Oct. 4, 1822 – Rutherford B. Hayes, the 19th U.S. President, was born in Delaware, Oh. He could be visited along with all the U.S. Chief Executives at the “Hall of Presidents” attraction in the Magic Kingdom at WDW.
Oct. 4, 1924 – Actor Charlton Heston, the narrator of Disney’s 1997 animated feature “Hercules,” was born in Evanston, Il.
Oct. 4, 1926 – Disney’s Alice Comedy “Alice in the Wooly West” was released.
Oct. 4, 1945 – Actor-songwriter Clifton Davis was born in Chicago, Il. His Disney credits include the 2001 feature “Max Keeble’s Big Move” and the 1988 TV special “Walt Disney World 4th of July Spectacular.”
Oct. 4, 1946 – Actress Susan Sarandon, the voice of the Spider in Disney’s 1996 “James and the Giant Peach,” was born in N.Y.C.
Oct. 4, 1955 – The second episode of “The Mickey Mouse Club” aired on ABC-TV. Comedian Wally Boag (from Disneyland’s Golden Horseshoe Revue) appeared on Guest Star Day. The 1953 cartoon “Mickey’s Kangaroo” was also shown.
Oct. 4, 1957 – Actor Bill Fagerbakke, the voice of Sven in the 2003 “Atlantis: Milo’s Return,” and the voice of Mooch in the 2001 “Lady and the Tramp II: Scamp’s Adventure,” was born in Fontana, Ca. (Besides being the voice of Patrick on SpongeBob Square Pants, Fagerbakke also appeared on the hit comedy series Coach.)
Oct. 4, 1975 – Imagineer Yale Gracey, who devised many of the illusions for the “Haunted Mansion,” retired after 36 years at Disney. He would continue to consult on special effects and lighting for attractions at WDW and EPCOT Center in Florida and later be named a Disney Legend.
Oct. 4, 1982 – Fortune magazine featured a cover story on Florida’s newest theme park, EPCOT Center. The article entitled “Disney Gambles on Tomorrow,” explained that “The success of Epcot is critical to Disney’s future prosperity, for the fabled entertainment company has recently suffered unaccustomed reserves.”
Oct. 4, 1987 – The Wonderful World of Disney aired part-1 of “The Journey of Natty Gann.” (Part-2 aired Oct. 11, 1987)
