Aug. 21, 1920 – Daphne Milne, wife of writer A.A. Milne, gave birth to their son Christopher Robin Milne. Christopher would be immortalized into his fathers books “Winnie-the-Pooh,” and “The House at Pooh Corner.”
Aug. 21, 1921 – An 18” high teddy bear from Harrod’s in London, was given to Christopher Robin Milne on his 1st birthday. The bear would be named Edward Bear before being changed to Winnie-the-Pooh. This is the same bear that was put on display at The New York Public Library in 1987.
Aug. 21, 1929 – Vance Gerry, a writer, story artist, character designer, & layout artist for Disney, was born in Pasadena, Ca. Gerry would study art at the Chouinard Art Institute before being hired at Walt Disney Studios in 1955 as an assistant in-betweener. His work would include such classics as “Oliver & Company,” “The Black Cauldron,” “The Great Mouse Detective,” “The Fox and the Hound,” and “Jungle Book.”
Aug. 21, 1956 – Actress Kim Cattrall, who appeared in Disney’s 2005 “Ice Princess,” was born in Liverpool, England.
Aug. 21, 1989 – Actress Hayden Panettiere, who appeared in the Disney 2005 feature “Ice Princess” was born in Palisades, N.Y. She also supplied the voice of Suri for the Disney animated “Dinosaur” and the voice of Dot for Disney/Pixars “A Bug’s Life.”
Aug. 21, 1992 – The Disney/Touchstone film “The Gun in Betty Lou’s Handbag” was released.
Aug. 21, 1995 – The PeopleMover (sponsored by Goodyear) closed at Disneyland, and would be replaced by Rocket Rods.

Vice Chairman Roy Disney’s Family trust agreed to sell up to 7.5 million shares of the 17.3 million shares of his Disney holdings to credit Suisse First Boston representing 43 percent of his stake in the second largest U.S. media company, which we received $125 million in the stock sale.
