We all know we have those certain things - smells, sights, sounds, etc. - that we associate with being in a WDW theme park and some are a little more odd than others. Here's one of mine - I work in a mall and recently the secuirity workers have begun riding around on a Segway. Now I have never done, or seen, for that matter, the Segway tours in Epcot and Fort Wilderness, but for whatever reason I always associate the Segways with WDW. Weird...

Wondering what other "oddball" everyday things out there create an association with WDW?:confused:

When we eat at a TGIFridays or some place where the staff wears "flair" buttons/pins. I immediately think we should go and try to trade with them...

I'm have a really strong sense of smell, thus, smells are what sets my mind into motion! In the fall when people start lighting fireplaces, I always think of that smoky, musty smell inside Spaceship Earth!! I can even hear the narrators voice in my head!!

For whatever reason, anytime I'm in an air-conditioned room, it reminds me of being in one of the indoor attractions at WDW. Oh, and when I'm in a parking lot where a lot of seagulls hang around, I think of eating in Frontierland at the MK.

For me I think it is just building themeing. If I go into a restaurant, park or any area of Wellington and it is themed in any dramatic or particular way, for some reason my mind always says... YUP! Very Disney.

Lol, I also associate Segways with WDW. Wish I could get a license to drive one of those instead of a car :(

I associate french braids with two things - dance recitals, and walking around WDW.

Our old car's air conditioning used to smell identical to Splash Mountain. It would always bring me instantly back to WDW.

also any sort of outdoor mall reminds me of downtown disney...

and for some reason the Foxwoods Casino in connecticut...anyone been there and get what I mean?

One of the electric doors at work makes the same *bing bong* sound that the monorail doors make when they're going to open or close. (Or at least that's the sound they made when I was last there in '01). And it always takes me back.

In the summer, when we walk by a store just as the door opens and the air conditioning hits us, it reminds us of walking by stores in WDW with the cool air coming out and hitting us.

When you walking down the sidewalk at an outdoor mall in summer and someone opens a door and you get hit with a blast of AC. :mickey:

Yesterday in Wegman's the demonstration chef was cooking something that smelled like a dish at the Whispering Canyon Cafe.

I think I know what you mean - even more so at Mohegan Sun - theres just more "fun" stuff to do.

I totally agree with the outdoor mall, too.

Going out in the summer in early morning when it's still nice and warm - that does it too.

There is a Cheddar's Casual Cafe in the town where I live that always reminds me of Animal Kingdom Lodge when I eat there. It's not that the theme is exactly like AKL, but there is something about it that seems similar.

Everytime I smell wood burning I imeadiately think of the Animal Kingdom Lodge with it's open hearth fireplace. That smell always brings be back there!!

We agree with the smell of sunscreen.

A sound and smell that reminds us of WDW is the city bus. Just as it is pulling away it gives off that smell and the sound of the buses pulling away from the parks or the resorts.

Believe it or not, every day that I walk into work, I think of WDW. Not because my workplace reminds me of WDW, but the 1st thought to mind is..."I WISH I WAS @ WDW!" :yay: But if I had to associate smells w/memories, it would be smell of toasted nuts. :cloud9: If I smell those anywhere (malls, restaurants, etc...) I immediately think of the little cart just outside The Land @ Epcot that has them. I have to have some every time we go to WDW, and have begun making them @ home.:D

The 7-11 down the street sells the Nestle tollhouse ice cream sandwiches, just like the ones at WDW ice cream carts. Every time I see those, it makes me wish I was there.

And cinnamon sugar = churro = WDW.

The bus smell and sound is exactly what I was thinking.

This is a great thread especially since I had one of those moments out of the blue last week.

My DH and I were driving in the car with the windows down during the last bit of the sunset and as we were driving pass a lake (we have a lot near us) I got this whiff of lake, wet grass, combo, don't really know how to explain it, but as soon as I smelled it I could picture myself walking through the queue at BTMRR at night as well as boarding the boat to go to the MK from the WL at night. I told my husband and of course he thought I was crazy  but he sort of got it too.

Normally it's the more traditional sights and smells that bring it on but boy was that vivid, I could even feel the wood and metal rails that seperate the queue area there. :cloud9: Wish I was there now. Oh well, only 66 more days :fworks:

OK, here's a weird (but very true) one that just occurred to me this am>>>>
automatic flush toilets (LOL)
The first time I ever saw a "self-flushing" toilet was in the Comfort Station at Pioneer Hall (near where they used to sell tickets). I know this is an odd one, but every time I ..uh.. see one, I am taking back to that cool clean bathroom when I first saw one as kid.
