Nov. 1, 1924 – Disney’s Alice Comedy “Alice Gets in Dutch” was released.
Nov. 1, 1921 – Animator Retta Davidson, one of the few women animators who worked for Walt Disney Studios during the Golden Age of American animation, was born in Areadia, Ca. After graduating from high school in 1939, she would join Disney as an inker and painter, where she would work on “Pinocchio,” “Bambi,” and “Fantasia.” Often credited as “Redda Davidson,” she would retire from the animation business in 1985.
Nov. 1, 1926 – Disney’s Alice Comedy “Alice Cuts the Ice” was released.
Nov. 1, 1936 – “Harper’s Bazaar” printed an article by Janet Flanner titled “Boom Shot of Hollywood.” Her observations included, “certainly the sanest spot in Hollywood is that studio exclusively devoted to the creation of delicate deliriums and lovely lunacies – the fun factory of Mickey Mouse, Miss Minnie and Mr. Walt Disney, Incorporated.”
Nov. 1, 1940 – Disney’s cartoon “Mr. Mouse Takes a Trip” was released.
Nov. 1, 1940 – Tony-Award-winning actress/singer Beth Fowler, the original Mrs. Potts in Disney’s stage musical “Beauty and the Beast,” was born in Jersey City, N.J. She also supplied additional voices for the 1998 “Mulan” and sang on the features soundtrack.
Nov. 1, 1946 – Disney’s Donald Duck and Goofy cartoon “Frank Duck Brings ‘Em Back” was released.
Nov. 1, 1946 – In preparation for the Georgia premiere of “Song of the South,” artist Fred Moore and Dick Mitchell, along with production expert Frank Bresson and voice artist Clarence Nash opened a “miniature studio” at the Bell Isle Arcade in Atlanta, Ga. The exhibit included Moore and Mitchell drawing sketches for visitors, demonstrations of the animation process, and showings of a preview of the picture and scenes from Disney’s 1941 “The Reluctant Dragon.” (“Song of the South” would premiere on Nov. 12th at Atlanta’s Fox Theater.)
Nov. 1, 1955 – The Mickey Mouse Club aired the episode “Today is Guest Star Day” on ABC-TV.
Nov. 1, 1957 – An article titled “Walt Disney’s Mechanical Wonderland” appeared in Popular Mechanics. It told of Disneyland’s “genius” attractions.
