Sept. 14, 1912 – Disney master animator Frank Thomas was born.
Sept. 14, 1928 – Walt Disney (visiting New York) wrote a letter to his brother Roy and animator Ub Iwerks about the upcoming recording session for “Steamboat Willie.” Walt has hired Carl Edouwarde to conduct the session. (Carl led pit orchestras in theaters.)
Sept. 14, 1935 – Russi Taylor, the voice of Minnie Mouse since 1985, was born in Ca. (She is married to Wayne Allwine, the voice of Mickey Mouse.
Sept. 14, 1937 – Walt Disney screened 1000 feet of his newest animated feature “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” for RKO executives. They believe the picture would make “plenty of money.” (At this time RKO was distributing Disney’s cartoons.)
Sept. 14, 1955 – The Disney film “Peter and the Wolf” was released.
Sept. 14, 1955 – Disney’s True-Life Adventure film “The African Lion” was released.
Sept. 14, 1955 – The Disneyland TV series opened its 2nd season on ABC with an edited version of “Dumbo.”
Sept. 14, 1964 – U.S. President Johnson presented Walt Disney with the Medal of Freedom, (at the White House), the nation’s highest civil honor.
Sept. 14, 1964 – Actress Faith Ford, who appears in Disney’s 2005 comedy feature “The Pacifier,” was born in Alexandria, Louisiana.
Sept. 14, 1969 – “The Wonderful World of Disney” TV series began airing on NBC-TV. (Ended Sept. 2, 1979)
