Aug. 2, 1920 – Voice actor, writer and producer Bill Scott was born William John Scott in Philadelphia, Pa. His Disney credits include “George of the Jungle 2” and “The Gummi Bears.” He is known as the voice of Bullwinkle J. Moose in the animated “Rocky and Bullwinkle Show.” (During WW11 Scott served in the U.S. Army’s First Motion Pictures Unit where he reported to Lt. Ronald Reagan, and worked with animator Frank Thomas.)
Aug. 2, 1995 – The WDW Resort opened at 11:00am on this day due to the threat of Hurricane Erin.
Aug. 2, 1995 – In Aspen, Co. 36 Disney executives gathered (for 3 days) to brainstorm ideas for a second Anaheim – based theme park to be built next to Disneyland. The result would be a plan for Disney’s California Adventure.
Aug. 2, 1998 – Passengers aboard Disney’s Magic maiden voyage set foot on Castaway Cay for the 1st time. Located 225 nautical miles from Disney’s home port of Port Canaveral, Fl. Castaway Cay is 3.1 miles long and 2.2 miles wide.
Aug. 2, 1999 – Disney’s newest ship the Disney Wonder was escorted into Port Canaveral for the 1st time, by its sister ship the Disney Magic.
Aug. 2, 1999 – Disney’s comedy series “Thanks” began airing on CBS-TV. (Ended Sept. 6, 1999)
Aug. 2, 2001 – Dick Van Dyke, songwriter Richard Sherman, and Julie Andrews rededicated Soundstage 2 in Burbank, Ca. to The Julia Andrews Stage. Andrews filmed Disney’s “Mary Poppins” and “The Princess Diaries,” at this location.
Aug. 2, 2001 – Guy Williams, the star of Disney’s Zorro series, was awarded a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
Aug. 2, 2002 – “The Bangles” performed two shows at Disney’s California Adventure.
Aug. 2, 2002 – The Disney/Touchstone Picture film “Signs” was released.
