July 12, 1985 – Richard Buckminister Fuller, visionary, designer, architect, and inventor, was born in Milton, Massachusetts. It is widely believed he developed and named the geodesic dome first, from field experiments with Kenneth Snelson and others at Black Mountain College in the late 1940’s. Epcot’s Spaceship Earth attraction is a geodesic sphere.
July 12, 1925 – Disney’s Alice comedy “Alice Wins the Derby,” featuring Margie Gay as Alice, premiered at the Piccadilly Theater in N.Y.C.
July 12, 1942 – First-year Mouseketeer Dennis Day was born in Las Vegas, Nevada.
July 12, 1957 – The “Shooting Gallery” attraction opened in Frontierland at Disneyland.
July 12, 1961 – The 1st draft of the screen play was completed for Disney’s film “Mary Poppins”.
July 12, 1961 – Disney’s live action adventure film, “Nikki, Wild Dog of the North”, was released.
July 12, 1967 – The Disney film “The Gnome-Mobile” was released.
July 12, 1971 – Disney’s live action comedy “Now You See Him Now You Don’t”, starring Kurt Russell, Cesar Romero, Joe Flynn, and Jim Backus, was released.
July 12, 1983 – The “Show Biz Is” show opened in Tomorrowland in the Magic Kingdom at WDW. (Ended Sept. 27, 1985)
July 12, 1987 – The Disney unsold pilot “Cameo by Night” aired on NBC.
