Nov. 3, 1896 – Illustrator Gustaf Tengren was born in Yastergotland, Sweden. Known for his Arthur Rackham – influenced fairy
tale style and use of silhouetted figures with caricatured faces, Tengren was a chief illustrator for The Walt
Disney Company in the late 1930’s. He worked on the features “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” “Bambi,” and “Pinocchio,” and the shorts “The Ugly Duckling” and “The Old Mill.”
Nov. 3, 1910 – Disney Legend Irving Ludwig was born in Russia. In 1920 his family would immigrate to the U.S. and Irving would be raised in Brooklyn, N.Y. During his 40-year career with Disney, he would serve as president of Buena Vista Distribution.
Nov. 3, 1922 – The Laugh-O-Gram silent cartoon “Puss in Boots,” directed and co-animated by Walt Disney, was released.
Nov. 3, 1933 – Actor-dancer Ken Berry was born in Moline, Il. His Disney credits include “The Cat From Outer Space” and “Herbie Rides Again.” (TV fans know him best as Wilton Parmenter on F-Troop and Vinton Harper on Mama’s Family.)
Nov. 3, 1934 – Disney’s Silly Symphony cartoon “The Goddess of Spring” was released.
Nov. 3, 1950 – Disney’s Goofy cartoon “Hold That Pose” was released.
Nov. 3, 1952 – Voice actor Jim Cummings was born James Jonah Cummings in Youngstown, Oh. In 1983, the increasing illness of long time Winnie-the-Pooh voice actor Sterling Holloway will lead to an open call to replace him for the movie “Winnie the Pooh and a Day for Eeyore.” Cummings’ uncanny audition would kick start a successful voice career that would include “The Lion King,” “The Fox and the Hound 2,” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End.”
Nov. 3, 1954 – The Disneyland TV series featured an edited movie version of “Alice in Wonderland.”
Nov. 3, 1955 – The Mickey Mouse Club aired the episode “Today is Circus Day” on ABC-TV.
Nov. 3, 1961 – The Twilight Zone episode “It’s a Good Life” 1st aired on TV. Rod Serling’s introduction to Disney’s Tower of Terror attraction (as viewed in the library) was taken in part from this very episode.
