Welcome to: "Get to Know Your Fellow Intercotees"

Let's start with an easy one....

Question 1 is about your first trip to WDW.

10-16-2008, 02:08 PM
Oooh, fun! Great idea!

10-16-2008, 02:12 PM
I love these polls. This is going to be such fun. I am glad you thought of it.

My first trip was in 2002.:mickey:

This is going to be SOO much fun!! My first trip was in the 80s. 1986. It was with a band I twirled with. They were called the Blazers Band and us twirlers were called the Blazerettes. It was so much fun!! I have been hooked since the first visit!!

10-16-2008, 02:34 PM
I cannot remember the exact year of my first trip or how old. I do remember I was a young child. At that time it was only the MK. Everybody was dressed up by today's standards. I had a white purse that I carried - not sure why I remember this. Our party included my mother, uncle, aunt and myself. I cannot remember anybody else. I am sure the rest of my siblings were there but simply didn't make into the old memory bank :(

I remember the wonderful smells down Main Street :cloud9: Everything was so new and different - I was just amazed.

I remember waiting in line (for a long time) for SM. Once we got to the front of the line, we chickened out. I have not gone on SP yet :blush

Boy...old childhood memories can bring a smile to your face :mickey::cloud9:

Thanks for the trip down memory lane

10-16-2008, 02:36 PM
I didn't go to the World until 2004...although I planned and dreamed about it A LOT before that.

10-16-2008, 02:58 PM
My first trip was to DL in the late 60's with my family. First trip to WDW would have been shortly after it opened. Next trip was 1995 with my husband, daughter who was 5, and my mother. Since then it's been at least once every year.

10-16-2008, 03:03 PM
My first trip was in 1975. The entire extended family went, and we stayed at Ft. Wilderness. I still remember serveral things vividly, and recall how I never wanted to leave. I still get that same feeling at 40:thumbsup:

10-16-2008, 03:07 PM
I'm pretty sure it was 1980, but I may be wrong, it could have been earlier, maybe 1978 or so.
Space Mountain was fairly new still and Epcot wasn't open yet. All that was there was Magic Kingdom, and that was a three day park back then. ABCDE tickets were needed.
Side note, International Drive was incomplete, Wet & Wild was about half the size!

10-16-2008, 03:58 PM
My very first trip to WDW was in 1994. I never got to experience the parks back in the 70s or 80s. I was very glad I got to experience Horizons before it was replaced by Mission:Space and the original Journey Into Your Imagination. I wish they would redo JIYI because I really don't like this incarnation.

1974!!! :number1: and still going strong!

Great Thread!!

10-16-2008, 04:32 PM
Easter 1981. It was amazing. I was twelve.

10-16-2008, 04:39 PM
My first trip was in the spring (I think) of 1986.

My father's company was having a convention in Orlando and my parents took the ooportunity to have our first ever WDW trip. We were blown away, though there was only Epcot and MK at the time. That was plenty! :mickey:

I chose 1980's because we started going as a couple for the first time the year Epcot opened. Great time and really represents our start. But I had been there in the 70's before we met and my first trip to Disneyland was 1957or 58.

10-16-2008, 05:09 PM
My first trip to DL was in 1978, and my first trip to WDW was in 1986. :mickey:

10-16-2008, 05:14 PM
My DW and I went to WDW on October 11, 1992 for our Honeymoon. Great time. We have been hooked ever since.

10-16-2008, 06:08 PM
My first was around 1973-74. I had an aunt in Tampa, so there were many visits after that.

10-16-2008, 06:33 PM
My first trip was when I was six, which was in 1990! We stayed at a campground in Kissimee!

This is fun!

10-16-2008, 07:02 PM
My first trip was in 1979. I was four years old and my mom was pregnant with my sister. I don't remember where we stayed. My parents still remind me to this day of the number of times I insisted on going on the It's a Small World ride. I was sound asleep on my dad's shoulder every night when they left... with a Mickey balloon tied to my wrist.

10-16-2008, 07:20 PM
First trip was in 75 (hence my screen name)...DW and I took DS#1, then 10, DD#1, (7), DD#2 (5), and DW's parents. We stayed 3 nights in the Contemporary.....Recall that on our very first trip, the FT Wilderness launch was passing over the road to the Contemporary....We spotted the castle as we approached the Contemporary. So many highlights to that first trip, but the very best part was discovering that we were expecting DS#2 as we journeyed home.

10-16-2008, 07:24 PM
What a great thread! Love it! Great Idea!
My first trip was a surprise thanks to my dad...in 1992...my first ride was Figment, only ride Dad was able to ride due to having a St. Jude's heart valve...Me and dad rode it together :-) So figment will forever hold a piece of my heart :cloud9:

1973, mom and dad brought us for the first time, been hooked ever since :mickey:.

10-16-2008, 08:40 PM
My first trip was in 1988 with my Dad. I remember pulling up to EPCOT... it was at night... and I just thought Spaceship Earth was the most beautiful thing I had ever seen! :cloud9:

10-16-2008, 09:46 PM
My first trip was in 1976! :mickey:

10-16-2008, 09:51 PM
MY first trip was in 1987, but...

my family (me, DD, DH)'s first trip together was in 2004.

10-17-2008, 04:09 AM
My first trip was with my parents in 1977. I was 12.

I distinctly remember riding POC 3-4 times because my dad loved it. Also, I recall the HM and eating dinner in Cindy's Castle.

The 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea submarines were sooooo cool! They need to bring those back!!

10-17-2008, 08:08 AM
Way back in 1988. Went with my aunt, cousin and mom.

10-17-2008, 08:34 AM
My mom drove us to WDW rightafter getting divorced from my dad, i remember it as the first vacation (of many) that was just with her and my sisters.
We had a great time, even though we didnt have alot of $$
But i do remember it well-

10-17-2008, 08:53 AM
My first trip was in 1994. I was 7 and had won a radio call in contest, and then we got offered a discount rate on a Big Red Boat cruise and Disney trip. We were supposed to stay offsite at a Hilton (I think, maybe Hyatt?) but they were overbooked and we got moved to All Star Sports! We went back in 1996 and have been going at least once a year since! (Except this year :( ) But I'm all about planning for next year!

10-17-2008, 10:12 AM
My first trip to see the mouse was for my belated honeymoon/anniversary in 2007. It was the first for DH as well. We haven't brought our kids yet, although DS will be visiting for the first time next year and DD will be coming in 2011 .

10-17-2008, 10:24 AM
1986, at the age of 3. We stayed at the Royal Plaza. :mickey:

10-17-2008, 11:16 AM
1974 then it took me a wicked long time to get.

10-17-2008, 11:27 AM
My first trip was a Thanksgiving weekend trip during 1980. I can still remember riding Space Mountain for the first time and one of my sisters was so tiny, my step mom was afraid she would fall out. It was crazy fun.

10-17-2008, 11:47 AM
My first trip was in '72. It was DD, DM, my 2 DB's & myself. We stayed offsite in Kissimee, I seem to be the only one other than DM that remembers it. It's funny, I remember the most obscure things about that trip. The pancake breakfasts in the hotel restaurant, the bell bottom striped pants everyone ( including me) seemed to be wearing, a Steel Barrel Drum Band that played in Adventureland, and my DM's favorite ride... 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. Oh yeah, I also recall buying toy guns and actually being able to carry them through the airport & on the plane. We flew Eastern Airlines, the " Official Airline of Walt Disney World". Things were alot simpler back then. :)

10-17-2008, 01:10 PM
my first trip was in 1984..i was 16 months old..i dont remember a thing (obviously)..lol..:mickey:

10-17-2008, 01:56 PM

10-17-2008, 05:14 PM
My first trip was a paid trip by my parents for me 31, DH 29, DD3, DD4. Know I am addicted and so are my girls. DH not so much.:mickey:

10-17-2008, 05:25 PM
My first trip was 1988 during Christmas. I was in 8th grade, we drove down and stayed in Cocoa Beach and drove to Orlando. I remember loving that I was swimming on Christmas Day.

Our first trip was in 1983. Only MK and EPCOT were open, and we stayed at the Contemporary. Our kids were 10 & 12. We stayed five days, and it was truly magical. Our first ride was the one they tore down and replaced with Test Track. (Oh, the aged mind is soooo disconnected). Every trip is special, but that one was so memorable.:mickey:

10-17-2008, 07:34 PM
I was a kid in the 80's with my family. I remember that Epcot was being built but not the year:mickey:

10-17-2008, 08:36 PM
80s for me. :mickey: Signature lists all my trips and where we stayed.

10-17-2008, 09:51 PM
Sometime in the 80's between March 31, 1985 and yeah....somewhere in there....born and bred in the Briar Patch.

10-17-2008, 10:47 PM
1974!!! :number1: and still going strong!

Great Thread!!

Great Idea!! Love these polls!
1974...Only Poly, Contempory, and The Golf Resort...oh yeah and just the Magic Kingdom. Boy, have things come a long way since then!:mickey:

10-17-2008, 10:55 PM
My first trip was in either 1991 or 1992, I am not really sure. I was about 3 or 4 years old!

10-17-2008, 11:23 PM
i went to WDW for the first time in 1977 at 4 years old. i would NOT get off cinderella's golden carousel. a few years later we went for the opening of Epcot. My dad got us a room at the contemporary with a view of the MK for one night during our stay. i remember him telling me and my brother that it cost 100 dollars. i remember thinking that was SO MUCH MONEY i just couldnt believe it!!! the lines were soooo long at Epcot for the rides... but i absolutely LOVED everything there. for some reason i have very clear memories of World of Motion. needless to say i've been hooked for a long time.

10-18-2008, 08:29 PM
I think it was 1972.

10-18-2008, 08:46 PM
My first trip was in 1974. Then we were there the year Epcot opened, the year MGM(I know, HS) opened and a somewhere around the time AK opened. There a few other in between, but I don't exactly remember.

10-18-2008, 08:48 PM
My first trip was in June of 2001 with my DH and three of my best friends. It was a blast. But I has five months pregnant with my third child at the time and we are going back in April!!!

10-18-2008, 08:52 PM
My first trip was in the early '80's, I think 1985. I was 3 at the time and the only things I really remember were riding Dumbo and chasing down Goofy (for some reason I don't remember Mickey at all!). Mom still laughs at Dad because he was from WV where, at least at that time, "real men" did not wear shorts. She said he was about the only person there in jeans! Since then he has agreed to at least where shorts on vacation. Our next trip I was in 3rd grade and got to get out of school 2 days early...I bragged about that! I remember that trip a lot more!

10-18-2008, 09:05 PM
My first trip was in 1977 - I was 7 years old and my whole family went (all 7 kids and my parents). My Dad had a business trip at various places in the South so we packed up the car, hooked up the pop up trailer and away we went for 3 weeks, with our main destination being WDW. We were not originally staying in Fort Wilderness, but after having to leave a scary campground outside of New Orleans, we moved to a new campground and met this great family from California (whom my parents kept in touch with all these years). They were supposed to be meeting family at FW, but they cancelled, so since they still had the reservation, they gave it to my parents! :mickey: I don't remember very much, but I do remember being bitterly disappointed Cinderella's castle was not a "real" castle to explore - and I remember Chip or Dale stealing my seat at the movie at FW. This trip took place during the NYC blackout of '77 and our new friends had this little black and white TV and I remember all the adults grouped around it watching the news from NY!!

10-19-2008, 11:30 AM
1975 as a 16 yr. old, I won a trip to Disney World - it was only the Magic Kingdom at that point. Trip was not offered in 76, but I won it again in 77 and 78.
While I don't miss the A-E tickets, they did make you think about what rides and how often you could ride on each one.

10-19-2008, 12:42 PM
My first trip was February 1972...at the ripe old age of 4 months. :D

I was 12, it was 1977, and I was forever smitten. I got a plain white Mickey Tee shirt and now my DD, age 12 wears it at night to sleep with her PJ bottoms. I'll never part with it!

10-19-2008, 06:18 PM
It was 1976, my parents and my sister drove down from NJ in a car with vinyl seats and no air conditioning! We stayed at a Days Inn outside the park. I remember my favorite ride was Pirates and HM. We also went to River Country. The next time was in 1986 on my honeymoon. :mickey:

10-20-2008, 07:33 AM
1977 first time,then in 2000 as a dad,three times since.we're a disney family now!!!!

10-21-2008, 08:18 AM
My First trip was in 1995. I was 30 years old.

10-21-2008, 08:22 AM
We arrived at the Contemporary Resort for the first time on September 14th, 1974.

10-21-2008, 04:44 PM
Twenty-nine years ago with DH. I had never imagined, growing up loving Disney, that I would actually get to go. He started it!:mickey:

10-21-2008, 09:07 PM
My first trip was in 1976 when I was five. My parents went to daytona speedweeks and took me to see the Magic Kingdom on our way through as my present.

We camped at Fort Wilderness where I met my first 'Possidilly'. I was a bit precocious, somehow I knew at age 5 that the armadillo wouldn't hurt us. My parents flew into the camper as I sat patiently at the picnic table and exclaimed "mom, the Possidilly won't hurt us!":D

10-25-2008, 08:48 AM
My first trip was in '72. Rode the HM and was scared half to death. Now it's my favorite. Love looking at old videos of how the park was back then. I can remember having lunch and a young rock band was playing where Sonny plays now.

10-25-2008, 10:18 AM
The 70's when we took our two young daughters for the first time. Our first trip to Disney was to DL in 1976 for our DD's first birthday. Then when we moved back to AL we took them to WDW.
