Aug. 5, 1930 – Neil Armstrong, the first man to step foot on the moon, was born in Wapakoneta, Oh. In July 2005 he would take part in the re-opening of Disneyland’s Space Mountain.
Aug. 5, 1949 – Disney’s Donlad Duck cartoon “Honey Harvester” was released.
Aug. 5, 1967 – Disneyland’s “Adventure Thru Inner Space” attraction in Tomorrowland opened. Guests were transported through a microscope where they are shrunken down and sent off to explore the inside of an atom. This was the 1st attraction to use the OmniMover system to transport guests through an attraction. (Closed Sept. 2, 1985)
Aug. 5, 1981 – Site work began for Horizons at WDW’s Epcot. Construction actually would not start until January 1982.
Aug. 5, 1987 – The Disney/Touchstone film “Stakeout” was released.
Aug. 5, 1988 – The Disney/Touchstone film “The Rescue” was released.
Aug. 5, 1992 – “Brandon Adams” was the 400,000,000th guest to visit WDW.
Aug. 5, 1997 – Disney’s “Pooh’s Grand Adventure – The Search for Christopher Robin,” was released directly to video.
Aug. 5, 1997 – Hollywood Records released “Air Bud,” an original Walt Disney Pictures soundtrack album.
Aug. 5, 1998 – The Wonderful World of Disney TV series aired the two-hour TV movie “Tourist Trap.”
