Oct. 28, 1898 – Animator Rollin “Ham” Hamilton was born in South Dakota. Starting in 1924, he would work on many of Disney’s early shorts such as “Harem Scarem,” “Neck ‘n’ Neck,” and nearly all of the “Alice Comedies.” (Hamilton would go on to help originate the Warner Broas. Cartoon studio with Hugh Harman and Rudolf Ising, also former Disney animators!)
Oct. 28, 1902 – Actress Elsa Lanchester was born in London, England. Her Disney credits include the live-action features “Rascal,” “Blackbeard’s Ghost,” “That Darn Cat!,” and “Mary Poppins.” (Horror film fans will know her best as the Monster’s wife in The Bride of Frankenstein.)
Oct. 28, 1933 – Disney’s Mickey Mouse cartoon “The Pet Store” was released.
Oct. 28, 1923 – Mrs. Davis (mother of actress Virginia Davis) wired her acceptance of Walt Disney’s offer of $100 a month for her daughter to star in his Alice films. Although the Davis family must move from Kansas City to California, Virginia’s mother, a stage struck housewife, was excited at the idea of her young daughter being in show business.
Oct. 28, 1949 – Kay Kamen, The Disney Studios licensing representative for the last 17 years, was killed in a plane crash.
Oct. 28, 1952 – Actress Annie Potts, the voice of Bo Peep in both Disney’s “Toy Story” films, and the voice of Syrinx in Disney’s TV series “Hercules,” was born in Franklin, Ky.
Oct. 28, 1955 – The Mickey Mouse Club aired the episode “Today is Talent Round-Up Day” on ABC-TV.
Oct. 28, 1962 – Disney’s part-1 of its 2-part TV movie “Sammy, the Way-Out Seal” aired. (Part-2 aired Nov. 4, 1962)
Oct. 28, 1971 – The Dapper Dans of WDW performed their 1st show at a convention center in Cocoa Beach, Fl. since relocating from Disneyland.
Oct. 28, 1974 – Actor Joaquin Phoenix, the voice of Kenai in Disney’s 2003 animated “Brother Bear” was born in Puerto Rico.
