What would you suggest for a daily mousekeeping tip at the Beach Club? My friend said $10 but that seems like a lot.

I created envelopes for each day of our stay. On the first day, I put in $1 per person to see how well it was cleaned. The next day, I put in $2 per person. We also saw our cleaning lady each afternoon and spoke with her. She took great care of us. At the end of the week, I handed her an additional $20 because she took care of us: extra towels, altered her cleaning time for our room for naps.

The suggested amount is $1 a day per person in the room...if you get extra special service you can always give a bit more:mickey:

I would agree with the pp. I like to leave a little more the first day and see how it goes, if well the possibilities are endless.
I always tip every day. I have found you get much better service that way since it motivates Mousekeeping to work a little harder.

We tip a dollar per person each day. At the
end of your stay you could have another house
keeper and if you tip at the end of your stay
then that one gets it all so we tip each day. It
is fun for the children when they make wash
cloth and hand towels critters for them.

We also tip based on $1 per person per day, unless we've been super messy or are requesting additional towels/shampoo/hangers, etcetera. On the other side of the coin, we have on occasion stopped tipping due to poor service received.

Same goes for us.

I leave $5 a day but now that there is five of us I suppose that fits the models the PPs use. This trip I am going to start leaving the tip daily so that the person actually cleaning the room gets the tip. To leave $65 at the end of the trip and have it go to someone covering for the other housekeeper on her day off I would feel bad. Good luck.
I very rarely get towel animals at WDW. Nor do they ever set up the children's animals in the room. Maybe this year we'll luck out!

1) Housekeepers make a good hourly wage, plus incentive pay.
2) We find it not necessary to tip WDW maids.

Thank you for saying that. I was beginning to think I was the only one who thought this.

When we stayed at a non-DVC resort we would tip one dollar per day no matter how many people but we would only pay it at the end of the stay not every day.

We tip $2 per person (2 of us). Sometimes we just throw a $5 in the envelope if we don't have any singles.
Other than POR, we've always had excellent service.

I'm just curious. What do you consider being well paid? I have no idea what they make so I assume you do.

When I did payroll at a hotel they started at minimum wage and most of them would still be earning a very low wage after being there for years. And the "Incentive" they got was only for cleaning extra rooms. They have an allocated number that they are responsible for each day but if someone was out those rooms still needed to be cleaned so that helped get them cleaned.
I always tip $1 per person per day since you don't always have the same housekeeper each day.

Quote from TheRustyScupper on another thread (http://www.intercot.com/discussion/showthread.php?t=143038&goto=newpost)also regarding mousekeeping which might answer your question:
1) Don't know the average.
2) Effective 9/28/08, base max at $12.47, exclusive of incentives or bonuses.
3) Recent newspaper ads had starting pay of $9.25/hr. *
4) Plus, new housekeepers have been getting up to a $1500 sign-on bonus.
* By contract, WDW can hire housekeepers above the starting rate of $8.00.

For 2 of us, sometimes 3 of us, we tip $5.00 per day.
I'd also like to note that many times I make the beds and we keep everything picked up, put all the dirty towels into the tub and tie up any bags in the baskets that are full. I think of our room as my home and pretty much do my best to take care of it as if I was at home.

i worked as a housekeeper one summer in college. trust me- they don't get paid enough to deal with some of the things guests do to the rooms. and no i'm not saying you would treat the room that way. just some people leave the room very disgusting. i always tip. i remember how nice it was to find a tip usually in the cleanest room. the dirtest people don't tip.

I don't know for sure, but $9.25/hr for a job that requires little education or skill is not that bad. Of course, they could go private and probably make more money. I still tip $1 per person or more if they do a great job. I do try to make it a habit to talk to them if I see them.

I understand it can and is done but personally I cannot begin to imagine supporting a family (or even myself) on that kind of wage. I know we all chose our paths but I prefer to tip the person cleaning up after myself and my family. We too keep the room clean by picking up after ourselves and putting things away (I'll admit I do not make my own bed but do pull up the covers most of the time). I'm sure the little bit extra it costs us goes a long way with those that receive it.
