to mention :freeze:

Something about BTMR at night is just so awesome ... One of my most vivid memories from our visit to WDW in the 80's was riding Big Thunder right before park closing with my Dad.

It was empty, so they'd let us go around and around a few times in a row without getting off. I loved that.

This is hands down our family's favorite ride!!! :coaster:
My DS(9) hates the "tummy drop" roller coasters, and sits out a lot of the others - which mens my DH or I have to sit out too (our DD love thrill rides). This one, however, we all ride and love it every time! We have ridden it no less than 15 times per visit to the World.

I agree 100% with the post above - it is even better at night!!

Replied "Love it" but with a slight reservation that for us taller folk the switchback section kills my back as the top of the seat lies below my shoulder blades.

Agree with the original post - the theming is great!

Wow! I figured that the majority would vote for "I love it," but I expected a few "I hate it" votes. However, the results right now are 76-0.

Absolutely love Thunder Mountain!!! It is a family favorite for us. The theming is amazing and each time we ride it seems as if someone picks up something different. There is just enough thrill to satisfy the more hearty among us but it is also tame enough for the faint of heart. What a Disney Classic!

My favorite time to ride it is at night. It seems to add so much more to the ride. And if we're lucky enough to be riding it during the fireworks it's an added bonus.

Love it:thumbsup: Remember watching it go up in the late 70's. My favorite memory though is when DD was 4 and on her first trip. As we checked in at the WL, she asked if we could ride Big Thunder - well, we had length of stay passes and said why not (it was nighttime). She sat between me and my wife and her eyes were big as saucers on the whole ride. She was raring to go again when it was all over.

We love it!! I prefer the back, but will take the middle or back further. I won't ride in the front, no fun for me. I like the herky-jerky!! 193 more days.:mickey:

this is one of my must rides! to me this ride is one of those rides where I definately get that "I'm home" feeling that us WDW lovers get. It doesn't have air time, big drops, inversions or all that ; but then again it doesn't need any of those things. It's perfect just as it is. :number1:

They also run the train on both sides if the crowds are low...makes for twice the ride!
We have had this happen quite a few times, but most recently in Jan during EMH

one of the best memories of our WDW honeymoon was:

A rainy day in August 06 park had low crowds.
We went on the ride and it realy started coming down and they let us stay on twice without getting off.

It was like time stood stilll.........

We were kids again......

I love it, but have too much arthritis to be jerked around. Can't do Star Tours or EE either. I can do TofT, and MS, but that's as wild as this old lady can tolerate.

I love BTMR!!!! I like riding it in the day but it becomes a completely different ride at night. It is just one of those rides where you can't stop smiling no matter how many times you've been on.
