I know some of you have been lucky enough to be chosen as "The Family of the Day" for MK opening ceremony. I was wondering how early before the opening did you get there? Do you have to be there really early? Thanks for your advice!

1) Arrive about 30-min early.
2) Then,
. . . be enthusiastic
. . . be dressed appropriately (not slovenly)
. . . be really lucky

Now for the stupid question, what exactly does the Family of the Day do/get?

We have been lucky enough to be selected "Family Of The Day" a couple of times @ Epcot. The first time they chose us. We ALWAYS get to the parks early, usually early enough to be 1st in line. (45 min to 1 hr before opening-w/coffee and breakfast), and while standing there, a woman w/ a clipboard, was walking along the gates, stopped in front of us and called out..."I need a family of 3 and my hand shot up IMMEDIATELY! And off we went! The 2nd time, my DH saw her (not the same woman) 1st and asked if she was looking for a family of 3 for family of the day, and she said yes and there we went again! Why 3? Well they drive you around in one of the Test Track cars and it only seats 3 in the back seat. We were escorted back into the park (before the opening), took photos w/all the caracters, driven up to the waiting crowd, introduced as the family of the day, welcomed them to Epcot, and then driven back to the TT and MS area and allowed to be the first to ride both attractions by ourselves before anyone else. And all along the way was greeted by the CMs waving @ us w/their big "Mickey hands". We were given all of our ride photos free, as well as Fastpasses to ALL of the FP attractions. And as we proudly wore our "Family of the Day" badges, the CMs would always acknowledge us in some way all day long! IT WAS WAY COOL!!

I so wish I had known about this before as we are a family of 3 and would have loved to try and become the family of the day.

Probably not. But I don't think I have ever seen a big group be the Opening Family. I think the biggest one I've seen was a group of 5 or 6 open the MK.
