I know that it has been asked a bunch. But, I just can't seem to find the thread.

We are going in September (3 adults and 1 DD) and will be on the DDP for 7 nights.

My questions are ---

how much do you budget out for tips for your trip?
How much do you tip on a buffet?
What % do you do for TS?

I know it will depend on the service that we receive but I was just curious!!

Thanks for your help!!

I budget about $7-10 for TS lunches, $15-20 for TS dinners, more if they are signature dining $35ish. I generally tip around 20% for both TS & buffets. These are ballparks - it depends how it rounds and the service.

ETA...this is for 2 adults traveling. We usually have a drink with dinner.

I do the same, but I do tip a little less for buffets. This time on the DDP,I will take an envelope of $5,$10s and $20's to use just for tips, probably about $200 in total for 8 TS meals. This is an estimate on the high side, so I anticipate bringing some of it back home.

20% minimum all around, and more if the service warrants it.:mickey:

:D That made me chuckle. Somehow, I never bring any back home... :D

I figure 20% and round down the pennies for good service. Round up or throw in another $5 or $10 flat for expectional service.

18% at a buffet for good service.

I budget about $12-$15 a day per person for meal tips.

some of disneys buffets choose for you.

I always tip 20% even if the food is not that good. It's not the waitresses fault. As long as the service is OK it's 20%. If the service is terrible I won't leave anything, but that has only ever happened 3 times and never at Disney.

:) 15-20% depending on whether is buffet or regular TS....a bit more if exceptional service, a bit less for terrible service......peruse the menus section to get an idea of what you might order....calculate tips based on that

Ok, maybe not bring it home but not use it on tips.
ALthough we tend to over estimate what we will need per day on vacations and lots of times we do bring money back. I would rather have too much then be caught short or have to watch my dimes.

My question is about the $12 to $15 a day per person. That would mean for us that would amount to $48 to $60 for 1 TS meal tip, I don't think so. :(
Maybe this is for more than 1TS Meal per day?

I don't think so either. $60 is, in fact, only about $10-$20 less than we would spend on an entire meal for the four of us at our favourite restaurant here at home. I'm certainly not leaving that as a tip. I plan on bringing a bunch of $5's and $10's to use towards tips. I can't see tipping $20 anywhere; for a server to bring us 4 drinks, 4 refills, 4 entrees and 4 desserts. I don't understand why the amount of the tip should be predicated on the cost of the meal anyway.

We tip just like we do at restaurants at home: 20% for good service, higher for excellent service, or lower for poor service (which we have been lucky never to experience at WDW). At buffets, we tend to leave just the DDE automatic 18% tip. :mickey:

A good rule of thumb if you aren't sure how much to tip is to multiple your sales tax by 3 and round up. The sales tax in Florida is 6%.
