In the early stages of EPCOT's construction, a nest of endangered woodpeckers was discovered in a wooded area that was scheduled to be cleared for future development. To preserve the area's natural state, Disney moved the entire construction site 300 feet. A backstage service road was later named for the woodpeckers.
