Aug. 16, 1890 – Animation giant Myron “Grim” Natwick, who was a key player in the creation of Snow White, was born in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin.
Aug. 16, 1925 – Actor Fess Parker, who played the Disney role of Davy Crockett, was born in Fort Worth, Tx.
Aug. 16, 1930 – Disney’s Silly Symphony cartoon “Midnight in a Toyshop” was released.
Aug. 16, 1934 – Donnie Dunagan, one of the many voices of Bambi in Disney’s 1942 classic, was born in San Antonio, Tx.
Aug. 16, 1934 – Walt and Lillian Disney arrived in Honolulu, Hawaii aborad the Matson liner Lurline.
Aug. 16, 1939 – Actress Carole Shelley, the voice of Amelia in Disney’s 1970 “The AristoCats,” was born in London, England. Her Disney credits also include “Robin Hood,” “Hercules,” and “Jingle 2 Jungle.”
Aug. 16, 1943 – Sharon Baird, a member of the 1950’s “Mickey Mouse Club,” and appeared on the 2001 TV special “Walt: The Man Behind the Myth,” was born.
Aug. 16, 1954 – Disney’s true life adventure “The Vanishing Praire” (directed by James Algar) was released. Narrated by Winston Hibler, this film would be re-released in 1962 as “Large Animals That Once Roamed the Plains.”
Aug. 16, 1955 – “Dumbo’s Flying Elephants” opened at Disneyland’s Fantasyland.
Aug. 16, 1958 – The “Fire Truck” Main Street Vehicle debuted at Disneyland.
