Several years ago, I was at Disneyland in California and rode Space Mountain. The seats had on-board stereo speakers that played a space-age style rock n roll song throughout the entire ride and each dip and turn seemed to be choreographed to the music.

Fast Forward to 2008. I have two questions. I know Space Mountain in Disneyland has undergone several re-models. Is it the same as I just described? I seem to remember reading that it was changed drastically with the music being taken out.

Secondly, will Space Mountain in Florida ever have on-board music?

We asked a SM cast member this last week, and he said after rehab it will likely have a soundtrack.

Space Mountain at Disneyland still has onboard audio, they just changed the soundtrack. The new version of the ride is the exact same layout, just new track, cars and effects. IT ROCKS! The new soundtrack was done by the same guy who did the music for The Incredibles. I like the old Dick Dale soundtrack better.

As far as WDW getting sound, I have no idea...

Personally, I'm dreading the makeover at WDW. I can ride "our" SM over and over, but when I rode the DL version with soundtrack it made me:ack:. I'm not quite sure why the sound addition got to me but I tried it on more than one day and it got me every time!

I loved how the music would build as the car ascended to the first drop.

Is there a time-table as to when the change might occur in Florida?
