May 21, 1918 – Singer Dennis Day was born in The Bronx, N.Y. (He can be heard in Disney’s 1948 feature “Melody Time.”)
May 21, 1928 – Walt Disney’s trademark application for “Mickey Mouse” was filed with the United States Patent Office.
May 21, 1933 – A 23-year old artist named Wolfgang Reitherman was hired at the Disney Studio in Hollywood, Ca. (“Woolie” as he would be nicknamed, would start work in June and go on to become one of Walt’s legendary Nine Old Men.)
May 21, 1934 – Disney comic illustrator Luciano Gatto was born in Venice, Italy.
May 21, 1940 – Walter E. Disney, of Los Angeles, received patent #2,201,689 from the United States Patent and Trademark Office, for the art of animation. It is for a multi-plane camera that allows for a more realistic three dimensional image as well as depth and richness to the animation.
May 21, 1948 – Disney’s Donald Duck cartoon “Donald’s Dream Voice” was released.
May 21, 1954 – The Disney cartoon “Pigs is Pigs” was released.
May 21, 1954 – The Disney short “Johnny Fedora and Alice Bluebonnet” was released.
May 21, 1957 – Actor Judge Reinhold, Neil Miller in Disney’s live-action features “The Santa Clause: The Escape Clause,” The Santa Clause 2: The Mrs. Clause,” and “The Santa Clause,” was born in Wilmington, De.
May 21, 1961 – The Disney TV show aired “Wonders of the Water World.”
