So should we both audition together? :D We could go on as "Justin" and Questiona, the Romana del Comedio act.

:funny: you are certainly on a roll.. or maybe a biscuit... hmmm... can I have some gravy with that?

:D

I began to post somethng about cowboys, but I was afraid a mod. would take it the wrong way, so I erased it...

Who can tell me what "pony up" refers to?

Cowboy up is another way of telling someone to toughen up and get with it! I would assume that pony up is along those same terms.. but then again...

Yep.. Stitch is ready on his backhoe! And he's had his coffee!!!

Umm.. are you SURE you would want to eat anything cooked over Alex's shorts?

Yes.. I'm part Italian... and I LOVE to cook! I make a killer homemade spaghetti sauce! It's my grandma's recipe...handed down in our family for many years! Straight from the Naples Italy area.

We have to start thinking on how we're decorating Scott's place since Stitch is ready to go!!!
He never comes and visits us anymore, Di, so he'll be keeping those shorts!!:D

Di, does that killer spaghetti sauce hang out with my killer cheesecake? I don't thin anyone will be wanting to eat our food!!!:D

You put 'thin' in the same paragraph as 'spaghetti' and 'cheesecake'? Hmmm.

Morning all, hope everyone is well. I don't feel like myself today, and you ask, who do I feel like? Well I don't know, just sad today :( I guess I'm still adjusting to not having the kittens anymore, and various other things. Not much in the Disney or any other kind of spirit today. DH's job is so stressful on me (but interestingly not so much for him) and yesterday he didn't get his commission check until late and didn't make a deposit until 5:04 pm so all of these bills put us in the red. No charges have posted yet but I'm sure they're coming. I'm hoping they might have pity on us since he was only 4 minutes "late", but somehow I doubt it. This just is the tip of all the problems that his work causes.

Sorry to vent, I'm going to go back to work now. Have a good day all

Scott seems to be a big Stitch fan :D so let's give him a Stitch theme!

Cheesecake is a great dessert to have after eating my homemade spaghetti (if you have room left).

You put 'thin' in the same paragraph as 'spaghetti' and 'cheesecake'? Hmmm.

Do you think that was done on purpose?

Did you take my "k" away? :D

Important message: There has been a recall on the letter "K"... please do not use this letter as it has been tied in with various killer foods.. Thank you...

We're still waiting for the pictures from the recital. Did you see "Outrageous" last night? Somebody doing a belly dance lost her skirt in mid-shimmy. It was awful--her red briefs clashed with the green skirt.
Was it Carol...... eh ? :D

Oh, a cowboy needs a horse, needs a horse, needs a horse
And he's gotta have a rope, have a rope, have a rope
And he oughta' have a song, have a song, have a song
If he wants to keep ridin'
:sing:

Yes.. I'm part Italian...
Which part ???? :D

As long as Diane is singing.... try this one.

:sing: Jack o' Diamonds, Jack o' Diamonds and I know you of old
You've robbed my poor pockets of silver and gold
It's a whiskey, you villain, you've been my downfall
You've kicked me, you've cuffed me, but I love you for all

It's a whiskey, rye whiskey, rye whiskey I cry
If I don't get rye whiskey, well, I think I will die

I'll eat when I'm hungry, I'll drink when I'm dry
If the hard times don't kill me, I'll lay down and die
I'll tune up my fiddle and I 'll rosin my bow
I'll make myself welcome, wherever I go

Rye whiskey, rye whiskey, rye whiskey I cry
If a tree don't fall on me, I'll live till I die

Beefsteak when I'm hungry red liquor when I'm dry
Greenbacks when I'm hard up and religion when I die
They say I drink whiskey, my money's my own
All them that don't like me, can leave me alone

Rye whiskey, rye whiskey, rye whiskey I cry
If a tree don't fall on me, I'll live till I die

Sometimes I drink whiskey, sometimes I drink rum
Sometimes I drink brandy, at other times none
But if I get boozey, my whiskey's my own
And them that don't like me, can leave me alone

Rye whiskey, rye whiskey, rye whiskey I cry
If a tree don't fall on me, I'll live till I die

If the ocean was whiskey and I was a duck
I'd dive to the bottom to get one sweet ****
But the ocean ain't whiskey and I ain't a duck
So we'll round up the cattle and then we'll get drunk

Rye whiskey, rye whiskey, rye whiskey I cry
If the whiskey don't kill me, I'll live till I die

My foot's in my stirrup, my bridle's in my hand
I'm leaving sweet Lillie, the fairest in the land
Her parents don't like me, they say I'm too poor
They say I'm unworthy to enter her door

It's a whiskey, rye whiskey, rye whiskey I cry
If I don't get rye whiskey, well, I think I will die

Sweet milk when I'm hungry, rye whiskey when I'm dry
If a tree don't fall on me, I'll live till I die
I'll buy my own whiskey, I'll make my own stew
If I get drunk, madam, it's nothing to you

Rye whiskey, rye whiskey, rye whiskey I cry
If a tree don't fall on me, I'll live till I die

I'll drink my own whiskey, I'll drink my own wine
Some ten thousand bottles I've killed in my time
I've no wife to quarrel, no babies to bawl
The best way of living is no wife at all

Rye whiskey, rye whiskey, rye whiskey I cry
If a tree don't fall on me, I'll live till I die

Way up on Clinch Mountain I wander alone
I'm as drunk as the devil, oh, let me alone
You may boast of your knowledge an' brag of your sense
'Twill all be forgotten a hundred years hence

Rye whiskey, rye whiskey, you're no friend to me
You killed my poor daddy, God darn you, try me

:D

I began to post somethng about cowboys, but I was afraid a mod. would take it the wrong way, so I erased it...

Who can tell me what "pony up" refers to?
Trust me..... I know ! :scared:

Pony up means to pay up or return something you borrowed, I think !

:funny: you are certainly on a roll.. or maybe a biscuit... hmmm... can I have some gravy with that?

Sure.... possum gravy ???

This just is the tip of all the problems that his work causes.

Welcome Beth!! No initiation, just cookies needed....
Wow... after over a year alone on this site with
those three, I must be certifiable.... (hush, peanut gallery....)
Shhhh!!! That was MY secret!!!
No - the question now is - what do you do to make him "feel the love"??? Trust me, there are ways..

Thanks, I sent the pralines which are really candy but kinda look like cookies
Certifiable? I have a rubber stamp for that if it helps. :D
Oh about the love. Want me to tell you why I was exempt from my human sexuality final?

I wonder how many people will be sent to the hospital this year because of all the heat.
Is it hot for you today?
We are having a cool spell here. The expected high is only 90 and currently 86% humidity :ack:

Gulp..... maybe not.... I should have known better..... Bret warned me about you... bye........
Poor Bret, he still thinks I'm the nice one. Watch out Pogo because you may end up as "flat Pogo" on my next trip:thedolls:

People are littering your highways with recipes?
:( no I was compiling family recipes and drove off with them on the roof of my car.

I think you are fully qualified for JQ!!
I LIKE her - she can stay!!!!! Did you bring cookies?
Anyone have any chocolate - preferably DARK chocolate? (Its good for the soul, ya know?)
Thanks, humidity is too high for pralines today or I would make you some chocolate ones. You have to eat them quick because they tend to get fuzzy if they get too humid. They look like little chia pets.

Hi Beth! Welcome aboard the JQU express. Things go pretty fast around here. I had to go through 3 pages worth and I have only been gone like what 9 hours.

Thanks, I see I have to change how I do things.

Oh man..... you mean I've got to go and get a summer job ?????
So you can let go of the spring one. Since we only have 2 seasons here (summer and not so summer) does that mean I only have to work twice a year?

Guess who's done with her project? The one she's been programming since last June? The one she's been planning since December 05? The one that finally got approved in March of last year? The one she already finished once back in March and then had to jump through flaming hoops about?
There's a round of celebratory margaritas making their way to you right now!

Oh yum! I'll go get the ice cream right now!

My personal favorite is two days before it's due, "Mom, I have a book report due." (Particularly when you've asked about the progress in reading said book for weeks before.)

Dark chocolate on its way to you!

Anyone want to come celebrate with me?
I'm packing the car as we speak. Would love to celebrate w/ you... :congrats:
Ah Ellen, this white puddle? is this the ice cream? ewwww.
And be careful with those dark chocolates, I have a lot of pups around here.

HEY! Looks like we've just found our Guidance Counselor for JQU! And with this group it could be a beyond full time job!

Yes.. I'm part Italian... and I LOVE to cook! I make a killer homemade spaghetti sauce! It's my grandma's recipe...handed down in our family for many years! Straight from the Naples Italy area.
I wish I could use the sick friend excuse.. but alas, this is supposed to be our 15 year anniversary trip so he definitely would not be for me going somewhere without him...(though I might have more fun that way!)

I can guide everyone right down the wrong path:thedolls: I'm not really Italian, I lie, I'm really 1/2 Sicilian. I have my gm's recipes too. Hope I didn't lose those on the hwy. We should compare notes. I have several sauces, depending on what goes with them.
Really wish you could come. I want to go w/o kids so I can have fun.

I'll celebrate with you!!! Congratulations!! I also finished that costume. I had to totally redo the top.

I used to do East Indian dancing many moons ago. More the hand symbols and stomping about. I would love to see your costume too.

Welcome to JQ! And, thanks for the pralines.
Thanks, there is no shortage of nuts for the pralines huh?

Do you have any green tea?
Have you tried the lipton green tea w/ citrus?

Guess what?? You fit in here perfectly!!! Thanks for the pralines.... yummm!!

And last I knew, the only person cooking possums around here is Jym... . you know, "Road Kill Cafe"....

Yes, I've been known to make even Angel and Jeanne speechless.
Thanks, as long as there are plenty of nuts I can keep making the pralines.
Jym always did have the taste for the finer dinning huh?
I'm making Bruscioloni tomorrow night, hope that recipe isn't somewhere down I-10. Anyone want to join me? That's the Sicilian name.
So what do you stuff in your bruscioloni? :D

If I don't post in like 7 or 8 days that will because I'll be in NJ spending time with family.
Sandy, have a great trip!!

Hmmmm.. play "Small World" over and over until he gives in maybe?

Ummm... nope, not exactly what I had in mind... that would cause my DH to put in ear plugs and wish we weren't going.... ;)

Ask Scott's daughter.

Guess what I did today? I went to the movies over a loooong lunch break (with my manager's blessings :cloud9:). Saw a grown-up movie that otherwise I wouldn't be able to see because tomorrow's a treatment day and then Ben starts on a week of half-days until school lets out next Friday. Bruscioloni is an old Sicilian dialect for bracciole Ellen is right on this impressive? We make it different from the Italian version by only putting the ingredients that we use in meatballs for stuffing in round steak. I'm teaching my girls how to do it tomorrow.
I hate the HEAT :sun:

As for that "T" I think he lost it at birth. Pogo do you have that T? Do't worry Bret is in denial about missing that T anyway...

They underestimate me b/c I seem sweet and quiet :plot: Working in MH people try to shock me or intimidate me so I'm used to saying anything and keep it family rated at Disney!.
Can't get one by you, bracciole and bruscioloni are variants of the same dish. Probably different regions. We don't use ground meat but it's stuffed round. My GGparents used an old Sicilian dialect.
Adult movie??? what's that? My last time at the show I saw Ratatouille. I guess I will go see Wall E. said thing is my baby is 23...

Poor Scott! How are you handling the news buddy? Remember we are here for you !

Good afternoon all... couldn't sleep again today, must be all this planning going on's got my brain on high alert... as much as I can't wait to make my ADR's and get stuff figured out, I'll be glad when that part's all done and I can settle in and wait for a few months!!

I had the same problem last night. Too much info on the brain.

But I do have to get back to work now. Sure was fun though!

What movie did you see??

As for that "T" I think he lost it at birth. Pogo do you have that T?
You mean his real name is PogoT?? :D

Hey all, just a quick zoop in to say hey and try to catch up as well as I can.

It was a busy day I had to take my 11 year old son and his dog to the vet for the final checkup before "he" becomes an "it" next month. Then I had to run DS and a buddy to Holiday World for the day. Then I had to help a guy tattoo some rabbits for the first time and just a dozen and one other things. My back is screaming about now so I think I will throw some popcorn in the microwave watch a little History Channel or the Sci-Fi network and then hit the hay!

See you all on Thursday!

Can I just go put little incredible masks on them and make them all look like raccoons?? they are so much cuter.

So you think raccoons are cute do you? Well obviously you weren't along on our camping trip to Kickapoo State Park in Illinois this past weekend when a coon stole a perfectly good flashlight off the picnic table when we were all sitting about 10 feet from it were you? Those were probably some of the bravest coons we have EVER run into!

By the way, if anyone sees a light in the woods in Kickapoo State Park make sure run, not walk, but run the other way because clearly the animals are getting smart enough to take over!

Why is their a such thing as summer jobs?

To make you appreciate going to school? :D:D Just a guess!

:sing:
Oh, a cowboy needs a horse, needs a horse, needs a horse
And he's gotta have a rope, have a rope, have a rope
And he oughta' have a song, have a song, have a song
If he wants to keep ridin'

Now a cowboy needs a hat, needs a hat, needs a hat
And a pair of fancy boots, fancy boots, fancy boots
And a set of shiny spurs, shiny spurs, shiny spurs
If he wants to keep ridin'

Oh, the fence is long, and the sun is hot
And the good Lord knows that a cowboy's gotta keep
Ridin', ridin' along

So he gets himself a horse, and a rope, and a song
And he finds himself a hat, fancy boots, shiny spurs
And there's nothing more he needs, or can have, or can get
If he wants to keep ridin', ridin' along

Spurs, shiny spurs
Boots, fancy boots
Sings a western song
Ro-oh-oh-ope
And a horse
If he wants to keep ridin', ridin' along...:sing:

See, the song don't say nuthin' bout no underdrawers for us cowboys does it? 'nuff said!!:D:D

Who can tell me what "pony up" refers to?

Actually I am going to be serious here a moment and say that for all my life "pony up" has been a term that means the same as "pay up." In old time westerns when the bad guy would come to collect on a loan he had made to the poor widow and the orphan children he would always say it was time to "pony up" Watch some old Tom Mix movies and you are bound to hear it sooner or later!

We left a jar of peanut butter out once when camping near Williamsburg and next morning there was a nice racoon armprint going to the bottom of the jar.

First time we went to FW in '76, we heard a rustling in the brush right next to the campsite and when we looked, it was an armored racoon.

Good morning JQ'ers, the coffee is on as well as the hot water for tea/hot chocolate. And of course your favorite cold beverage of choice. Juices and sodas. If I don't post in like 7 or 8 days that will because I'll be in NJ spending time with family.

Sandy, where is your question? :nono:

Yes, sir, another belly dance costume. I did the whole outfit in less then a week. I wanted an outfit for my class tomarrow night, since I have that solo performance.

Are you coming to watch?

Wish I could. Could you make sure there are some pictures posted of you in this event, please? ;)

Sorry you're feeling down! :pixie:

Bruscioloni is an old Sicilian dialect for bracciole Ellen is right on this impressive? We make it different from the Italian version by only putting the ingredients that we use in meatballs for stuffing in round steak. I'm teaching my girls how to do it tomorrow.
I grew up in a town called Massapequa (home town of Neil Diamond and the Baldwin brothers), but locally we called it Matzo-pizza. My next door neighbors were Sicilian also and I learned to cook quite a few things from my Nonna there, including "braciol."

What movie did you see??

Thanks, I don't reed too good ... I skip words. A little ADD so I have a habit of getting into several conversations at once b/c I can't keep my nose out of everyone's business. I can keep up with 16 conversations at once and that's just the one's in my head.
boy are you going to fit in well around ... wait, what was I talking about?

That's a HUGE lead time! Try "Mom, I need to bring cupcakes tomorrow" at 9:00 p.m.

My personal favorite is two days before it's due, "Mom, I have a book report due." (Particularly when you've asked about the progress in reading said book for weeks before.)
Ok, I could do with less of those kind of anecdotes.

Why is their a such thing as summer jobs if summers a time for relaxation or a break from school? because dry ice kills pink flamingos.

Thanks for the support, I really appreciate it. So when all's said and done, five overdraft fees  Mike actually talked to a lady in customer service yesterday who was very nice but there wasn't much she could do until today. He's going to try her again and see what she can do. He was at the bank minutes before 5:00 (he's receipt says 5:04) and standing in line, he said the girls were chatting, he didn't think much of it since he was depositing cash and we were told cash posts right away, so he waited. Little did we know that all deposits made after 5:00 don't go in untill midnight the NEXT day so we missed it by 4 minutes!! So frustrating. And all of this is because his boss waits until the last possible second to pay them (stalling)and then Mike has to run like crazy to the banks to try to get the deposit in. Oh well, there's not much you can do, just hope that they'll be kind to us (somehow I think not)

Blythe, what day were you trying for? Now I'm worried about calling tomorrow for 12/14. I hope I'm able to get it. When do the CPs get released?
I was trying for Friday, Dec. 12... but I've seen over on the dining thread that most of that whole week is gone already. Supposedly b/c they're saving certain times for the CP people... I would think they'd have to... and those seats are released for ressies on Monday, June 23. So you can bet I'll be calling at 7am!! Good luck to you! :fingers:

What's for lunch??

Just so you know, I thought of all my JQ buddies as I ate my ice cream last nite. And btw Deb...I thought of you especially on my drive home - I heard a commercial for Bonaroo. Why aren't you going? It sounds like fun! :rocker:

2. I am saving $$$$ to go to Disney in December.
3. Heat and I do not get along.
4. My husband is getting too old. :D

How's everyone doing today? I've missed you!

Can you believe my flights were delayed over 4 hours yesterday? We connected in Atlanta, and apparently due to some heavy storms everything going in and out of there was stalled. Our flight from Orlando was delayed an hour, and then our connection to Rochester was delayed 3 hours. We were supposed to land in Rochester at 11:40 pm, but we didn't get in until 2 a.m. Then we got to drive all the way back to Geneseo. Needless to say we were travelling a lot! But, we had an amazing time! I'll have trip reports coming as soon as I can get them up and we took lots of pictures and some video I can't wait to share.

And for the record, I only saw ONE dead possum on the side of the road. And it was a :bar: I had for Pogo!

Oh boy.... a coon stole your flashlight ????

It sure did. And to make matters worse it was a brand new LED Flashlight. We only spent a few dollars for it but it was really nice because it was very small and yet put out a tremendous amount of light. There is a chain of farm stores in Indiana, Illinois, and, I think, Kentucky called Rural King and that is where we purchased it.

What are you doing to your son at the vet's office?

Could y'all tell I was tired when I wrote that last night? Normally I catch slip ups like that before I post them. And yes, it is the dog and not the son that is going to go from a he to an it. All though, now that y'all have mentioned it I do have a 23 year old daughter and a 19 year old son who we had the normal teenage struggles with so maybe if we did do this to the 11 year old maybe the teen years would be far less angst ridden. . . hmmmmmmmmm maybe we have hit on something here! Anyone ever tried this?:D:D

Who is missing a sock?

That would be anyone who has ever done laundry wouldn't it?

You admit that you go to a place called Kickapoo??? Seriously?

So haven't you ever heard of Kickapoo Joy Juice? It has to come from some place doesn't it?:D:D

Seriously though this is the first time we have ever been to this, or any other Illinois State Park, and it was actually a nice experience! And the name Kickapoo comes from a tribe of Indians that used to inhabit the area.

OK, we now return you to your regularly scheduled thread!

So, I think I am caught up now. If I missed something Important to you I apologize but since y'all have been such chatty Cathy's since last night I had a lot of catching up to do!

The possum was actually on Universal Drive, I saw him laying with his little legs sticking up by the side of the road when our bus drove by. I instantly started laughing! The Atlanta airport was a zoo when we landed and it seemed like nobody knew what was going on. If I can avoid it, I won't connect there again.

I think you'll be fine... I think we're up against the DVC population that seems to like the first two weeks of December best to use their points, Pop Warner & MouseFest. Honestly, though, my only difficulties were LeCellier b/c of the CP and LTT b/c of MVMCP -- the rest were easy. So, no -- no bread & water... that wouldn't be romantic enough...

Are you sure the possum was really dead? After all, there is a reason for the term "playing possum!"

We always do everything in our power to avoid the Atlanta zoo. . . er, I mean airport when we fly. Coming out of the Midwest many of the airlines do connect through Atlanta so if that is our only choice we have normally paid the higher price to fly direct just to avoid Atlanta.

Glad to hear that this looks like it is going to work out in your favor!

Did anyone else hear of the four Boy Scouts in Iowa that were killed by a tornado yesterday? Apparently they had taken cover in a particular building as they were instructed to do and then the tornado hit the building directly toppling a fireplace over on to the kids. I can't even begin to imagine how terrible that has to be for everyone involved! My prayers go out to everyone involved!

Jym, how's Rachel feeling?

How's everyone's day starting?
Rachel has been told to stay in bed 'til Monday. Her amniotic fluid is low and the baby is a little small. (Blythe, 5.1 fluid and 24 percentile weight. I'm pushing PO fluids and restricting her ADLs to basically nothing. We're going to see the doctor on Monday and get a new U/S and BPP. Any advice?)

30 weeks
She hasn't been dehydrated and there hasn't been any obvious loss of fluids though there's some swelling. Today's BPP was ok. Really, just the AFI is down. The tone, movement, & breathing movements were all good. FAD was ok. I'd put today's BPP at 8 or so.
She's asleep now. How long have I been up? Looks like 30 hours. I think I'll take a little nap.

Wow Sarah, it does make you wonder, at least she could have called and said she wasn't coming.

Eek, I get to make my ADRs for December tomorrow, will be calling bright and early at 7am. We have some good Signature dinners that I really want to get this trip. We are on the Deluxe Dining Plan.

Not that I'm happy about your troublesome tummy, but I also came to that conclusion in February. At least I know that I'm not alone. So now I'm way more careful in my choices and in resisting the urge to overindulge.

As for laughing at the possibly dead possum, I'm going to have to send you some good karma, girl, because you just might attract some bad karma with your mirth. What you're supposed to do when you see a dead possum, is to start sending a text message to Jym asking for recipes. ;)

I think I came to that same conclusion in October, too... of course, I'd also been seriously watching what I ate before the trip, and arriving and diving right into a full-course meal at Fulton's, margaritas at DTD and all the other stuff... did not sit well at all!! So I've come to one rock solid conclusion - no dieting before we go to WDW!!!

(Nana Maskouri too but that's a whole nother trauma)When I was a little kid -- I saw the Bee Gees (twice!), Neil Diamond, Don MacLean (American Pie) and the :ack: Beach Boys. I tell ya....I knew how to live it up back in the day! When I started footing the bill, I got to see more contemporary acts.... I couldn't imagine doing it now!!!

Rhonda, how's your project coming along?

Still way too much to do and way too little time!

Rhonda, are you almost finished?

No! :fresh: I seriously am not sure that I'll ever finish!

And who didn't read the boldface question in the middle of the quoted part?

Are you sure you didn't sneak back in and put it in later?

I have to figure out a slow and easy pace, trying to figure out how to make the trip so magical that he will be forever converted into a Disney freak! Any suggestions?

My best advice is to tailor to the trip to his likes. If it's food, concentrate on dining. If it's relaxation, build in some swimming/nap time.

!. I am taking care of my grandson.
2. I am saving $$$$ to go to Disney in December.
3. Heat and I do not get along.
4. My husband is getting too old. :D

5. You are busy forgetting your question. :nono: ;)

How's everyone doing today? I've missed you!

Welcome back Nikki! Glad you had fun, but sorry you had such a long trip home!

Hey gang, crazy day trying to get things wrapped up, so if I don't get back here, have a good next week, I'll see ya'll when I get back.

The Chamber shindig was kind of...meh, this year. Maybe because neither DD nor DW were there with me. I did have a nice-looking blond sit down and talk to me. Turned out she was one of the Cabaret girls when I played the MC in the play "Cabaret" here around '92. She was still in high school then. I was already 42. Sigh. I probably reminded her of her granddaddy. On the upside--she's a real estate agent now and may start sending some work my way.

Guess I better get to bed and rest up for FRIDAY!!

Good for you - your ressies look great! You're trying some spots we'd like to get to someday.

Got some fresh coffee on the counter... what time did you call? I just got off the phone w/ them (had to reserve Portobello Yacht Club at the 180-day mark exactly...) and once again, no being on hold. I was shocked!!

So - what do you guys who've eaten at the Cape May Cafe think of it? I've read some not-so-great reviews of it lately, and am wondering if we should change our ressie to somewhere like Boma, and just head over the the BC for Beaches & Cream at lunch. I have a funny story about Neil Diamond, the Monkees, and the creativity and innocence of youth. Remind me to tell you it in December. Of course, it will date me even more than I already am
I loved the Monkees. My dd tried to get us tickets for 3 Dog Night yesterday. She was upset b/c they were sold out but I told her we can do another old band soon. We saw Herman's Hermits. My kids love the oldies and are all old enough to go to the casinos !!

And the poor kid gets so traumatized that he grows up to be another Hannibal Lecter. Well, Beth, just think of it as her contributing to keeping you in business.
Yep, that's how they are made. Trust me there is more business than we (we that's me and my friends )can handle. Unfortunately there isn't enough $$ to pay for the visits.

Hardly! And tell them that payback is wonderful thing!
Thanks, to them it's like this sacred ground.

Of course, and I'll even send you all kinds of fun stuff. And be sure to tell them that you only know how to chisel on stone.

That reminds me of this older lady that I met. She asked me if I remembered when Huey Long was governor???? I wonder if she remembers Moses? Do I look that bad?

Today was Ben's last full day of school. He'll have half-days until closing chapel next Friday. And then, do you know what time it will be?
wow! our kids have been out a month. But they go back on Aug 4th.
Where did the cosmo part go??? My first cosmo was at Carmine's in NYC :D for my bd.
Yes, I don't have my speakers plugged in. I moved my computer to the kitchen table to work on scrapbooks w/ Angel and I haven't moved it back. I figured since it was temporary I wouldn't bother w/ the speakers.

Who else is guilty of not listening to all the prompts when you call WDW-DINE?

I don't even wait for them to say press 1 to make a new reservation 2 for something else 3 for dining. Bingo I'm there already. Then of course they have to ask how many times you have visited, again I enter before they even finish. Guilty as charge.
Too ADD here to listen to that. I hate going through DVC too.

It's a sad day. I don't think we need to change the name. We found out that Pogo isn't the guy we thought he was and we aren't changing his name :thedolls:

I've been busy writing my state reps. They are trying to pass a 300% pay raise w/ a 138 per diem. One rep said that we can't attract the best and the brightest to the positions at the low pay and someone responded... So can we expect your resignation? Does anyone think that's ridiculous?
???? I am having computer problems. I have about6 or 7 USB ports but now when I plug in something 2 ports stop working:confused: Is it a power thing? I have a lot plugged in, my wireless, scanner, card reader, one for my jump drive and mouse. Is that unreasonable?

I've been up and down both coasts through the west and NE,even Michigan, but never to anything in Mid America north of Arkansas (couldn't find any possums) Teasing of course, so what's it like??? Thick forests?

It all depends on where you go. Here in the southern part of Indiana you find a lot of hill country with a reasonable amount of forest left. However by the time you get up to the central and northern part of the state you get VERY flat land with very few trees left. OK, time for the geology lesson. The northern parts of Indiana, Illinois, Ohio and many points north were covered by glaciers during the last ice age and so were scraped flat. When the glaciers scraped the northern areas flat it pushed all of that material to the south and created our hills. And as for the trees, that is a product of both the glaciers and of man. The glaciers created flat land with very rich soil that was discovered by the Europeans when they came here so they cut down all the trees to farm the land. Since the land in the southern part of the state was not as good for farming the trees were either not cut at all or in most cases were cut but allowed to re-grow thus creating large areas of forested land. Now, after all that Kickapoo State Park is actually in the central part of Illinois so you would expect flat land with no trees. However, that was the original home of strip mining for coal in this country which means the spoil piles and stripper pits were left behind to reforest and grow fish!

OK, end of the science lesson!

And the poor kid gets so traumatized that he grows up to be another Hannibal Lecter. Well, Beth, just think of it as her contributing to keeping you in business.

And you have something against my buddy Hannibal why??:D:D Actually, maybe that explains why I am so screwed up, my parents used to say things like that to me all the time! In fact, they still do!:D

You know, one of the problems I always have with reading about other people's opinions of things like restaurants is that I so often have completely different views of the same thing. I always suggest that everyone try places for themselves and then decide if they like it or not. I know that I have often ended up liking restaurants, movies, and all kinds of other things that others had not liked.

Isn't weather amazing?

Out west they are dying for more water and here in the Midwest we have more than we know what to do with! I think I mentioned in a post earlier this week that even though we dodged the heavy rains that flooded the central part of Indiana over the weekend that all that water was making its way to my part of the state.

Well, it is here now! I live in the south-central part of a county that goes by the name of Dubois (pronounced Do-boys. And remember this is a family site so no comments about what that pronunciation brings to mind. Also, even though the county was named after a French soldier the population of the county is actually mostly German - go figure.)

Anyway, the White River that runs through the middle part of the state forms the northern boundary of Dubois County. As of this morning the White River is about 20 feet above flood stage and is not expected to crest until late next week at somewhere around 70 feet above flood stage!!! That is about 40 feet higher than the previous recorded high crest! I can't begin to imagine how much flooding we will have once it hits its crest!

While I live where we would have to have a flood on the scale of the one Moses saw before my house would be directly impacted it does wreak havoc on our ability to get around. Since the White River is the largest one in the area all the smaller rivers and streams dump into the White. Since the White is already above flood stage the other rivers have no place to go which means they back up as well. The result is that there are already many roads closed and we will have many more closed before it is done!

OH, and did I mention that it is raining here today and we are expected to get 3-6 inches of rain before it stops late tonight or tomorrow morning? I wonder where all that water is going to go?

Actually if it were January I would love it!! It seems we are always just a degree or two to warm to get much snow in the winter! What we normally get is ice which is much more of a problem than snow! And you know, just once or twice in each winter it would be great to have a good snow! OK, I know I am the odd one when it comes to snow but I love having some.

OH, I just remembered a question I was going to ask earlier when I read the posts about when kids start and end their school year.

1. When do your students start and end school?
(Here in Indiana our schools generally start in mid August and generally get out the week before Memorial Day in May. There are always exceptions but this is the general rule)

2. How many school days does your state require?
(Here in Indiana our schools are required to go 180 days. If they have to cancel school for any reason they have to make up those days at some other time of year.)

1. When do your students start and end school?
(Here in Indiana our schools generally start in mid August and generally get out the week before Memorial Day in May. There are always exceptions but this is the general rule)

Here in Ontario, School starts the Tuesday after Labour Day and ends on the last Thursday in June.

2. How many school days does your state require?
(Here in Indiana our schools are required to go 180 days. If they have to cancel school for any reason they have to make up those days at some other time of year.)

Ontario requires 188 days (94 for Kindergarten)

There are also modified calendars at some school in our region -- where kids go for a few weeks then get a couple of weeks off -- then go for a few more weeks then get a couple more weeks off ..... Sounds more like the English system.... Speaking of which --- Anyone seen Mikki around??

OH, and did I mention that it is raining here today and we are expected to get 3-6 inches of rain before it stops late tonight or tomorrow morning? I wonder where all that water is going to go?
I can tell you where the water goes and what it looks like when it gets here after everyone has benefited from it. :ack:

Ain't cha glad it ain't snow, Brother?? :whew:

Schools here require 180 days. We have a couple extra thrown in for hurricanes or other disasters. Snow?? :rotfl: once in a blue moon or less.
They start the 1st week of Aug. I think many of the universities start mid - around the 20th of Aug. My dd starts mid Aug but I've already been :spend: She needs a rabies shot $450.00 I keep asking her to just pick one up from work. I just get

Wow! My girls aren't done 'til the 26th... they have half-days the 24-26, but are completely done after that. They go back the Wed. after Labor Day -- this year, L Day is so early I think they're back Sept. 3rd or something! So, we lose a week of "summer", but then again, it's one less week I have to work on less sleep! We'll just pack all our fun into the other 65 days!! (wow... doesn't seem very long when you do it that way... )
I don't have any more babies but it sure helps the morning commute! I used to love the routine of school too.

Why do you think I'm not getting anything done today???

Yeah for you! That's some magic you had going for you!! I was told to call back at the 180-day mark for LeCellier, which is Sunday, and then if that doesn't work, wait 'til the CP packages are released. So, I'll be on the phone early from work Sunday morning... wish me luck!! :fingers:

I will keep my fingers, knees, and toes crossed for you!!

How is everyone's afternoon going? I'm eating lunch right now and then we have a crazy afternoon or like 11 patients plus I have another interview!! Who decided we should be so busy on a Friday afternoon???

Well, I'll try to check in later, take care all

OH, I just remembered a question I was going to ask earlier when I read the posts about when kids start and end their school year.

1. When do your students start and end school?
(Here in Indiana our schools generally start in mid August and generally get out the week before Memorial Day in May. There are always exceptions but this is the general rule)

2. How many school days does your state require?
(Here in Indiana our schools are required to go 180 days. If they have to cancel school for any reason they have to make up those days at some other time of year.)

I don't have any real reason to ask other than I am just curious.

In NY state the public schools are required 180 days of school. Most districts will schedule 185 days to account for snow days, and if none of the snow days are used vacations will usually be extended by a day or two. We start after Labor Day and end anywhere between June 24 and 26. Elementary and middle schools go longer than high schools because the Regents exams take about a week and a half to administer. When I was a senior I didn't take any Regents in June, so it was like I got out a week earlier!

I never knew you were from Indiana. Or maybe I did and don't remember. But, my sister is moving to Bloomington for grad school at the end of August. Are you near there?

All of your comments about interviewing reminds me of exactly why I am glad to be out of the Human Resource business! I especially had to laugh about your comments wondering why people would go to the trouble of applying, setting up an appointment for an interview and then not showing up. That reminded me of the many times that happened at one of my employers in particular.

This was sometime in the late 90's and early 2000's. During that time this employer grew from about 600 employees to about 1600 employees in a little over a year. While some of these employees were office staff the biggest part of them were production employees. I was the one and only person responsible for doing ALL of the interviewing and hiring of all those people.

Anyway, even for the production employees the application process was lengthy and tough to make it through before you were selected to be interviewed. All applicants regardless of the position they were applying for had to go through a personality profile test, a math test, a visual acuity test, a mechanical concepts test, fill out a paper application, watch a video about the company and what we expected of them as an employee and give us their left arm! (OK, the left arm thing is stretching things just a bit we really just asked for their right ring finger!:D:D)

But in all seriousness all of the paperwork and tests would take most applicants at least 4 hours to get through and that still didn't mean we would call them for an interview. Plus, this employer did pay their production help a VERY good wage, plus they had really TREMENDOUS benefits for all employees.(This was laid out three times, once at the beginning, middle, and end of the video they watched during the application process so there is little chance they would walk out without knowing about these things.) For production workers this was the employer with the best pay and benefits in at least a 40 mile radius.

So you would think that after having invested 4-5 hours in filling out applications and tests and knowing what a good employer this place was that it would be an automatic thing to show up for the interview right? But even after all that we would still have people that wouldn't show up for interviews!

While it never failed to amaze me that people wouldn't show up for interviews the thing that surprised me even more was the people who wouldn't show up for their first day of work. You read that correctly, If a person was offered a production job at that company they would have gone through about 4-5 hours of testing and application, another 3-4 hours of interviews with various people, been shown where they were going to work and had the chance to meet some of the people they were going to work with, go through the drug screen, been offered and accepted a job and given a start date. Then after all that they still didn't show up to start to work.

Bottom line is these people would have about 8 hours tied up in trying to get a job with this company and then they still didn't show up to start to work. And when we called to find out why they didn't show most of them couldn't give us an answer as to why! Can you imagine? Again, remember that for most of these people going to work for this company meant making more money than ever before and having the best benefits they had ever had! Plus they got to work in an air-conditioned factory! And no, the work wasn't that particularly back-breaking or nasty. It did however require our factory workers to use their brains as well as their brawn!

Granted we were hiring people by the boatload at that time but still it happened almost every week! In fact, one of the ladies in the benefits department was a friend of mine who I had known since high school and on Fridays she and I would get together and "bet" on how many new hires would no-show on Monday!

From my driveway to the parking lot of Indiana University's basketball shrine, also known as Assembly Hall, it is almost exactly 70 miles or about 1.5 hours, depending on traffic. So yes I would say it is reasonably close. So what area is her grad work going to be in and was I correct in assuming that it was IU that she would be attending?

2. How many school days does your state require?

Our girls start the Wednesday after Labor Day, and get out somewhere b/w the 24th and 26th of June.
I believe NYS requires 180 days of school... not sure how many snow days that allows us before the school year gets extended, though! Luckily, hasn't happened, yet... ;)

Try to be good while I prioritise myself! :D
Have you forgotten who you're talking to???? :D

Have a good weekend, and don't work too hard!!

Okay, gotta run -- DD9 wants the computer and then she's off for a sleepover b'day party... which means DD6 gets daddy all to herself, and a trip out for ice cream. :) Me?? I get to go to work.... :(

I can't imagine having to do this all day, everyday. Some people are so strange, you wonder what they were thinking when they applied/interviewed for the position. The girl yesterday was not personable at all, I thought, you are going to be working the front desk and you can barely talk to me?? The ladies here thought it might have something to do with unemployment and having to at least make an "effort" to get a new job. I thought those people had to go a little farthen then just sending over a resume and then making an interview appt they don't intend on keeping but maybe that's not the case anymore.

SO, three more patients and we're out of here for the weekend!!

I'm going home to make some Canadian cheddar cheese soup for dinner, anyone want any?

In NYC we start the Tuesday after Labor Day, and end the 3rd to last weekday in June. This year it's the 26th (Fri-27 and Mon-30 are the last two weekdays in June). Last year, we ended on a Wednesday. Next year we end on a Friday. So bizarre, don't you think?

Blythe, here's a :marg: for getting the answer right!

So did anyone have any unusual things happen to them today? I got stuck in our building elevator today... rode up and down a few times from the basement to the sixth floor. Finally I got it to stop on 6 and walked back down to one! Thought I might end up spending the morning there.

Rhonda, even though my site went to testing, there's still so much to do! I'm also beginning to feel like this is the project that will never really get finished. I really could use a visit with my friend Rita :marg: but the old bod' wouldn't like it.

So, Jym, did you get lamb? And rent any good movies for her?

Well, I'm off to play Toontown with Ben.

Have a great evening, everyone!

Yeah! That's great airfare, esp. coming from the other side of the country!!

Here's some :pixie: for you LeCellier ressie tomorrow...

Blythe, here's a :marg: for getting the answer right!

Thanks! I'll have to save it for when I get up... no, that's not right... ... guess I'll have to save it for Monday night, when I'm off... ;)

So, I changed our Spoodles ADR back to the original plan, which was Boma... Dan wanted to check out the Boardwalk area, which was why we chose Spoodles at the last minute... but after all the rave reviews, I just had to change it back, and we'll just go to the BW afterwards. :D

So, what's everyone up to this Friday night? I hope you're all relaxing and enjoying a quiet and/or fun night... Julia called from her sleep-over just to say goodnight, and Dan said she called him, too... it's so cute at this age -- the desire to go off on their own, wave us off and have a good time -- but then the desire to call and check in and hear, "I love you, have fun, sleep tight..." :cloud9:

I'll try to check in again later, in case any of you are still up!!

Good for you - your ressies look great! You're trying some spots we'd like to get to someday.

So - what do you guys who've eaten at the Cape May Cafe think of it? I've read some not-so-great reviews of it lately, and am wondering if we should change our ressie to somewhere like Boma, and just head over the the BC for Beaches & Cream at lunch. We'd like to go there to see their Christmas displays, and just to check the hotel out... but the seafood buffet sounded so good, we thought we'd try it. Now I'm doubting our choice.... anyone??

We sort of lucked out this trip, we got the mailer for 30% off so we decided to go for the Deluxe Dining plan with what we saved with the mailer.

We did dinner at Cape May & I really enjoyed it. Good food and good friends.

It's a sad day. I don't think we need to change the name. We found out that Pogo isn't the guy we thought he was and we aren't changing his name

:funny:

So, I was up at 4:50 am local time to make my ADR for Le Cellier :coffee: BUT it was all good because I got one for dinner on 12/14!! WOO HOO!!

30 weeks
She hasn't been dehydrated and there hasn't been any obvious loss of fluids though there's some swelling.
30 weeks....lets see, with my first one I went into labor at 30 weeks, and was on bedrest for 6 weeks before she wouldn't wait anymore (she always HAS been impatient!). With the youngest, at 30 weeks I had major abdominal surgery, which I would NOT recommend!! The good news? They are all fine (note - I was going to say "perfect", but....:D) . Jym - take good care of Rachel (and yourself), I'm sure things will be just fine. :)

Not really, as I'm sleeping my way through most of the "fun hours"... but Dan will (hopefully, weather permitting) get a round of golf in tomorrow afternoon, and Sunday we're celebrating Father's Day when I get up with presents, steak & corn on the grill, salt potatoes and smores over the fire. 12/11 50s Prime Time (lunch)

What time? We're doing lunch there that day too! Our ressie is at 11:50am.

Conspiracies?? What would ever make you think that? I took some time out today to go and play at my new tennis club as they were having their annual ladies double tournament. You draw partners out of a hat and then all couples play each other and the best two play a final. Well the standard was not bad at all but my partner and I remained undefeated so are the new champions! The trophy is sitting in our living room now. You won't tell Pogo, will you? :secret: I was going to keep quiet about tennis but I just had to share this! :D

Who is Virginia Maden and Monique Coleman?

From IMDB: Mini Biography
One of the hottest stars of the mid-1980s, Virginia Madsen is one of Hollywood's most talented actresses. Voted as one of the most beautiful actresses in 1986, Virginia has had several excellent performances in her career thus far. Audiences first caught a glimpse of her as Princess Irulan in the 1984 science fiction epic Dune (1984). She followed that up with Electric Dreams (1984); however, it was in 1986 that Virginia captured the hearts of the audience with an intense portrayal of a Catholic school girl who fell in love with a boy from a prison camp in Duncan Gibbins' Fire with Fire (1986). Virginia played the role of Lisa and her co-star was Craig Sheffer, who played Lisa's love interest, Joe Fisk. Kari Wuhrer also made an appearance as Virginia's best friend, Gloria. Fire with Fire (1986) was a low budget production, starring a bunch of fresh faces who were till then unknown to Hollywood. However, the movie was a success and elevated its three young stars overnight. Virginia has never looked back since.

With 35 releases since Fire with Fire (1986) thus far, Virginia is a busy actress and has played a variety of roles which further enhance her reputation as a fantastic actress who can adapt to any kind of role. Virginia belongs to an acting family -- with her brother Michael Madsen, also an actor, and her mother, Elaine Madsen, an Emmy-winning writer and producer. She is still one of the Hollywood's most beautiful and captivating actresses today.

Does that answer your question? I sort of remember her, but not really. Sorry but she'd be better than the High School Musical gal, she was born the year I graduated High School. Am I that old?

It's a million times better then Buzz Lightyear! It will blow your mind. Make sure you can get to the park as early as possible or get a fastpass as soon as you get there. The park will be crowded and the line will be out the door! But, it's worth it!

Zooping in to wish all our JQ father's a happy father's day! May your days be magical!

I called Disney Dining today and got everything we wanted with NO problems.. they had tons of time slots open for all our choices so I'm looking at that as a good sign that the week will not be that crowded! Trying some new places. Since DH loves Goofy I chose the character breakfast at Cape May - anyone do that one? Also got a 7:30 seating at Rose & Crown.. hoping to get to see Iluminations while eating.. do you think that's a good time? Or should we have gone later?

You guys are the best! I'm beginning to feel a little bit better today (at least I could finally eat again without wanting to :ack:... sorry for the TMI). I ended up with a fever yesterday and was really upset because only 0.3 degrees more and I would have landed in the hospital! And that's the very LAST thing I want to happen! :(

Zoop.

DW and I took the kids back to their mother in Raleigh yesterday, had a birthday dinner with the now-10 year old, and came home. Earlier this afternoon, we did some room rearranging (including the piano, ugh) and now we're kind of vegging.

Most of the funeral took place Friday, but SIL stayed up there and sent DD on the ten-hour round trip to pick up the kids. They're having a military funeral at Quantico tomorrow, and he wanted the kids to be there (but apparantly not enough to make the trip himself). Can you tell we're a little peeved at him? As always, he's turning it into a pity-fest for himself. He wasn't really all that close to his stepfather to begin with.

Afternoon all, seems like I've missed so much. I've been laying on an ice pack since yesterday. :( I hurt my shoulder at the mobile adoption yesterday. I bent down to pick up a dog to put her back in the kennel, well when I stood up with her the kennel door had swung closed and slammed into my left shoulder. I had to go walk around some because I was in pain and  Oh well, it feels a little better today, I can use my arm, just if you touch the skin there, I jump...still a little tender!

What's everyone doing for Father's Day today? We're headed up to my parents for dinner. My mom won't come to my house because of my dogs  and no she's not allegic. So anyways, we are going to their house.

Just wanted to check in, I'll try to stop by later, have a good day all

It's the "Q" word here tonight, so I'll have to find lots to do to keep me busy for the next 11 hours.... wow, seems like a long time all of a sudden...

"Q" is good, huh? Unless it stands for Quazy! :D Hope it stays quiet for you tonight.

Busy, but relaxing weekend. We finally started our wine this afternoon. If all goes well, we will bottle it in about 2 months.
Just getting ready to throw some burgers on the grill (why don't we have a grilling smiley?). Isn't it amazing how much better a simple burger can be when it is made on an outdoor grill? :D

Jym - how is Rachel doing? How are you enjoying your Father-to-be Day?

Sarah, here's some :pixie: for that shoulder! Don't you hate when things like that happen?!? Would a :marg: help too?

Thanks for the thoughts Ellen, I sure appreciate it!! And yes, a :marg: would help, but I'm sure with the pain med I took last night, would be ill advised! Things seem a little better, doesn't hurt so much to use my arm but boy the skin is sensitive to the touch, gonna be quite a bruise!

:hi: I'm in a little funk today although I'm not sure why. :( I think I'm just exhausted from work, and feeling guilty that I'm not working at present (I haven't done any work for over 24 hours now).

Sorry you're in a funk Rhonda  You need to not work so hard. I know that's an easy thing to say. Hope your swim helped clear your head some.

Father's Day was nice. Went up to my parents and had dinner with them. Then we talked some about our upcoming WDW trip in Sept and that put me in a much better mood!!

I can't imagine anyone's ready for Monday, anyone? I know I'm not, but the quicker it gets here the quicker it's over!

 to all, talk to you tomorrow

Can I get in? My friends and I love playing Spades! Do you play it Deuces high? It always confuses me that the 2 of diamonds is considered a spade by those rules.!
No, deuces are deuces. You're invited to come play anytime, how's Thursday?

I've actually never played spades! How do you play? Is it like Go Fish?
Aren't you cute.
It's probably on your computer in the games folder.

Since DH loves Goofy I chose the character breakfast at Cape May - anyone do that one?We really enjoyed the Cape May Breakfast. Last time we were there, Goofy spent some time drawing pictures of himself and the boys....they were funny, but we couldn't keep them because they got ketchuped and orangejuiced. I'm sure you'll love it!

You guys are the best! I'm beginning to feel a little bit better today (at least I could finally eat again without wanting to :ack:... sorry for the TMI). I ended up with a fever yesterday and was really upset because only 0.3 degrees more and I would have landed in the hospital!:pixie: for a full back to your regular selfness really soon! Maybe you should go to the doctor anyway????

DW and I took the kids back to their mother in Raleigh yesterday, had a birthday dinner with the now-10 year old, and came home. That's such a milestone. Happy Birthday to your Grandyoungun!

I bent down to pick up a dog to put her back in the kennel, well when I stood up with her the kennel door had swung closed and slammed into my left shoulder. Yikes! Take some Advil. Do you have any advice for us? Our Tate keeps eating the metal fasteners that hold the crate together...and then he rams his head out .... it's horrible and we are at a loss with him.

Good morning and

Happy Monday Cousin! It is a beautiful day here -- after a whole weekend full of EXTREME Thunderstorms.

Our nephew was Baptized yesterday, so we went to that before heading over to my sister's house for Father's Day dinner. It was a busy day, but I didn't cook a thing! Isn't every day Father's Day? :thedolls:

I need to know though... what is Spades? I know Hearts and Bridge and Euchre and Canasta and Rummy ..... (I worked at a banquet hall -- it was requisite for breaktime!)

What does everyone else have planned this fine day? Mondays are always crazy at my office, I guess everyone gets sick over the weekend and decides they need to see their doctor on Monday!

Morning all! Hope everyone enjoyed their weekend!

Di, the Cape May breakfast is a great choice if you like Goofy! He took a lot of time with us this past February and was quite his Goofy self! Feels good to see a trip pull togehter, huh? Are you going to be there during the Food & Wine Festival?

You guys are the best! I'm beginning to feel a little bit better today (at least I could finally eat again without wanting to ... sorry for the TMI). I ended up with a fever yesterday and was really upset because only 0.3 degrees more and I would have landed in the hospital! And that's the very LAST thing I want to happen!
Being there, doing that! My Mom (84) has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's and it's a real challenge at times. I'm afraid I don't have as much patience with her as I should.

Dh is the one that likes Goofy and since one of the purposes of this trip is to convert Dh into a Disney nut I thought this would be a good choice! Our arrival day is the last day of the food and wine festival. I had thought about Epcot for that day.. but I don't know.. at this point we are planning Magic Kingdom.. but since I made no Adrs for that day we could switch it up and do Epcot... we may even hop between the two parks that day...

Sorry to hear about your fever.. is it down to normal now? And I'm sorry to hear about your mom... it sounds like you need a hug  hope that helps! You are always in my prayers!

 A hug for you Ken.. sorry you're having to deal with this. Hope things improve!

Afternoon all, seems like I've missed so much. I've been laying on an ice pack since yesterday. I hurt my shoulder at the mobile adoption yesterday.

Hope your arm/shoulder feel better really quick!

I'm in a little funk today although I'm not sure why. I think I'm just exhausted from work, and feeling guilty that I'm not working at present (I haven't done any work for over 24 hours now).

I think I'll go clean the pool and take a swim. Anyone want to join me?

Sorry you've been in a funk.. here's a  for you! Hope you had fun swimming! Maybe I can join you next time?

Had kind of a grandfather's day fix all last week. DD1 called today and wished me a happy father's day and told me to come down for a free banana split at the ice cream shop she manages. :) It was good.

YUM! A FREE banana split on Father's day! You can't ask for a better present than that! Was it a two scooper or a three scooper? And why didn't you share it with us?

Bless her heart, with all the funeral confusion, she didn't have much of a birthday, but DD will make it up to her later.
I need to know though... what is Spades? I know Hearts and Bridge and Euchre and Canasta and Rummy ..... (I worked at a banquet hall -- it was requisite for breaktime!)
It's been so long that I don't even remember how to play any more, but when I was in high school and early college, we used to play spades a ton.

Forgot to tell you guys..Scott called me yesterday from Hollywood Studios. He called to tell me that his wonderful daughter got me a picture of Prince Caspian! THey are having a great time. Weather has been great. They were lining up and claiming their spot for the Block Party Bash when he called. They rode the Toy Story Mania and LOVED it! Yikes! Take some Advil. Do you have any advice for us? Our Tate keeps eating the metal fasteners that hold the crate together...and then he rams his head out .... it's horrible and we are at a loss with him.

So I assume that Tate is a puppy? How old, and what breed? First all, his crate is of adequate size, correct? (he can stand up, turn around, lay down etc). This sounds like a severe case of separation anxiety. The sad part of it is they will destroy everything and injure themselves they are so distraught. Does he have chewy bones/toys in the cage with him? My suggestion would first be EXERCISE!! Tire him out before he goes in the cage so he doesn't have a lot of extra energy once you leave. The only other thing is to shorten the time that you are gone and reward him for being a good boy when you are "gone" (even out of the room) for short intervals. Once he learns that you won't leave him forever (this time will lengthen out the older he gets) and that you always come back, AND when you come back he gets a cookie for being a good boy things should get better. Separation anxiety is one of the hardest behaviors to work through but let me know how I can help! :puppy:

Hope your arm/shoulder feel better really quick!

Thanks for the thoughts, and you're right, a lot of people are "sick" over the weekend so they don't have to go back to work. It's sad but I can't believe how busy the phones are on Monday morning like everyone's world just came crashing down over the weekend.

Hope everyone is having a great monday!! I'm hanging in there, shoulder isn't too bad so far!! Take care, I'll check in later. Oh and btw, I found a $238 airfare on Delta. I haven't booked it yet as I would love to get a Southwest nonstop flight, but not sure when their December schedule comes out, but if I get too desperate we'll just book Delta and change planes in Atlanta!! I am SOOOO excited to see you all in December!!

I need to know though... what is Spades?

You may also want to take a look at the kind of crate you are using. We used to have a white lab that was the original escape artist by chewing the fasteners off her crate and then using her paws and nose to work the resulting gap until she could get out. We then switched to a heavy duty plastic crate with a completely different style of design. This one was made in two pieces, a top and a bottom. The two pieces met exactly half way up and had a lip at the joint that projected to the outside of the crate. There were then a series of holes all the way around that lip where you slipped the bolts through and secured them with wing nuts. The good part of the design is that there was nothing for the dog to get hold of and work to their advantage. The plastic was also nice because it cleaned easily and didn't rust.

As for spades, do you have all day? We play a lot of spades when we camp but I have come to find that there are a lot of different "house" rules that can make it confusing when you are first learning unless you play with the same people all the time. Basically Spades trump any other suit and within the spades power follows the normal order of deuce through Ace. You must follow suit with the card that was led if you have one of those cards otherwise you can chose to throw an off card or throw a spade to trump the other three cards that were thrown in the suit that was led. 500 points wins, you play as partners so when you bid the bids of the two partners are added to gather to determine the total bid. Anyway, that is just a VERY basic rundown of spades are played. We REALLY enjoy the game but please remember I have ONLY given you the most basic outline of how to play and as I said earlier there are a ton of "house" rules that different people play by.

A hug for you Ken.. sorry you're having to deal with this. Hope things improve!

Hope your arm/shoulder feel better really quick!

Here is some :pixie: and  for everyone who need them.

The business of tracking Mondays and Fridays off is actually much more common than you may realize. The Society for Human Resources has done many studies over the years and Mondays and Fridays are by far the most abused days for unplanned absences. As a result there are many employers who while they may not have a specific disciplinary program for such days still track them and will certainly talk to the employee who abuse those days.

We have already reinforced the slide handle closure, but he removes the central fasteners, holding the vertical and horizontal bars together, then he pries the vertical bars apart. He's strong and smart.

Sarah, Tate is almost 2 and he is a tall Brittany. He was perfectly fine in his crate until about 2 weeks ago, but we can't place an incident that occurred to make things upsetting to him. He is afraid of thunder etc (and the phone) which is funny for a gun-dog, but we can work with that. Unfortunately, there have been so many Thunderstorms through our part of the world over the past couple of weeks, the poor guy's a mess! I put the radio on to a talk radio station for him today, hoping the constant talking would comfort him if there is another storm. If I could wrangle it, I would take him to daycare, but it just isn't logistically feasible. I should add that last night's craziness was during a 2 1/2 hour absence -- so not even a long one. I just don't want him to get hurt.

I think we might look into a Jasper crate.

Jennifer, you might try that kind of crate. Also, you might want to cover it so he feels somewhat safe in there. Always associate good, safe things with the crate, they should look at it as a refuge, not a punishment. Also, sometimes putting them in there when you are around makes them realize that they aren't in there only when you leave, it's ok to be in there even when you're out and about in the house. Hmm, what else? The Jasper type crate might help be a little more secure and also not be so metal sounding, he might not like that. Also, don't give into his fear of the thunderstorm, don't let him hide. Make sure he knows it can't hurt him by making him sit when there are loud noises, no petting and reenforcing the nervousness, just letting him get through the fear and see it comes out ok. It's hard to be harsh at these times but sometimes they need to know that it's ok, the storm isn't going to hurt them. Sounds like you are doing the right things, hang in there!

No lunch for me yet, but almost!! :D

What else can Ido to make his day better?

I don't know if you have already gone for the immunization, but my wife works for our local county health department and I know she always says that it is important to give them the first dose of Tylenol/Advil or whatever you use about 30 minutes BEFORE the actual immunization and then follow-up additional doses at whatever interval the product or your doctor recommends.

While many people are well aware how well these pain relievers can work, they aren't aware that the immunization can have an impact on the child faster than what the pain reliever does. That is why they recommend giving it in advance so that the child has some of the pain reliever in their system when the immunization hits their system.

We were wondering about this -- but were worried that he would be able to remove the front gate. We have already reinforced the slide handle closure, but he removes the central fasteners, holding the vertical and horizontal bars together, then he pries the vertical bars apart. He's strong and smart.

The one we have actually has a spring loaded latch that has a rod that comes out of both the top and bottom of the latch and both of those rods go through a hole at the top and bottom of the crate. Plus, I think ours also has a way to put a pin or lock through the spring loaded latch so there is no way for the dog to work it loose.

As for getting the bars off, we have never had that problem so I can't say what might be different there. If I can remember to do so I will look at the crate tonight and then post the brand of the crate tomorrow, or is that not allowed here? I don't remember the rules on this. If it is not allowed then I will just PM it to you if you would like.

:ditto::exactly:

This reminds me of something I have learned b from both personal experience with a ton of animals over the years as well as something I saw just recently on PBS about dogs but it also applies to other animals that operate at what they called a "higher plane of existence." Scientists have learned that these kind of animals do have emotions just like small children. As a result these comments about tough love are very accurate for getting your child :D. . . er, I mean pet through tough times like this.

OK, I have run out of questions. But I bet you all wish that would run out things to say rather than questions, right? Wow, was that a stretch for a question or what!?

I wonder if Tate is related to my Rebel? Rebel is scared of the phone also. And also storms. We've had some bad ones lately.. several days a week. We'll come home from work and Rebel's crate bedding is all messed up. He now sleeps in the hallway.. which is where he 'hides' during storms.

My lunch? it's hardly worth mentioning. It was a 'single serve green giant 60 calorie brocoli and cheese' dish. It took all of about 5 bites to finish it.. needless to say I'm starving now. But I have to be good...I wanna lose about 30 lbs before November...

Hey all!! Not sure what just happened, but when I woke up a half-hour ago, it was sunny and bright out.... now it is dark, thundering and raining!! :( Why'd I have to sleep through the good part??? (Oh, b/c otherwise I'd be a very cranky mommy/DW.... almost forgot... ;))

Can you guys send just a wee little bit of pixie dust my way? I think I'm getting pink eye and I'm trying very hard not to... weirdest thing, I was driving home just fine, my right eye felt itchy and so I itched it. And it got worse and worse and worse 'til by the time I got home, it was totally pink and inflamed and so uncomfortable!! So, I cleaned everything I'd touched, put leftover antibiotic drops in and went to bed, hoping for the best (we can get some bad cases around here, seemingly out of the blue! Dan's last time was horrid, so I'm hoping to spare him...) but now that I'm up, it still seems a bit itchy. :( Plus, I'm coming down with a cold on top of it (still holding out hope it's just allergies... :fingers:) so I don't want to have to battle both!

Hey Natalie! Where are you these days? You're missed around here!

So, tonight I'm headed off to Lowe's to get some paint for the girls' rooms... hopefully, by the time I go to work tomorrow Emma's room will be done and ready for us to move her in. The only hold-up is a door.... her room currently doesn't have one, and as it was an office, it didn't really matter. But now, we've got to get one hung before we get her in there. Hopefuly, we'll get one up by the end of the week, and can get to work on Julia's room!

:pixie::pixie: I hope this helps your eye get better! Hoping it's just allergies! I know mine gets itchy and red when my allergies are at their worst!

Movie? I didn't know it was being made into a movie! But yes, I would definitly go see it if it is! I cried my eyes out at the end of the book.. did you?

We got paint at Lowe's Saturday night. Gonna paint the bird bath outside. The birdies are complaining that ours is quite shabby looking and they are going elsewhere for their baths.. so to woo them back we chose a real nice blue color.. NOW if it would just stop raining/storming long enough for us to get it painted and dried....

Nothing much on tap for me for tonight.. will do my Bible reading and my exercise... that's about all I have planned..

Hello everybody! I woke up at 6 am this morning, the earliest I've ever woken up!!! How is everyone:D

6 am is the earliest you have EVER woke up? Can we trade lives? Shoot, I had to get up at 5:00 this morning to run my youngest to camp and be back home so my middle child could take the van to work! And that is not a horribly unusual schedule!

I sure did!! The movie's coming out in December, and it's with Helen Hunt and Owen Wilson. Can't wait!! :)

Wow... and I hadn't even gone to bed yet... ;)

I have to confess, on my days/nights off, I am rarely up before 7am.... usually, it's more like 7:30.... the only days I am up SUPER early are vacation days... i.e. on my way to WDW or Maine. They're about the ony things that can force that alarm clock to go off any earlier than 6 am...

Anybody have any good ideas for dinner?? I'm thinking shrimp and..... something to go with it.... Haven't moved much past that yet...

What's everyone else got on tap for this evening?
Ooompah band practice. Last one for a couple of weeks, since I won't be allowed to lift over a certain weight for a while after the surgery. Hospital called today to move my time earlier (9:30 instead of 12:30) and give me last minute details. Good news is that they will be making me goofy [waits patiently for barrage of comments] before they cut.

With this group we'll need a Dog Yeller as I'm thinking if he only whispers no one will hear him over all the chatter! :D And would he have to speak in questions also?
Of course. He'd still have to follow the JQ rules if he wants to do his business here. Wait, maybe I shouldn't say 'do his business' while we're talking about dog issues.

That banana split sounds amazing that you had for Dad's day. Where does your daughter work? I'm obsessed with ice cream.
In the summers, she manages an ice cream shop that's kind of an adjunct to a waterfront open-air restaurant here. It's across the street from the restaurant and it's the place where people get their deserts, T-shirts, etc. (If you ever see a T-shirt that says "Provision Co.", that would be the restaurant.) The shop she manages is called Flava's.

Today has been a very busy and disheartening day..... too much of a bummer to lay on you guys, but life goes on. :(

I've been lurking a little but not enough time to post until now.

Ken.... I hope the surgery is a success !

Blythe... stay away from me until you are healthy.

Cousin.... maybe if you played live365 for your pup he'd relax.

Gastonsgirl.... get up early and enjoy this life that God gave you. Do NOT take anything or anyone for granted.

( Plus, I'm coming down with a cold on top of it (still holding out hope it's just allergies... ) so I don't want to have to battle both!

Here's some :pixie: dust. Hope that your eye is back to normal soon.

I hope everyone's Monday is going better than Gage's. He got another round of immunizations. I've given him tylenol and a:beer: (just kidding)..

He can get together with my grand-niece. She just had her 2 month shots today. My neice said she had both girls down taking naps.

What about for now, just putting up an tension rod a curtain panel? It'll give her privacy and work until you can get a door up?

 for Pogo (to help flatten out the speed bumps you encountered today) and to Rhonda (sounds like a major case of project-induced stress).

We had a surprise visit from friends this afternoon and went out to dinner with them, but now I'm back at work (well, since I'm on ICOT, I'm technically taking a break from work). This project is the gift that never seems to stop giving.

Maybe you should go to the doctor anyway??

What does everyone else have planned this fine day? Mondays are always crazy at my office, I guess everyone gets sick over the weekend and decides they need to see their doctor on Monday!
Sarah answered your question, Jenn. I know that my nurse (having taken some vacation time) would be SWAMPED today. The fever went away on its own and I'll tell her about it when I go in on Thursday for an extra blood test.

Hi guys...... have I told you all how much I love you lately ??? If not.... my bad !

Today has been a very busy and disheartening day..... too much of a bummer to lay on you guys, but life goes on. :(

Pogo - you are much loved by all of us and I'm very sorry to hear you've had a disheartening day. Please know that we are all here for you if you need to talk. I know you have many cyber hugs coming your way! Including this one..

Diane, is your Bible reading part of a course or are you reading cover to cover?

I hope this evening goes well for all my friends and if you are reading this you are my friend.

It's part of my quiet time in the evenings. Not really reading cover to cover.. I'm sticking with the New Testament.. right now I'm reading thru Ephesians... then I also have a devotional book on the Women of the Bible.. I just started it and obviously it starts with Eve so I'm spending some time with her each evening.

You are so sweet Deb! You are my friend also!

I lost my tomato plants last night with the storm we had last night. Major straight line winds and just plain wild. Good news is that my car is fine, was worried because of the hail.

Any good evening plans? I just plan on chilling. Technically today is my Friday night, two days off to chill and get my act together, which I need to do big time. Until later.

Sorry to hear about your tomato plants.. is it too late in the season to replant? I'm glad there was no damage to your car, or your home, etc.. Stay safe!

My evening plans yesterday consisted of going to the local Senior Center for dinner with my parents and we met up with several of my cousins (who all work there).. each night they have a dinner for just $5.95.. can't beat that! Last night was lasagna, salad, garlic bread and one side, which I chose the Chicken And Dumplin Soup.. YUM! I came home and exercised, then did my quiet time/Bible reading.

Diane, get Stitch over there ASAP!!!! If you get him started with the backhoe, we can always figure out what to do. His DD would like the golf course too much, so we'll need to figure something else out!!!

Ok! Stitch is over there and has the place backhoed... he's asked numerous of his 'cousins' to come help since we are short on time...we just need to tell them the 'theme' of the place...

Has anyone eaten at Whispering Canyon? We are thinking of trying it in December, since we have never been to the WL. We want to see the holiday decorations, and also check out the Villas.

My sis and I ate there two years ago for dinner. We LOVED it!!!! We both got the all you can eat platter. It was great! Our server wasn't too playful, but we didn't really ask for much (in the way of napkins, straws, ketchup, etc...)but the ones around us were and it was a lot of fun! I really think you will enjoy it! I debated long and hard about eating here this upcoming trip..but just couldn't figure out how to work it in with my plans...

Wow... 5 am... I don't know how you do it. I suppose you get used to whatever needs to be done, though!

Well, I'm off to bed on the early side... a little Nyquil and try to get this cold to go away.

I get up also every day at 5am.. even on weekeds. One of my doggies takes phenobarbitrol and it's a 12 hour med so we have him on schedule for 5am and 5pm (give or take a little) so on weekends we get up at 5am, feed them, give him his med, then go back to bed... you do get used to it... even on vacation I'm up early.. usually don't sleep much past 7:30...

HOpe the Nyquil helped and you were able to get to sleep and knock out that cold!

Sarah answered your question, Jenn. I know that my nurse (having taken some vacation time) would be SWAMPED today. The fever went away on its own and I'll tell her about it when I go in on Thursday for an extra blood test.

So glad to hear your fever went away on its own! I'm praying for you! HOpe you have a good day today and get your project done and out of the way!

Good morning all........ up and at'em !

I will be a little scarce around here for a while. I need to take care of a few things. Thanks for all your concern and well wishes.

Can someone post a question for me ?

HUGS again to you Pogo....please know you don't have to go thru anything alone.. we are all here for you!

And if posting a question for you is something that will help ease your burden then YES! I'll post a question for you. "Is it Friday yet?" hope that helps! :fresh:

So is anyone else enjoying summer like weather? We have a lovely day again today without a great deal of humidity which is rare.

See you all later.

Morning Nat! I've missed seeing you around! We are having some nice fall like weather here.. only in the 70's today! BEAUTIFUL! I'm gonna try to take a short walk on my lunch hour!

Maybe this will cheer someone up? Rachel's amniotic fluid is back within normal limits. Everything is fine at the moment. We're keeping a close eye with twice-a-week Dr visits.
There you go! Great news! Was it the lamb, do you think?

YAY! Way to take care of Rachel and the wee one!

Zoop... quick painting break...

Did you see Carol's suggestion about a curtain and tension rod for the bedroom??? She's so darn creative!
I did! We just might do that, she's so wanting to get in that room! Just concerned about light... her room's at the top of the stairs, and won't get much darkness with the curtain. So, it'll have to be a short-term fix... Dan's got a lead on some doors for throughout the house, her room included, though!

I had a panic attack this AM.. my car wouldn't start... I literally saw all my Disney savings flying out the window for repairs.

Does anyone else think this smilie :beat: is a bit on the mean side?
Sending you some car :pixie: that it's just something small...

... and yes, I don't like that smilie either... understand it (took a minute...) but not fond of it...

Scrambled eggs w/ cheddar, ham and a little cayenne... yummm!

I think "Pepto Bismol" would be a good theming start, don't you? Right now, I can envision two giant bottle 'pillars' flanking the front door.

Ohhh.. I like! I like! And we can paint all his side tables to look like the Pepto tablets! Plus it'll be so easy to paint using just that one pepto pink color! Where's our paint spray gun?

The dead horse smiley is kinda odd, but I can see where it would be useful (think pool hopping and mug threads)

So Di I'll hope to see good news for your car soon.

Don't you all think a little green to go with the pepto could work?

Mary I hope you can find new tomato plants. (To be honest with the pile of tomato's here I don't grow them anymore)

Today has been a very busy and disheartening day..... too much of a bummer to lay on you guys, but life goes on.

I can relate. I didn't post much yesterday b/c too much was going on. Do you remember when life was simple??? Hope things improve for you!

Do you have any advice for us?

So sorry to hear about Tate. I know how disheartening it is when a pup is struggling w/ behavior/emotional stresses. My dd (works for the vet and starting vet school in the fall:spend:) always fusses at me for spoiling the pups. She insists they are not human babies but furbabies. (I think she's just jealous). We had so much trouble w/ Chloe b/c she would get sick when I would leave, especially if there was a thunderstorm. We cured it by getting another pup which ended up w/ another pup if anyone remembers that story:blush: (now we have 4).
One tip that she always stresses is DO NOT make a big deal over leaving and returning. She said NO big greetings or farewells. It's not the same as behavior w/ a child. While most dogs are smart (I think we've all seen the exception) they don't have time and place like a human due to the lack of language. Yes, they can understand 1 word commands ect. but can't tell you about the great bone they had 2 weeks ago. It's more black and white.... bone= yummy.
I went to help her w/ Kennels this weekend b/c it was a holiday wknd (what a mother doesn't do I got fussed at again for talking sweet to the pups when I came it. I swear some of them look like they were on that TV commercial w/ Sarah McLaughlin. I do reward mine for going in their Kennel but not when I return. We do this w/ children to develop a secure attachment but some believe this only increases the anxiety in animals. So no super big greetings and no long sad farewells.
That plastic kennel sounds like a great one. That's the kind we use. There are kennels that can hold a dog. I saw a dog that broke it's jaw trying to get through a wrought iron gate during a TS w/ no one home. In the kennels this wknd there were many stainless steel bowls with huge teethmarks in them- not little dings but 1" deep impressions in the bowls. I just want to hug them all. Goodluck w/ it!

You guys are the best! I'm beginning to feel a little bit better today.
Being there, doing that! My Mom (84) has been diagnosed with Alzheimer's and it's a real challenge at times. I'm afraid I don't have as much patience with her as I should.
I'm excited about our upcoming December trip and seeing everyone, but I'm stressed out about it too!I need to learn to go with the flow, right?
Glad to hear you are feeling a little better. I am part of the sick parent club too. I know the guilt you feel b/c it is so hard. Try to live in her reality and laugh when you can. Feel free to PM me w/ any questions. My specialty is more attachment and children but I've had experience w/ my own GM and some study in the field. I do want to go in Dec. I went with the flow last Oct and hardly got to see anyone

Afternoon all, seems like I've missed so much. I've been laying on an ice pack since yesterday.

I feel your pain too. I fell down the stairs (concrete ones) a couple weeks ago and now my shoulder is hurting. Hope it feels better soon.

I'm in a little funk today although I'm not sure why. I think I'm just exhausted from work, and feeling guilty that I'm not working at present (I haven't done any work for over 24 hours now).
I think I'll go clean the pool and take a swim. Anyone want to join me?
Hope you are feeling better soon. There is definitely a funk thats spreading huh?
I'll go for that swim..

I'm eating watermelon! I love Watermelon! Who else loves watermelon??
It's so messy. I love it but then what do I do with the rest of the melon???

You may also want to take a look at the kind of crate you are using.
Here is some pixie and hug for everyone who need them.

I agree w/ this crate... Thanks for the hugs and dust too.. I could use that today.

I've given him tylenol and a:beer: (just kidding)..
What else can Ido to make his day better?
:rotfl: I remember those days.

What was lunch today everyone?
I went to PJ's brew house. It just opened last week in BR. It was great! I had an Angus beef chili burger... most of it is still in my fridge.

Scientists have learned that these kind of animals do have emotions just like small children. As a result these comments about tough love are very accurate for getting your child . . . er, I mean pet through tough times like this.

I agree, it's more tough love than babying the pups. IGNORE the behaviors (not from a safety point but don't reinforce the sadness etc).

I'm sitting here trying to think of something to say and can't think of a thing. Don't you hate it when you get writer's block?
My writer's block is called getting on I'cot...

Can you guys send just a wee little bit of pixie dust my way? What's everyone else got on tap for this evening?
Sending some dust for your eye... Disclaimer: I am not responsible for any dust that gets in your eye or irritates it. Please close your eyes.. here it comes....:pixie:
I don't know why I watched the replay of the 2003 sugar bowl. I knew how it ended & I have it on DVD.

Anybody have any good ideas for dinner?? I'm thinking shrimp and..... something to go with it....
I have a great recipe for shrimp casserole. It is from La. so it's a little spicy, but you can adjust that. It's shrimp, rice, mushroom soup and cajun seasoning to taste and cheddar cheese.

I lost my tomato plants last night with the storm we had last night. Good news is that my car is fine, was worried because of the hail.

Any good evening plans?
So sorry to hear about your tomato plants. Hope you can salvage some. Rachel (dd23) had hail damage a couple weeks ago (2200 in damage). She was so upset but when they repaired the car it came back better than before b/c they took out all the dings.... I have some extra tomatoes if you are ever in the area; but, I have to warn you it's supposed to hit 98 this week.

Our pediatrician told me once that pink eye was a cold coming out in the eye. Made a lot of sense to me...
Well, back to the grind! Later,
Dr. Ellen??? I thought a cold was the rhino virus, no wait that's dogs, the corona virus:confused: or is that for dogs? (obviously, I don't know what I'm talking about) BUT, if a cold is a virus and pink eye is a cold why does it respond to antibiotics? Sounds more like a bacteria to me.

Nope, not at all.... it's chilly and damp here, with a high only expected to be in the low 60's. Still raining on& off, and boy those t'storms yesterday were crazy... our plants barely survived!! But, the cool weather will be good for painting, so that'll be nice...

So what colors are the rooms?

The lone Ohio contingent is checking in! Hope everyone has a magical day today! I had a panic attack this AM.. my car wouldn't start... I literally saw all my Disney savings flying out the window for repairs.
Does anyone else think this smilie :beat: is a bit on the mean side?
Hello to my buckeye friend, hope your car is better real soon.... I heard PETA is looking into that smilie.

Here's some pixie dust and magic for all the bad days yesterday.
Maybe this will cheer someone up? Rachel's amniotic fluid is back within normal limits.
Glad to hear Rachel is doing better.
I mentioned I've been stressed w/ family stuff. Mostly my dad's illness. The doc's think he has parkinson's which has made him practically give up and he won't get out of his chair.
Here is my frustration. I don't know if many of you have heard about the bad defribulators? Well, my dad had one put in during the time the bad ones were manufactured. I suspect he has one of the bad ones. It's not time for a new battery but the doc asked him to come in to evaluate if he should put in a new one. He said they now have a "better model" but to change it would require more extensive surgery. He doesn't know if he is strong enough for the surgery. Here's my concern. He has had a fever about 103 and his heart rate was 55. For someone who has a pace maker his heart rate is never regular. I asked his nurse yesterday (home health) and she said "see his daily HR log... when you have a pacemaker you don't see the variance like his". I'm angry but my mom isn't interested in checking to see if he does have the bad pacemaker. I hate to get involved w/ lawsuits (sorry Ken). Does anyone have any suggestions. I am pretty sure we have to cancel our trip for Oct. b/c he isn't going to make it. Not that we know how long he will last but we struggle to get him to the dr's office. It's consuming all of my energy and not in a good way either. My siblings just want to put him in a home and my mom is not ready and I tend to support my mom b/c he relies on her for most of his care. He won't let anyone do anything for him but my mom even it's something simple like "what are we having for lunch" he's wearing her out. The nurse did offer to ask the dr. for a Social Worker, which I jumped at the opportunity. Ellen, like you, I wonder can anyone have that much patience? My mom is afraid to have ppl in the house too and you can't predict when he will need help.
Any suggestions? Even if it's just humor to make me smile.

I had a panic attack this AM.. my car wouldn't start... I literally saw all my Disney savings flying out the window for repairs. My dad came over and got it started.. he thinks it's just the battery. Sorry for getting behind to day but I am zooping in for just a few minutes and will try to do a laundry list posting before I have to run again. If I don't get a chance to come back then I will say Ta Ta For Now and will probably see you all on Thursday because tomorrow is a doctor day!

Today has been a very busy and disheartening day..... too much of a bummer to lay on you guys, but life goes on. :(

Ken.... I hope the surgery is a success !

Pogo, sorry to hear you had a tough day yesterday and I certainly hope things are going better for you today!

And thanks for the reminder about Ken's surgery, I certainly hope it goes well!

Here is some :pixie: and a big  for both of you!

Wow, I was up at 4:20am taking my SIL to the airport, and got back home at 5:30am. Yup, once you get older sleeping in is a thing of the past, at least for me.

It really is amazing how tough it is to get a good night's sleep as we get older isn't it? And while it is easy to blame it on the kids it is also sometimes just a part of the aging process and that is what really stinks! Before he passed away at the age of 86 last year my FiL could barely sleep 3-4 hours a night which meant he napped more during the day which made it harder for him to sleep at night. It just really becomes a vicious circle at that age for so many people!

I haven't a clue. I'm just waiting for someone to show up on my door step with a complete fully cooked meal in hand. :D

So do you get many people showing up unexpectedly with complete meals? If you do, then I want you to let me know when a house goes up for sale in your neighborhood!

Hey, fellow SHRM member! :hi:

Our pediatrician told me once that pink eye was a cold coming out in the eye. Made a lot of sense to me... besides the antibiotic drops, she would "prescribe" cool, damp tea bags (plain ol' Lipton).

Wow, I didn't realize we were both members of SHRM! Or should I say were? Since I am no longer able to work full time I have allowed my SHRM membership to lapse due to a lack of funds. I have to say that SHRM was really a great organization that really offered a lot to its membership and to the business world as a whole. With the government getting so overly involved in every part of our lives the Human Resource profession has been dragged along into so many areas that we didn't want to be involved with that it was really nice to have SHRM there to keep us up to date on what all was happening.

You know, I had always wondered if pink eye and a cold that is expressed through the eyes were the same thing. Then a few years ago I saw something on PBS that discussed this and they explained that while the two things can appear to be the same they are actually two very different issues and have to be treated very differently as a result. However the one big thing that was the same between both is the need to try to avoid touching your eyes while you have it and always washing your hands as well as you can before touching anything.

I'll try the tea bags! Should I drink a cup of tea first?

You should definitely have the cup of tea especially if you fix it the way my wife does! When we are camping in cold weather she has a special type of tea (sorry I don't remember which one) that she adds a partial shot of Jack Daniels to! It tastes much better than it sounds but she still likes it more than I ever did.

My dad came over and got it started.. he thinks it's just the battery. My dh thinks it could also be the alternator.. I was able to get to work but when I tried to restart it it wouldn't start.. so I may be stuck here...

It's part of my quiet time in the evenings. Not really reading cover to cover.. I'm sticking with the New Testament.. right now I'm reading thru Ephesians.

Sorry to hear about your tomato plants.. is it too late in the season to replant? I'm glad there was no damage to your car, or your home, etc.. Stay safe!

Hopefully it is nothing more than a battery or alternator because depending on the type of car both of these things are fairly easy to fix.

You know, I have read the entire bible, Old and New Testament, from cover to cover two times. I did this the first time when I was in my early 20's. Then somewhere along in life between then and two years ago I lost that original bible so when I decided to attempt this a second time two years ago I had to get a different one. Then about 6 months ago my original one turned up in a box in the basement. What really amazed me is how different the two versions were! You would think that the bible is the bible regardless of who puts it out!

If you are serious about getting some tomatoes of your own this year maybe you could consider getting some patio tomato plants that you can plant in pots. That way of the fall creeps up on you before you get a chance to harvest many you can bring them indoors for a few weeks or a month until they finish producing for the season. We have done this a couple of times and enjoyed decent success.

Maybe this will cheer someone up? Rachel's amniotic fluid is back within normal limits. Everything is fine at the moment. We're keeping a close eye with twice-a-week Dr visits.

Good to hear that things are back where they should be! Fortunately things like this are fairly common so most doctors are well versed in handling them.

Don't you all think a little green to go with the pepto could work?

You know, if we are doing a theme related to health care then I think we need to cut a big hole in the roof and put a big pole in the hole so it looks like a mortar and pestle!

Blythe, there's a room darkening fabric called blackout that completely blocks light or dimout that dims light...you could look into either one of those.

Will you help me finish painting my house if I help you?

Hi all... today has not been much better. :(

I have three new cancer claims running and I take these very personally. I spent most of yesterday and today with my clients and their families. Lots of  and  Now I've got to catch up on my routine paperwork tonight.

I've got some training meetings tomorrow and then I will be with my clients again after that so I won't be around much for a while.

Can I borrow a question ????
