Oct. 21, 1911 – Artist Mary Blair (born Mary Browne Robinson), known for her unique color stylings and design work in Disney’s “Alice in Wonderland,” her design work in Disneyland’s “It’s A Small World,” and her ceramic tile mural in the lobby of WDW’S Contemporary Hotel, was born in McAlester, Ok.
Oct. 21, 1925 – Walt Disney’s 25th Alice Comedy film “Alice in the Jungle” was completed.
Oct. 21, 1933 – The Warner Brothers musical feature “Footlight Parade,” starring James Cagney, Joan Blondell, Ruby Keeler, and Dick Powell, was released to theaters. (A scene from this film is represented in the Disney-MGM attraction “The Great Movie Ride.”)
Oct. 21, 1934 – Paul Winkler (a Frenchman of Hungarian origin) launched an official Disney magazine called “Le Journal de Mickey.” (Winkler would be named a Disney Legend in 1997.)
Oct. 21, 1939 – An interoffice memo from Walt to his brother Roy and studio worker Gunther Lessing reads: “Everything we do in the future should include television rights. There might be a big angle on television for the shorts we have already produced.”
Oct. 21, 1951 – Disney’s Goofy cartoon “Fathers Are People” was released.
Oct. 21, 1955 – The Mickey Mouse Club aired the episode “Today is Talent Round-Up Day” on ABC-TV.
Oct. 21, 1959 – Doctor Wernher Von Braun, (who helped Walt Disney produce a series of space related TV shows in the mid 1950’s) arrived at NASA. President Dwight D. Eisenhower signed an executive order transferring the brilliant rocket designer and his team from the U.S. Army to the newly created National Aeronautics and Space Administration.
Oct. 21, 1962 – The Walt Disney Wonderful World of Color TV show aired “Man Is His Own Worst Enemy” on NBC-TV.
Oct. 21, 1965 – Walt Disney received the final script for Disneyland’s latest project… “Pirates of the Caribbean.” Five days later dialog recording would begin with performances J. Pat O’Malley and Paul Frees.
