I'm sure this has been asked a hundred times, but what do the colors mean on the side of the monorail?

Thanks,
Michelle

Michelle,

The colors on the side of the monorails mean...absolutely nothing! The twelve colors are used only for identification purposes and each train can be found on any of the three beams at any given time (Resort, Express, Epcot).

From mid-2007 to early-2008, train placement was affected because the interiors of each train were retrofitted one at a time. The higher capacity trains were placed on Express. As of now, there is pretty much nothing to determine which train goes where, other than mechanical issues.

A train that is acting up and therefore in danger of going "10-7" (out of service) will almost always be placed on the Express beam. This is because the switch beam to the shop spurline (that section of track that heads off toward Space Mountain) connects to the Express beam. It is less disruptive to send a train off from Express than Resort and certainly Epcot.

I hope this answers your question. Long and short of it: the colors are an example of Disney fun. Instead of "monorail 11" or "monorail k", we have "monorail coral!" :mickey:
