Aug. 8, 1907 – Publisher and Disney Legend Alkaios Angelopoulos was born in Patra, Greece. He would start Educational Materials Enterprises S.A., a company to represent foreign publication and film companies in Greece. In 1953, Walt Disney Productions will join his roster of prestigious clients.
Aug. 8, 1927 – Disney’s Alice Comedy “Alice the Beach Nut” was released.
Aug. 8, 1942 – Disney’s 5th animated feature “Bambi” had its world premiere in London, and would not be released in the U.S. until 5 days later.
Aug. 8, 1945 – Disney’s Educational film “Hold Your Horsepower” illustrating farmers ability to produce more crops, and care for machinery, was delivered to the Texas Company.
Aug. 8, 1952 – Disney’s “The Little House,” narrated by Sterling Holloway, was released.
Aug. 8, 1953 – Animator Jim Jinkins, the creator of “Doug,” was born in Virginia.
Aug. 8, 1967 – Lee Unkrich, who was the supervising editor for Disney’s “Finding Nemo,” and “A Bug’s Life,” was born in Cleveland, Oh.
Aug. 8, 1969 – For the 2nd night in a row, the new Haunted Mansion in Disneyland opened to Cast Members only, and would open to guests the next day.
Aug. 8, 1976 – Joshua Scott Chasez, a member of the 90’s TV show “The All New Mickey Mouse Club,” and a member of the singing group NSYNC was born in Washington, D.C.
Aug. 8, 1995 – The Toronto production of “Beauty and the Beast” opened at the Princess of Wales Theatre. The live musical starred Kerry Butler as Belle and Chuck Wagner as the Beast.
