I doubt we'll even get close to summer with this one.

Hope everybody made it without major mishap or loss of luggage. Remember, DDA is not responsible for lost items and pay no attention to that stack of suitcases in my garage.

Everybody ready for Monday?

OK, so I posted this in the other thread, but then it closed, so I'm repeating myself here:

It's the Godfather channel here

When you win a national championship with us, you get a Mercedes

Congrats on 5K ladies

:nono: Why do you have so much trouble playing by the rules?

(Guess no one noticed anything new over here

Have a great day, everyone! We're driving out to the burbs to see my mom for her 84th birthday!

Congrats on 8,000 posts, Ellen! :congrats:

And, happy birthday to your Mom!

We visited my dad today. He's doing pretty well since he moved down to assisted living.

Ready? Not even close.

Did you know I'm only 9 days away from my DLR trip? I wrote a pre-trip report over in the DLR-Trip Reports section. I linked to it in my signature.

What is everybody planning to do this week? I have errands to run every day after work. At least the week should go by fast! (I'm hoping!)

Ken, in those suitcases, did you hide my scissors? I was doing a little decorating in the scrapbooking room and all my scissors went missing.

I'm ready for the week. I have tomorrow off!!!! I got quite a bit done today, but not any sewing, oh well, it can wait!!! I'll try tomorrow since I'll be home by myself.

So where are we? No man's land? I hope that RV can sleep about 20 of us!! I put dibs on the King size bed!!! You know, the one with the big window with the view of the.....lake????

The wind is picking up, and the temp is definitely dropping. Sure glad we got the Brats off the grill before the cold front moved in. Supposed to rain tomorrow (and most likely the rest of the week).
Anyone got anything good going on this week??

So..... I've got my luggage.... but where are we?? I'm not even sure if I packed the right stuff....

.... and about all those suitcases.... do you have any that are making any noise???

Glad to hear he's adjusting well.... I would imagine that's a tough move, even in the best of circumstances. I always thought my mom would do well moving into a place like that, with more going on, etc..... she doesn't need the assisted living portion yet, but it'd be there if and when she did.... but I'm seeing by her response to the rehab facility that it's just not for her, at least not yet. She's getting a little stir-crazy there, and it's only been 3 days!

Now, how did you get the king bed AND the view??? Sigh... I'll just take the one with the view out the OTHER window.... ;)

This week is Spring Break for us, so we'll be doing lots of local stuff.... well, tomorrow is just my "sleep and pray the girls enjoy the day of computers and videos" they get for letting me rest.... then the rest of the week, we'll be visiting a children's museum, our M.O.S.T museum (it has a bunch of cool new exhibits, caves and rock climbing, etc.) and we've got friends coming out to visit... maybe a movie day at the mall and a little shopping... and it's supposed to be 70 on Thursday, so you bet we'll be at the park!! yeah!!

Julia's best friend at school called her from the airport on Saturday... her parent's had surprised her and her sister with a trip to Disney!! She was so excited!! I thought it was cool she just had to call Julia and tell her.... and I was proud of my DD's, that they didn't come running to us and ask why we weren't going!! :) We're trying to stay "hush hush" about the December trip and see if we can maintain any element of surprise for it.... :funny:

:hi: Hi Blythe! Nice that you can stop in! Sounds like you have a fun week coming up! I wish I had a week just to play right now!

Well tonight I realized that my middle one is definitely a teen. I went up to get her for dinner, and she had headphones on, listening to music. I told her it was time for dinner, and like a normal teen, she said " I heard you, I'm not deaf!". (For those of you that remember, yes, actually she IS deaf - but obvious hears pretty well with her implant!). I had to laugh - I hadn't the heart to say, "um, yes, you are". Sometime I even forget..

Cindy, that is too funny.... gotta love the comments you get!! (and esp. when they're only 6 yrs old... Emma's tried a few like that!!)

Feels funny to be on here with you this late at night.... it's been ages!! Things aren't too bad here in babyland, although I'm about to go back and do a c-section. You're probably getting ready to tuck in... hope you have a good night!!

In case I'm not back on afterwards -- anyone want me to set up some coffee for the morning??

Okay Caroleh some how your scissors found their way into one of my suitcases. I'm glad I checked this am to see where we were in the thread. Because I almost got stuck in the undercarriage again. :D So Ken where are we and why did you make it feel so chilly in here?
Oh wait the temp outside dropped that's why the windows fogged up. Now where did the dog go Ken?

Did we start the coffee? I sure hope so.

Hey all... I'm still feeling icky. Went back to the doct on Friday and found out that the force of my coughing caused me to develop hemoragging (spelling?) in my eyes. He gave a medical term for it.. but ultimately it is bleeding in my eyes... thus explains the red bloody look. They look yellow cause that's where the body is trying to absorb back the blood. They are looking a bit better today, still hurt by light and the whiteness of the computer screen so not sure how often I'll be on here.
I've tried to skim over past posts... but didn't retain much... I know someone (Gregg maybe?) was auditioning at Disney so good luck to him... a few of you are traveling so safe travels.. a few of you hit posting milestones so congrats on those (Jenn, Carol and Ellen maybe?)...someone's daughter was taking a test maybe? so good luck to her... and to any who are sick.. get well wishes... and did I see a post with Alex whining about how much work work is? All I can say there is what kind of cheese would you like with that whine?

:hi: Mornin' folks! These legs were made for loping, so I'm sure I'm in the right place!

I'm still laughing at T&G's story. Don't you love it when your special child does something so absolutely typical, that it isn't an annoying trait in him/her?

Di -- I hope you get straightened away soon. You want to be 100% when the good weather arrives once and for all!

Speaking of icky -- I'm home with fever boy today. Euan developed one at dinnertime yesterday, and it still hasn't broken -- but I am doing the double dosing (Tylenol and Advil) and it's keeping it under control. Harry was also up during the night feeling off -- but he told me he was all right this morning. I had let him sleep in, and I took him to school a little late.

I read your Pre-trip Bethany..... I'm looking forward to your full reports!

Alex -- I'm excited for you and the boys! I hope you have a terrific time!

What's everyone else up to?

I can't wait to hear about your trip. I'll be going to DLR for the first time next June - it's actually going to be the last 5 days of my honeymoon (saving the best for last :mickey:) -so I'm going to need tips! So is the Candy Cane Inn really made out of candy canes? :candy:

Di, I hope you fell better soon. Here's some :pixie::pixie: for you to get better soon.

I've been doing good at doing some of the jobs I need to get done. I'm already on the 3rd thing on my list, but after doing the first thing on my list I think I need to get a new DH. Since we bought the house we have a provincial warranty, our first thing we have to do is send in a form with things that need to be done within the first 30 days. I've been after him to get this done since before the end of March, he handed me the form last night to do today. What is the first thing it says on the top of this form? This form must be completed and summited before the first 30 days of posssession..which would of been April 3. I ran to the store and faxed it off. I sure hope that our warranty isn't null and void. I hate being a nag, but sometime with him I guess I have to be bigger nag. No comments Pogo!!!:D I'm a little miffed at Gilles at this point. I called him up and told him about it and he says to me, "Well the form was in my briefcase. You could of gotten it and done it." Yep, the locked briefcase that I don't touch and didn't know where it was at. Okay, I'm doing all the unpacking and now I was suppose to do that to. I didn't know I was the only one living here. Sorry, I'm really upset and needed to vent.

Have great trips, Bethany, Mikki and Pogo!!!

Did I have a question somewhere in there?

I'm off to my sewing machine and playing some music really loud to get this out of my system!!!

Hi everyone,

Sorry, I have been AWOL for a while. Anyone miss me, I hope?

Some major things going on and it doesn't seem to be ending any time soon.

First off I've been sick, very sick, as of yesterday it's been 4 weeks with this cold or what ever it is. I'm on antibotics and everything else that you can imagine. I'm finally feeling better, my ear is another story, it's still plugged up. And I'm flying in less than a week. Oh joy!

Having some issues at home as well, but it really seems they aren't really issues when you think about it. They just don't compare to other problems.

Another dealer here at the store died and it's hitting me hard. :crying: We don't know a lot of the details, other than they were coming home from Florida. He died quickly, either of a heart attack or an aneurysm. He was a great guy, always had a smile on his face, never complaining about anything. He was young too, we think about 58 or 59. It's just not fair. So I sit here at my desk thinking about him and crying.

Hope everyone is well and give your love ones a big ole

Sorry to be a big downer, but it helps writing about it.

Have a good Monday everyone!

Mary sorry to hear of your loss & your yucky cold lingering.

Carol, that's pretty funny but I don't think your whole warranty will be in jepordy. (Personally I prefer the leverage banking the builder gives but I suppose that's not a wide spread option is it?) Vent away as it does help.

Emily any sorta good for you cookies in that tray?

Di I do hope your Dr. has a plan for when you should be better & that he's confirmed this is unrealted to the other issues you've been dealing with.

Euan feel better soon ok? Does he have a movie he has to watch Jenn?

Hey all, just checking in to let you all know that my thyroid surgery on Friday went well. There were a couple of things that happened that meant I was on my back for about eleven hours straight rather than the five or six hours that had originally been estimated. Then because the doctor knew I would have terrible back pain from laying like that for so long he gave me too much painkiller and they couldn't wake me up. They ended up having to give me something to counteract the painkillers which meant I woke up with nothing in my system. Needless to say that with all my back problems that was NOT a fun position to be in!

The good news is that even though the thyroid was about twice as large as they expected they think they got it all and they didn't see any signs of it anyplace else. Regardless though it is standard procedure that sometime in the next 30 days I will have to take a couple of doses of radioactive iodine just to be sure it is all killed. They say this does not make you sick or cause you to lose your hair or anything like that.

I actually feel well enough that I am up and about and am working for a few hours this afternoon at my wife's store while she does some errands. Of course we are starting into our slow time of year so I can do a lot of sitting which helps.

So how was all of your weekends?

Sounds like a good week. :hi: to Julia and Emma...... hope they let you sleep !

Pogo, I can't believe your trip is here already... time sure is flying!! I hope you have a GREAT time!!

The girls say :hi: back, and bless them, they were so good -- they let me sleep, and are now outside running around like the caged animals they were all day, thoroughly enjoying the sunny weather, even though it's a bit cold! We have a landscaper that works for Dan's company coming by this evening to help us with the yard -- I can't wait!!

Hi Jasper!! :) I'm so glad to hear your surgery went well, even though the complications left you more uncomfortable than I'm sure you thought you'd be.... it's good to know you're up and about and feeling better!!

Mary, I'm so sorry to hear about your friend at work.... it's so hard to hear about stuff like that, and it sure makes you take a look at your own "stuff". Sending a  your way and hoping you're having a bit better of an afternoon!

Jenn -- how's Euan feeling? I hope his fever's broken by now... sending lots of :pixie: his way!!

Glad to hear he is doing well. Is he close by to where you live?

We live about an hour away from my Dad on the weekends. During the week, it would take longer as the traffic would be nuts.

More :pixie: on the way, Diane! I sure hope you start feeling better soon!

What's everyone else up to?

:pixie: on the way to Euan too!

I'm up to about 99.4 degrees personally. I'm right on the verge of a nasty sinus infection, and ended up coming home early today, but I haven't had the energy to do anything.

Sorry, I have been AWOL for a while. Anyone miss me, I hope?

I was just wondering where you'd been earlier today. Sorry to hear you're still sick too! :pixie: on the way! And, sorry to hear about your friend too.

Hey all, just checking in to let you all know that my thyroid surgery on Friday went well.

Glad the surgery went well, although I'm sorry about the complications. :pixie: on the way to you too!

Anyone know why my DH isn't home yet? He went hot air ballooning, and he's still not home even though it's pretty much his bedtime now. I did speak to him, and he's fine, I was just hoping he'd bring me a sugar free root beer, and now it's too late for one. :(

Pirategal and I will be flying in ACY in June, do you suppose the airport has car rentals there at the airport? And if so how do you rent a car from them? Can't seem to find one that has a location at, near the airport. Which makes no sense seeing how it's an international airport, ya know what I mean?

They are not a close family, but Uncle Kenny  was quite the guy and we loved him dearly.

Morning everyone! Feeling a bit better today. Just wish my eyes would get back to normal. Thanks to everyone for all the pixie dust and get well wishes!

I sure hope Euan is feeling better today! Get well wishes to him! And hope that Harry is still feeling well also.

I can't wait to hear about your trip. I'll be going to DLR for the first time next June - it's actually going to be the last 5 days of my honeymoon (saving the best for last :mickey:) -so I'm going to need tips! So is the Candy Cane Inn really made out of candy canes? :candy:

It was until I went in November last year.. now it's kind of a melted, sucked on glop of candy cane goo :D. Quite tasty! You will have a great time!

Hope everyone's Monday is going well so far. (We're at 60 days in our countdown, in case anyone besides me is counting.) :mickey:

Yeah! 60 days! 2 months! 1,440 hours!!! It's getting so close! You KNOW I'm excited for you!

Hey Diane..... :fresh: Does that make you feel better ????

Blech... you just spit all your germs at me...:D

First off I've been sick, very sick, as of yesterday it's been 4 weeks with this cold or what ever it is. I'm on antibotics and everything else that you can imagine. I'm finally feeling better, my ear is another story, it's still plugged up. And I'm flying in less than a week. Oh joy!

Another dealer here at the store died and it's hitting me hard. We don't know a lot of the details, other than they were coming home from Florida. He died quickly, either of a heart attack or an aneurysm. He was a great guy, always had a smile on his face, never complaining about anything. He was young too, we think about 58 or 59. It's just not fair. So I sit here at my desk thinking about him and crying.

Sorry you are sick.. seems this thread may need to be decontaminated... and I'm really sorry for your loss.

And I am in cultural dances for the Latino Student Association dinner Saturday night. I'm actually looking forward to that one, it's a lot of fun! Anyone want to come see me do the Merengue, Samba, and Cumbia?

That sounds like fun! Do you give lessons?

Any cookies left?

You can have my share... haven't had much of an appetite lately..

I actually feel well enough that I am up and about and am working for a few hours this afternoon at my wife's store while she does some errands. Of course we are starting into our slow time of year so I can do a lot of sitting which helps.

Jasper - glad to hear the surgery went, well, sort of well... at least you came thru it fine. I hope all continues to go well with your health and that all the bad stuff is now behind you and you are looking forward to NOTHING but perfect health for the rest of your life!

Di - take care of yourself! Hope you feel better soon! Do you want some chicken soup?

Thanks! I actually have some Lipton Cup of Soup in my desk. I think I'm chicken souped out though..

Sorry to hear you are sick. Take it easy and get plenty of rest. My fever was only at about 99.2 and I know I was drained so I can imagine how much horribler (is that a word?) you must feel.

Did your dh make it home ok? Did he have that sugar free root beer? Did he perhaps bring an extra one? If so may I have one? I'm tired of diet 7-up and a root beer sounds rather yummy.

I hope that you feel better Rhonda. I'm on my 4th week of this stuff. It's bad that's for sure.

I went to the doctor again this morning for my ear. Well not much to report, but now to take Sudafed & Claritin and also keep taking my antibotics and Nasonex. I feel like a drug store! At least I guess that I'm okay to fly on Sunday morning for WDW. That was the most important thing.

Strange thing in regards to the fellow who passed away, we haven't heard anything in regards to the funeral. Nothing in the papers or at the funeral homes. He did die out of state and suddenly, but you would have thought some mention. We are all thinking that maybe he isn't dead. Strange?

That sounds like fun! Do you give lessons?

I actually am the one who needs the lessons! I have a strong ballet background, and I can pick up all kinds of choreography, but I have no formal training in Latin dances. The kinds of dances we are doing are very different from the ballroom versions, too, which is very exciting and interesting. If we get any of it on video I'll send anyone who's interested a YouTube link!

Want to know how my morning went? Well, it was nothing short of a hot mess. I woke up early, which was a blessing, because my hair dryer blew at around 9:20 am. I had to get to a 10 am meeting, so I quickly called my best friend and ran over to her place to finish getting ready! In my haste to save some semblance of a good hair day, I put on the trousers that I dropped a hem on last week and fixed with safety pins (I dind't get around to mending them this weekend), and the wrong pair of heels. I accidentally put on my extra-high stilettos I only wear to dressy evening occasions. The good news is my friend has a great hair dryer, so my hair looked fierce after all!

But on the bright side, 49 days until my trip!!!!! I just want to go NOW!!!! Do you think I should start packing???

But it's wonderful to hear your doing well. Do you need cookies to help you recover?

Thanks for all the well wishes! And yes, I would love some cookies! What kind do you have?

You know, I shouldn't come to this thread because every time I do we end up talking about cookies and then I have to stop at the grocery store on the way home and pick some up! Of course I always keep some oranges, bananas or other fruit around the house so I don't go absolutely crazy and eat an entire bag of Oreos in one evening but my waistline and my wife would still prefer that I not be eating ANY cookies at all. Oh well, you gotta have some fun in life too right?

Wow!! I just caught up on reading all the posts on the thread since I had been on last time. I am sorry to hear about everyone's losses and illness. So here is some :pixie::pixie: and some :hug: for everyone that needs it!!

I hope that the bug that several of you have is not the same one that swept through our little town a couple of months ago because that was a particularly nasty one that people really seemed to have a hard time shaking. We did have some of it go through our house but didn't seem to have it as bad as many others in the area did. Of course since my wife works at the County Health Department she makes sure we get our flu shots every fall which does seem to help with the severity.

OK, I don't have a good question, are there any laying around in the RV that I could use?

Well tonight I realized that my middle one is definitely a teen. I went up to get her for dinner, and she had headphones on, listening to music. Regardless though it is standard procedure that sometime in the next 30 days I will have to take a couple of doses of radioactive iodine just to be sure it is all killed. They say this does not make you sick or cause you to lose your hair or anything like that.

Don't you think it would be pretty cool to glow in the dark? I wonder how much electricity we could save if I could glow?

I did jokingly ask the doctor the same question. While he was very polite in his answer you could tell that he has heard it a million times before. And the answer is no, I won't glow. However, in all seriousness, I do have to avoid close contact with other people for 48 hours after taking the pills because it is "possible" to be slightly radioactive. Of course they are especially concerned about being around small children and pregnant women. We plan on doing this on a Friday so that I can go home after taking it and hibernate for the weekend.

There was a designer by the name of Christian on Project Runway who used the word fierce absolutely ALL the time and it became a running joke. Then they also had him make some clothes for Bravo Network's version of the Top Model game show and the people there starting using the word all the time.

Carol was this thing a good thing or a bad thing? I mean it's kinda bad since we won't see you but kinda good if your happy about it.

Hey everyone...

A quick in and out for me. It's been a rough couple days for me.

My audition went fine, but they apparently wanted someone else, as I did not get a callback. I realized the whole "pimping yourself" to prove to others that you're good enough "thang" is not for me. I don't like the fact that people judge you purely for 16-bars of music, and not on "who you are". The majority of the people in the holding room were conceited people who do these auditions probably daily...and have no care in the world for what it is...or what it entails...where as I have some sort of attachment to the position itself...anyway...it was a good experience...and that's that. I am still going to apply for other positions at Disney...and we'll go from there.
Thank you everyone for your support. It honestly means so much to me. I am still a bit upset (noone likes rejection), but I am a strong person, and knew going into it that I would take it simply as an experience. :mickey:

I got a call from my best friend's sister (who we call eachother brother and sister) and she told me she was beaten up by her ex last nite. It has taken all the strength I have to not purchase a flight today and fly over there myself and do something bad. It really hurts, especially when the victim is so close to you and you can't do anything productive to help. She's fine physically, but I worry about her emotionally and mentally. She doesn't want me to come out, but I consider her a member of my family...and not being able to do anything, knowing she's in pain has really taken its toll on me. To make matters worse, she does not want to report it for fear of what he will do if she does. Granted, she is from another culture completely, and this kind of thing is actually normal unfortunately...but regardless, it's wrong. I'm conflicted about what everything and I honestly don't know what to do.

On top of that situation, my best friend calls this morning, and tells me not to cash a check she gave me, because someone drained her account. How can all this happen to good people?? It's truly disgusting.

Sorry to hear about your loss Pogo...give Patty my deepest sympathy.
Emily, I talked to your sister earlier today, and don't worry, she's got a full-ride to JQU if she accepts. ;)

Pogo, we are so sorry about Patti and your loss...

Something has come up and we won't be able to go to WDW in Dec. So I just rescheduled everything for Oct. We decided this is how we wanted to spend our 10th anniversary.

Thanks....... now explain please ! What did Gilles do ??????

We are meeting up for the Pirate & Princess Party on the 23rd. See you then Mikki!
Hey Mary...... do me a favor ?????? Giv e the old girl a hug for me and maybe a tennis lesson too ! :D

Sorry to hear about Patti's uncle. You will both be in my prayers, as will the rest of her family. Give Patti a  from me, OK?
OK..... maybe two or three or more ! :D

Very serious, when I got home from work tonight I called Wendy at MJ and had her change my reservation. I'm still waiting to see if we still get POFQ. I'll probably get tickets for MNSSHP and we really want to to the food and Wine festival.

One more time..... what did Gilles do ????

Enterprise seems to have a cut off time of 5:30 which would mean we're out of luck with them. Any other car rental places out there that we could rent a car from and not have to worry about a cut off time?
There's also Hertz and Budget ! :D

How could you watch HGTV and not know it? HGTV is our go-to channel when there's nothing worth watching on the networks, which is often.

And our favorite... DIY ! :D

It's a good thing, I think that since I took 12 weeks of Wine Appreciation at the LCBO that the F & W Festival would be fun.

Would you believe he didn't do anything? It was me, with all the stress that I've been dealing with I needed to go away sooner. Plus we'll be going away our Thanksgiving weekend(Columbus Day) and it'll be less vacation time.

Wow, the exact same stuff happened to me today. What're the chances?

Today is a very busy day and I don't know if I'll be back on or not. I have a lot of work to complete and Uncle Kenny's funeral is this afternoon and family get together tonight. We leave early tomorrow for S.C. so if I don't get back, remember we love you all !

Good Morning JQ'ers, gee do ya'll think I picked that up from a certain T.V. personality? I might have.
The coffee is on it's hot and fresh also hot water for tea, hot chocolate/cocoa. And of course there always juice of the kind you want on hand. It's a bit crisp here and it's suppose to warm up to the 70's. Not a bad day for my only day off this week. I'm going to have to check out the other car rentals to see if they also have pick up times also.
Have a magical day

Carol that's such a bummer.....but as long as you're happy then we here are happy for you :mickey: Are you all ready for your recital coming up?

Greg thanks for the update. I can so relate to you on the whole audition process. Did you know my degree is in Theater??? I couldn't take the annoying people anymore...but I've been to similar auditions let me tell you. A lot of it is timing. I'm sure it was a learning experience for you. Just keep on truckin'! Sorry about the other situation as well. I'll try to get Molly to post in here...she's excited about the New England meet @ Papillon Park!

Pogo have an awesome trip. We'll try to hold down the fort without the Head Possumator here for a few days...though it might be a bit hard!

Happy morning! How's all the Fightin' Possums feeling today? I appear to be over the worse of my recent ills and am on the mend! I'm feeling sooo much better! And my eyes finally look better! Just a slight yellow tint left in them!

Pogo - you and Patti, and the family, will be in my thoughts and prayers today. Hugs to both of you! I'll also be thinking of you and praying for your traveling safety tomorrow! Hope you both have a wonderful trip! And no matter what Ken tells you - that fin heading toward you is not "just a dolphin" :dolphin::shark: :D

Greg - sorry to hear about the audition. You'll get'em next time! And sorry to hear about your other situations. I'm not good at advice, but I will say that you need to continue to let your friend know that you are there for her and that you love her.. let her know that she DOES NOT deserve the treatment she's getting and that it may appear to be 'normal' in her culture, but it's not RIGHT or LEGAL... I'll be praying.

Hope everyone has a great day today!

There was a designer by the name of Christian on Project Runway who used the word fierce absolutely ALL the time and it became a running joke. Then they also had him make some clothes for Bravo Network's version of the Top Model game show and the people there starting using the word all the time.
When I moved to my present location I lost the Bravo network. Can you believe we don't get it on campus??? I missed the entire Project Runway 4. But, with the talks of moving the show to Lifetime, which I do get, there's some hope!

No worries I shall be there when you come to visit. The fly out day is the 11th.

Morning all.... how's everyone doing this beautiful :sun: day?? I got up early and went outside gardening... nothing exciting, just weed-killing so I can then do some gardening... but hey, at least it's something!! And it felt so good to be outside so early!!

We've got friends coming over to "play" today... 4 little girs to entertain ours, and one of my best friends to scrap with! We'll probably take a break and go to the park for awhile... I'm just looking forward to a nice, relaxing day!

My baby's growing up! My oldest just got asked out on her first "official" date! (Wow, do I feel old!). Its someone DH knows well, so we are OK with it all, but wow does it feel weird! So she should be home by like 10:00, right??
Uh-oh... and so it starts.... can't say I'm looking forward to those days arriving!! I already don't get all the sleep I need....

Morning all.... sad news last night that Patti's favorite uncle died at around 6:00 PM last night and the funeral will be Wednesday afternoon. We had just found out on Sunday that he was in bad shape.

Pogo, I'm so sorry to hear that... hugs to you & Patti, and I hope things go well this afternoon.

Wanna guess who my first real date was with at age 14? .... my family knew him well too ..... and we celebrate 15 years of wedded something or other on Thursday!
Belated congrats to you guys!! What'd you do to celebrate?

My thoughts and best wishes go out to all the JQers that need it..and it seems like alot of us need it.
It has been a really rough month with the new job and getting everyone into a routine. I love my new job, it has been a long time since I have been able to say that about a job. Unfortunately what they did not tell me when I was hired is that for the first month or so I would be working 5 days a week instead of four. The regular schedule is four 10 hour shifts..but I have been working five 8's. Those 8 hr shifts have stretched to 10 hrs almost every day! Great for the money..horrible for the family.
My DH works 11am-11pm and has suffered since he can't get any sleep..my DS6 had March break and I was not able to spend any time with him. After grandma took him to the zoo he asked me.."Why don't you want to spend time with me anymore??" Felt that knife stabbing through my heart.
My poor 17 month old DD has had it the worst..she has had to go to daycare and hates it. She screams when my husband pulls into the parking lot. Last week she wound up with conjunctivitis, a sinus infection and an upper resp. infection..lovely. Then she reacted horribly to the antibiotics..and Tuesday was admitted to the hospital with dehydration..broke my heart to watch them try to start an IV..her veins kept blowing and she was beside herself..but had no tears due to the dehydration. I was ready to start the IV myself but they finally got one! She is home tonight and doing better but I am having mommy guilt! Has anyone else gone through this? Am I going to survive? I feel like I am going to have to give up this awesome job because my kids need me more..
I am sorry guys..I just had to vent..how depressing am I !???
Does anyone have copious amounts of sweets to share?

Did your DH do the right thing and get out his shot gun and start cleaning it in front of the young man ??? :D

DH doesn't have a shot gun. Maybe he should be more worried about me??

Today was pretty quiet - for tax day. No protests, no bomb threats, no building closure. How much fun is that??
OK so I spoke too soon. Seems somebody tried their best to set our building on fire last night. As luck would have it, brick doesn't burn too well, but the heat broke out a window, so it was extremely lucky that it didn't spread inside. Yep, all the loonies come out on April 15th - is there usually a full moon or what?

Tell Ben, I think it is wonderful to be in a play! I loved my experience with the stage ( in junior high and high school!) Is this a school or a little theater production?
My DD13 did several productions starting at age 5 - that were produced by a theater group out of LA, for hearing impaired kids. It was a wonderful experience for all of them, and really boosted their self confidence!

It's a school production and they're all really excited. He, unfortunately, got a frog in his throat this morning and is sounding more and more hoarse by the minute. I think I may have to make him some ginger tea (if he'll drink it).

Michelle, sorry to hear about your youngest's troubles adjusting. DS went to daycare since he was 6 months old and even at that, he would cycle in and out of separation anxiety. It is totally heartbreaking though, but usually they're just fine a few minutes after you leave.

T&G, I remember those days all too well. For a few years, my dept. was located in the same building as the NY office of the IRS so it was a double whammy of sorts (major accounting firm and IRS). Luckily, no one tried to set the building on fire... of course, the concrete barriers and police presence might have been a deterrent.

Random question: has anyone been to the Great Wolf Lodge?

Now I think I know what you to look like Ken and Frankie anyway. I've met Caroleh, and someone else, not sure who that was. I guess you all haven't noticed that extra little star by my user name huh?
Well anyway me thinking that budget car rental is the way to go it seems to be the lesser of the lot of them and you can pick the car up there at the airport just like a Hertz. Lolol

Congratulations on all the stars, Sandy !

Morning all, Coffee is on for those who want it.

Euan is better & Happy Anniversary to Jenn & Brian. My thoughts are with Richard at this time Jenn.

Actually, yes I do. Want to see a picture (http://travel.webshots.com/photo/1104777003027495723utFFaS)? Frankie is the one seated, and Ken is standing.
Actually, Frankie and I were in our super-secret spy disguises :spy: and those two guys were our cover. Frankie was diguised as the umbrella by the pool and I was disguised as the plant next to the tree.

Good morning all.......... Drummerboy.... here we come ! Are you excited ???? :D

We've already posted warnings all over Myrtle Beach and vicinity. :D

How cool was that ! The only pictures I've seen of Ken was one straight forward and one of his side at the post office ! Thanks ! :D
I asked them for a retake but they wouldn't do it.

Amazing how time flies. I don't have the shirt or the goatee that were in that picture any more. I do have the same almost-award-winning legs though.

Sandy, can you slide some coffee down this way?

Caroleh

Ken, did you post pictures of Pogo all over Myrtle Beach warning people of this suspicious character? Do you need pictures of him?:D

We've met, Sandy? I think it was T & G you met.

My sister and her family are dealing with some stuff right now, so I would appreciate any :pixie: and good thoughts you have to spare for them, and especially for her husband Richard. Thanks!

Not only do I provide baked goods/lunch/sweets but I've also got an endless supply of :pixie: - it adds an extra bit of sweetness, don't ya think? And Happy Annivesary today!

Later, gators! I have to pick Ben up from rehearsal. Did I tell you he's going to be in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory?

That's neat - what part is he playing?

Am I going to survive? I feel like I am going to have to give up this awesome job because my kids need me more..I am sorry guys..I just had to vent..how depressing am I !???Does anyone have copious amounts of sweets to share? You WILL survive!!!! (as will your family)...don't be sorry either - that's what we're here for  I'm glad your daughter is feeling better...and just give it time with the daycare. She will probably end up enjoying it and not wanting to go home. And I always have copious amounts of sweets.......help yourself to some coffee cake this AM!

Random question: has anyone been to the Great Wolf Lodge?

Not personally, but I remember reading someone's trip report on it here ages ago and it looked like a lot of fun

I guess you all haven't noticed that extra little star by my user name huh?

So...what's better - being a Senior Intercot Cast Member or a Cast Member at WDW??? ;)

Has anyone else gone through this? Am I going to survive? I feel like I am going to have to give up this awesome job because my kids need me more..
 Michelle! It is hard -- but I truly believe that the kids are better off for it. They learn how to think for themselves and get themselves together (like putting on their outdoor clothes, getting their shoes on themselves etc). That said, DS9 has been in daycare since he was 6mos old, and DS4 since he was 1 -- and I still get asked regularly "Are you staying with us today?" It tugs on the strings. The crying does stop almost as soon as you have left the building -- and think of how WONDERFUL the end of the day hug is when you pick them up? Harry still gives me a great big HUG! How soon until you can work 4 days per week? I work 4 days per week -- and having Wednesdays to do Mom stuff really relieves a lot of my "Mom guilt". We make the most of the time we do have together! :pixie: and a :marg: to get you through!

Thanks for the anniversary wishes ... and the well wishes for my BinL. You guys are great!

Ken -- batten down the hatches! There's trouble a brewing and he's headed your way! ;)

Sorry not to be contributing much here lately guys - been a bit busy with all the tasks that have to get done before we can escape to WDW. :mickey: Hey Mary - you will have to tell us about the work mysteries when we meet up next week.

Today was pretty quiet - for tax day. No protests, no bomb threats, no building closure. How much fun is that??:D (Did everyone get their taxes filed?????)

Taxes, Taxes? Were we suppose to do something with our taxes this week? :D:D

Hi all, I am just zooping in for a moment to see how everyone is doing today. I have been busy at the doctors yesterday and this morning in follow up to the the thyroid surgery and in preparation for the next back surgery that is finally scheduled for May 19. Lucky me!! As you can imagine with this being the eighth back surgery I am NOT looking forward to it.

One of the bad side effects of all these surgeries and long term usage of pain killers, besides the cost, is that I have built up such a tolerance to the pain med.s that things like morphine don't even phase me when I come out of surgery. They now have to give me a cocktail of pain killers to try to keep up after surgery. This also means that it becomes a vicious circle because the pain killers are less effective then they should so my pain levels are way off the chart which requires even more pain med.s. Hopefully this next surgery is successful and maybe I can get off of some of these things!

Just great!! We just got home from a trip to the park... it is so lovely out!! Hey guys, I found this on news website. Do you think we can get any of the ladies in our life to sign such a document? And don't tell the ladies but there is a version for them as well! I just had to post it!!:D

Be the perfect girlfriend…
By Jon Wilde Reese and Ryan fizzled out, Britney and K-Fed fell apart, and when the dust cleared, all that remained of each blessed union was a crisp pre-nup to divvy up the belongings. Which got me thinking, Why rely on a legal document to fix the end of a relationship when I can use one to create the ideal relationship? So here it is; my contract for the perfect girlfriend. Laugh at it if you will, ladies, but you are about to get some startling insights onto the male mind.

* View photos of singles in your area - FREE
* Meet nearby singles - See profiles & pics now
* Complete Chemistry's personality quiz & get matches

I, [print your name here] (heretofore referred to as “The Lady”), being of sound mind, have entered into a relationship with [print guy’s name here] (heretofore referred to as “The Man”). By signing below, I hereby agree to abide by all the rules as set out within this contract in perpetuity.

Clause 1: Dates
A. The Lady will eat more than a side salad.

B. The Man will not be expected to plan every date. He will be chivalrous, but he will not be the cruise director of the relationship.

C. If The Lady would like to attend an event that she knows The Man will despise, she is advised to do so with other people (See Clause 5: Extra-Curricular Activities). However, should she deem a night at the ballet, opera, or foreign movie house to be a necessity within the scope of the relationship, she should make plans (transportation, tickets, etc.) for this evening herself.

1. By accepting this Lady-partisan date, The Man will be guaranteed one (1) date on which both parties participate in an activity of his choice—including, but not limited to: Attending an athletic event, watching a martial-arts movie, or going out for a large BBQ dinner.

Clause 2: Dialogue
A. The Lady will never discuss an ex-boyfriend.

1. Rule 2-A above may be broken if The Lady mentions a deep and abiding flaw in the ex-boyfriend, while also discussing ways in which The Man betters said ex.

B. If The Lady wants something or wants to know something, she will ask. There will be no hints or guessing games.

C. Any cute nicknames that The Lady has devised for The Man will never be spoken in public. See Clause 6, Section a, Subsection 3 for explanation.

1. Furthermore, The Lady may not devise any nickname that includes a diminutive or that is spoken in baby-voice (e.g., “Little John” or “Snuggle Bear”).

Clause 3: The Bedroom
A. During moments of physicality, The Lady will voice her wishes so that The Man knows how best to make her enjoy the experience. This is expected not only for her sake, but for his. The Man is a prideful being. He wants to know he can do everything right.

B. The Man reserves the right to his favorite side of the bed at all times, no exceptions. He may permit The Lady to rest on his chosen side if he wishes, but should he find himself tossing and turning at 3 a.m., it is his right to reclaim said side with no ill will from The Lady.

Clause 4: Family
A. The Lady will not ask The Man to meet her family until at least one month of dating has been completed.

B. Upon meeting The Man’s mother, The Lady will try to learn as many of Mother Man’s recipes as possible. And yes, The Man likes his chicken that dry.

Clause 5: Extracurricular Activities
A. The Man will be guaranteed at least one Guys’ Night per week, chosen at his discretion. He will also retain at least two extra “floating” Guys’ Nights per month in case of an important sporting event or should an impromptu post-work visit to the bar arise.

B. The Lady can never be angry with a man for attending Guys’ Night.

C. The Lady will not call The Man more than once per Guys’ Night.

D. The Lady is encouraged to go out with her own friends as a means for keeping her independence and sense of self. However, there are ground rules for these engagements:

1. She will not ask The Man to attend any event on the day of a televised athletic match, any event that involves the phrase “pot luck,” or any event that celebrates the birth of a child, impending or otherwise.
2. She will not expect The Man to attend a gathering solely because the boyfriend/husband of The Lady’s Friend will also be in attendance. Misery does not make good company.
3. No. Ex-Boyfriends. Ever.

Clause 6: Love
A. Should the two parties remain together long enough to reach Relationship Level: Serious, The Man understands that he will, at some point, be called upon to vocally express his appreciation of The Lady in the strongest method possible. When the time comes, the following rules shall govern the use of Those Three Words Which Shall Not Yet Be Spoken.

1. The Lady will be the first party to speak the phrase. She will do so clearly and while making eye contact so that The Man knows it is he who is being spoken to. The Lady will allow the man at least five (5) minutes to respond in kind. This reprieve does not mean he doesn’t feel the same way, only that he is apt to be flustered, frightened, and suddenly stricken with cotton-mouth.
2. After the first time the Man arranges the words “I,” “you,” and “love” into a sentence, he will not be required to do so in response every time The Lady speaks the phrase. The Lady will also accept “Me, too,” “Ditto,” or a high-five in return.
3. The Lady will never speak the three-worded phrase when The Man is in the presence of either friends or co-workers. This is done out of respect for the mockery that is sure to result should he be forced to reciprocate while with said company.

By signing below, you agree to all rules as laid out in this contract, effectively guaranteeing that you will make The Man a truly happy person for the rest of his life, or until you realize that he is a loser who requires his girlfriends to sign legally binding documents.

So does your silence about everything else mean you would accept those terms if you were dating?:D:D As for wives, I think most of the same terms would probably apply!

Of course, I will have been married for 25 years come this October so I doubt I could get my wife to sign anything! As she keeps reminding me the only reason she doesn't throw me out on my backside is because she doesn't want anyone thinking bad of her for throwing out a sick person!!!:D:D

Hey everyone.... we made really good time today. We had a good road trip and arrived in Emporia, Va at around 4:30 PM. We thought about driving straight through to Southport and bunking with Ken and Mary, but figured Saturday's lunch would be way more than they could handle.

We checked into our motel, went to Walmart and bought a pizza at Domino's :ack: and returned to the room for some R&R.

5 in Pennsylvania, 1 in West Virginia.

Congrats on 3,000 posts, Sandy! :congrats:

So, Thursday night is my favorite night of the week for TV, and almost everything was pre-empted by storm coverage. All we got here was rain and some very small hail, but out west it was a lot worse with some really large hail.

Deb, I count bunnies on my walks around the neighborhood instead of counting possums. Actually, I've never seen a possum on any of my neighborhood walks although I know that my next door neighbors had some possums in their backyard for awhile.

I'm feeling better this evening. My voice was all raspy earlier, but it's finally cleared up.

:pixie: for the job situation, Mary.

So, I'm just home from work, and I'm sitting here catching up with some cheese & crackers & a glass of Shiraz... not my usual late-night, post-work snack, but I wasn't too happy as I left. We were busy, and both floors asked me to stay... I explained that I had no one to watch my girls and couldn't come back tomorrow night for 12hrs on no sleep... and I still got the "hairy eyeball" treatment for wanting to be able to get up tomorrow and spend the last day of Spring Break with my girls, and not nap my way through it and end up sick b/c I worked on no sleep. I totally understand the need for a floor to be staffed - but I also believe family comes first, and no one should question a person's need to be home with their children, or to be able to sleep after staying up all night and then returning for 12 more hours. Sigh... so, instead of sleeping, I'm here calming my frayed nerves... b/c yes, I do feel bad leaving them in a lurch -- but I was only supposed to be 4hrs for someone, and I can't help the fact that it got busy. Sigh!! :(

So - if anyone's up -- would you like a glass of wine??

Blythe I guess normal tests are good even if you do need meds right?

Absolutely... if the meds help, and that's all I've got to do -- sign me up!!

Congrats on 3K, Sandy!

Happy anniversary, Pogo and Patti! Why did you go to Dominos when you could have had possum for dinner? I'm sure Jym would have been able to send you a recipe (or at least pointed you in the direction of the nearest Cracker Barrel).

Which Great Wolf Lodge are you thinking of?
The Poconos one. They even had directions to it from Windsor/Detroit on their website. So you're invited... I'm thinking of having Ben's 13th birthday party there and bring up some boys from his class and another mother.

We are supposed to have snow this weekend! No lie! Don't laugh - those of you to the east will likely get that same cold front sometime next week! :D
My condolences on the snow (oh, I forgot... you like the stuff). And I'll take the cold front as long as it holds off until Thursday to arrive. Ben's going on a three day retreat, that starts on Monday. And for those of you who asked, he'll be Mr. Bucket (Charlie's dad), in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

I kept him home from school today. He was coughing a LOT and woke up with no voice. It wasn't a decision made lightly either... I had to spend the entire day at the hospital today and he would be home alone. Good news though: his voice is back AND both my EKG and ultrasound were normal (whew).

I received a tea making machine from my manager this week, so I'll have a pot of tea on in the a.m. for anyone who would like some. Tomorrow it will be Irish Breakfast (on the label it says it's the "expresso" of teas). Who would like a cup?

Are apossums(sp) long legged or short legged critters? And are they long bodied are short?
I wonder what animals live in the area of the road I take to work, because they have a ferret/weasel kind of look about them. I actually saw a fox one morning as I was on my way out to work. I think it was a red fox, but I'm not sure now. :D
There's a bunny population around here also.
Or I'm seeing the same bunnies on the other side as well? :D That could be.

:D When you think about it , remember she has macular degeneration and it seems a bit odd. I told the artist my mom's story and the artist is supposed to have something there for her. I sure hope so, so she won't feel left out.:(

Pogo, continue to drive safely. And watch out for Possums! :D

T&G enjoy your snow.

Sandy now that you mention it I don't know what a possum looks like either. And congrats on your new stars.

Irish Breakfast is strong tea Ellen, it's sure no ginger/green tea that's for sure. The idea of the lodge will sure appeal to my guys so tell me more when you get closer.

I'm glad your tests went well Ellen and that Ben is feeling better.

Sorry you had such a crummy day/night Blythe. T & G are they finished airing out yet or are they hoping the snow will help?

One of the bad side effects of all these surgeries and long term usage of pain killers, besides the cost, is that I have built up such a tolerance to the pain med.s that things like morphine don't even phase me when I come out of surgery. They now have to give me a cocktail of pain killers to try to keep up after surgery. This also means that it becomes a vicious circle because the pain killers are less effective then they should so my pain levels are way off the chart which requires even more pain med.s. Hopefully this next surgery is successful and maybe I can get off of some of these things!
Hang in there pal! I was on two different meds for three months and spent the fourth month trying to come off them. That's nothing compared to what you must be going thru. I feel for ya, bud! Keep the faith.

Good news though: his voice is back AND both my EKG and ultrasound were normal (whew).

Great news, Ellen!

Did you know that tomorrow is Friday?
Nuh-uh, it's today. :D

Are apossums(sp) long legged or short legged critters? And are they long bodied are short?

I like to think of the armadillos I see laying on the Florida roadsides as possums with armor. Speaking of which, the first time we ever camped at FW, an armadillo came to visit us.

And you've heard the joke: Why did the chicken cross the road? To show the possum it could be done.

Hope every one has a wonderful Friday. Tomorrow, Myrtle Beach will be ground zero when the Pogos and Drummerboys meet.

Oh, did I mention that my oldest son will be going to see the Pope tomorrow? That's cool -- He'll remember it for sure too! When I was 17 we got "tickets" for a Papal audience when we were in Italy on holiday. I'm not even Catholic, and I thought it was way cool. I received a tea making machine from my manager this week, so I'll have a pot of tea on in the a.m. for anyone who would like some. Tomorrow it will be Irish Breakfast (on the label it says it's the "expresso" of teas). Who would like a cup?
:) I'm so glad to hear the results were normal!!

And I'll take a cup of that Irish Bkfst tea, please... it's my favorite!!

Good luck to Ben - that is SO cool that he's in the play! I hope his voice is feeling better...

Have fun tomorrow... I bet it'll be a really fun day for you guys. And get pictures, okay??

I hope you're all having a great day... the wine & a good night's sleep did the trick and I'm over my angst from work. Of course, I'm headed back in tonight, but hey - you gotta do what you gotta do!

It's beautiful and sunny and warm outside today... perfect spring weather. I finished some raking this morning and although my arms hurt, it was so quiet and peaceful... the birds were out, but that was about it. The girls are out now, enjoying it... we're headed off to see my mom and our movie in a little bit.

Have a wonderful day, all -- I'll see you later!!

A couple of years ago when I was getting ready to have another of my many back surgeries I had to go cold turkey off of the Oxycontin I had been taking for about 3 years at that time. That was one of the worst weeks I have ever had!! I had hot flashes then cold flashes. I also had tremors and was hallucinating for about 48 hours in the middle of it. This all happened during Thanksgiving week so my two oldest were home from college and my youngest was home as well. That gave them a real good understanding of why they need to stay away from illegal drugs!!

Oh, did I mention that my oldest son will be going to see the Pope tomorrow? He will be attending a function at a seminary in a NYC suburb with his Youth Group. How cool is that?

Man that is so great!! I would love the chance to see the Pope in person even if it were from the cheap seats at Yankee Stadium!!

And you've heard the joke: Why did the chicken cross the road? To show the possum it could be done.

:funny: You are really on today aren't you?

I heard an earthquake hit IL today.

The epicenter of the quake was about 40-50 miles due west of where we live and work. There were actually two quakes about 10 miles apart that happened within seconds of each other so it felt like one big quake! Both quakes registered at 5.2 on the Richter scale. We had a few things fall off shelves at home and a few of our mascot heads fell off their shelf at my wife's costume store. We also had some cracked concrete in the basement floor. Fortunately even for those right at the epicenter the damage was minimal and there have been no serious injuries.

Needless to say everyone in town got an early start to their day because the quake happened about 5:30 this morning. When I woke up and realized what was going on my first fear was that this was the big quake that they have been predicting for the New Madrid fault. Fortunately this happened in the Wabash Valley fault line so it was not as intense as they say the New Madrid one will be when it finally lets go.

The whole thing was so scary because we so rarely get earthquakes around here. We didn't time it, but general consensus is that the quake lasted about 30 seconds. Oh, and we also had an aftershock about 11:15 that registered 4. I was sitting in a chair at the doctor's office and everything in the room starting dancing around!

Now Pogo dear are these sightings are umm the ones that didn't get away in time.

So what do you guys drink when it's really cold outside and you want to warm up?
Hopefully it won't be cold around these parts until next October, but when it's cold I usually drink hot tea or just warm coke. Not a coffee drinker.

Quite true, Ken. However, the hardest part I find is that there's no one saying, "hey, it's time to quit and go home already."

For the evening crowd, only fine wines, cordials and light fare (like tapas). I can teach knitting and digital scrapbooking (Carol and Blythe can teach the "tactile" scrappers ;) ). Oh, and can we have a book club?

We saw Nim's Island also yesterday. Both really liked it... lots to say about courage and faith.

You know, even if they are in the middle of the road and look like they have crossed over it is still possible they are not. One of a possum's defense mechanisms is to fake being dead. That is where the term "playing possum" came from. And yes, I did read that in this case they had already crossed over.

You must have stolen our warm weather! We were sunny and mid 70's the last few days and today is Grey, rainy, and a high of 55! tomorrow is suppose to be about the same. I guess that means it is a weekend!

I have a long length of rope, if you can get Chad here without him knowing what is going on the hanging can be arranged!:D:D

Oh, wait, darn, I just re-read your sentence and you said you DON'T want to hang Chad!! Oh well, I guess I will just have to make a lariat out this rope and use it to catch me some possums for dinner!:D:D

Have I told you about the time our dear Great Dane brought in a 'present' from the back yard and laid it at our feet? I got a shovel and scooped it up, knowing how those critters will play dead (have you ever seen the set of teeth they have?). I saw one eye open and close very quickly as I carried it outside to dump it over the fence into a small patch of woods next door.

Your story reminded me of an episode we had with a VERY live possum in a garage about 6 years ago. At that time we were moving to our current house. At the old house we had this old corn crib that my sons and I had moved from a farm and remodeled into a nice storage shed.

Since we were in the process of moving everything out of the storage shed we left the overhead garage door open while we took a load over to the new house. When we came back my oldest son who was probably 12 or 13 at the time went into the building to get some more things while I sorted out the tarps and such. All of a sudden I heard a hiss and my son saying oh **** while he flew out of the building and hopped on the back of the truck in one leap! He immediately started hollering for his little brother who was about 5 or 6 at the time to get on the truck NOW!

After I got done laughing at him I asked what was up and he replied that there was a possum in the storage shed. To make a long story short we got a very quick lesson in how many large, sharp teeth a possum has!! We tried many different things to coax it out but it just wouldn't leave. We finally ended up having one person move things while the other held a shovel and kept the possum at bay until we finished loading! When we were done we just left the door open figuring that the possum would eventually just leave on his own.

When we came back the next day to hand over the keys to the new owners I explained why the shed door was open. When we walked back there we found that sure enough, the possum had taken off over night!

Is it any wonder my eldest son now has a phobia about possums?

Just checking in because I probably won't until I return from WDW.

Have a great trip Mary!!!!

Congrats Nat! I hope the new job is everything you are looking for!

DD16 just left on her date. Anybody want to stay up and keep me company until she gets home?

Natalie - I'm glad you decided and it does seem like you made the right decision. It should be interesting to hear the tales of your new position. I hope you'll still be able to post as much as you do during the week!

Cindi I'm glad the date went well and that you approve of the lad

Have I told you about the time our dear Great Dane brought in a 'present' from the back yard and laid it at our feet? I got a shovel and scooped it up, knowing how those critters will play dead (have you ever seen the set of teeth they have?). I saw one eye open and close very quickly as I carried it outside to dump it over the fence into a small patch of woods next door.

OMG :sick::sick::ack: That is just so darn FREAKY!!!!!!!!!!!

How's everyone's Saturday?

It's going great so far...we're headed to the IMAX theater soon...then to shop and have dinner out. I hope everyone is having a lovely day as well....

I wonder if Pogo and Ken are hitting it off? :D

She came home with a smile on her face! The young man is a really nice guy.

Yah, but you can kinda tell by the "thickness". Smashed is good indicator that they are not playing possum.:D

Well - last weekend we were at 78. Today its only 34. We are expecting snow or rain/snow mix, and record lows tonight and tomorrow night. :freeze:

Good to hear that your daughter had a good time! We have two children in college so we are past that first date thing with them but we have a fifth grade boy who is just starting to change from hating girls to deciding they may have something of their own to contribute!

As for the possum, I agree that thickness is a pretty good indicator. Have you ever actually run over one of the poor things? I am the kind of person who brakes for birds, squirrels and any other critters that might be in the road so it is really hard on me when I do actually hit one!

I have only done this twice, but in both cases I didn't have time to slow down nor could I swerve to miss them. So brainy me decides that if I straddle them so I don't run over them with the tires then they will be fine. In both cases as I passed over them I heard this horrible double thump sound from underneath the vehicle and when looking in the rear view mirror I saw them laying there in the middle of the road and I knew they had crossed over!

And finally about the weather, I think I will keep what we are having. Yours sounds much yuckier! Everything is in full bloom around here so any talk about snow or freezing weather is just not a good thing for us!

 Strictly roadkill and must be recognised to be counted ! Didn't you know that ??

Thanks Mary.... have a safe and wonderful trip and tell :mickey: I said :hi:

My possum count on the way into work this morning was 1. As we say here in Michigan it was getting a tan in the middle of the road.

Will do pogo! :mickey:

Didn't you know that new trip reports constitute our Disney fix for each day that we can't go there? We would love to see a trip report!

Thanks, will do!

Have a great trip Mary - I wish I was going with you!!

You're right I should be packing, but I am stuck here at work until 5pm. We are slow because it's a nice day outside. Plus I have to do :laundry2: when I get home and then pack.

I'm almost done packing so I know how Mary feels. I woke up with a cold this morning so I was not happy about that. Tomorrow morning we drive to the airport and then Monday we fly out to WDW! Can you tell I'm excited? ;)

Got several meets planned - should be seeing Mary, Ellen, Jeanne, Jerry and Diane and hopefully Ed (nothing fixed yet) at various times. Ellen is being brave enough to come and stay at Mystic Dunes with us :D Also meeting up with some non-Intercot friends. It's a good job we are extremely flexible in our plans - we just keep saying yes when someone says shall we add you to our ADR

I have an AP for Sea World and their new water park, aquatica as well as for WDW so I will be exploring a bit further afield than usual.

Ellen, thanks for the business card offer, I'm not sure how much freedom I get with that as it's a consultant with a firm but when I know more you'll be the first on my list to discuss it with.

I did get a new phone, but not a "smartphone" it's a dual flip however with the qwerty keyboard. Kinda cool. I'll pick out some equivelent to a blackberry etc in the next couple of months but need to research them more. Does anyone have any faves?

Pogo/Ken can't wait to hear about your adventures. Carol & Mary sorry the stores were slow today. Hope the packing goes well.

Emily I'm sure I'll still be posting as I tend to multi task and keep it on a window that I pop into when I'm on hold etc..plus I'll have a laptop and be able to wifi so that should help.

Hi all... just zooping in before bed to see how everyone's day was! Dan and I just finished our first of the season margaritas on the screened-in porch... spring is officially in full swing!! :marg:

Well, the owners and all their stuff is gone... we ended up with a new chiminea and an aluminum, extendable ladder out of the deal... they just couldn't fit everything in their truck!! Pity.... They're a really nice couple, and we enjoyed meeting them a lot. Nice to know we're buying from folks we like!

After they left, I "got after" the storage room they'd built and after dismantling some old shelving (how come no one ever told me how stress-relieving it can be to break things apart with a sledge hammer??? ;)) I painted the walls and the floor so we could move stuff in there... that'll be tomorrow's project. (Dan, the love of my life, was out on the links for his first run of the season... 80 degrees and sunny, how could I say no??? :))

I loved that trilogy. Can I take part in our store/cafe too? Can we serve breakfasts and yummy soups for lunch? And then afternoon tea (with lovely china and yummy scones)? For the evening crowd, only fine wines, cordials and light fare (like tapas). I can teach knitting and digital scrapbooking (Carol and Blythe can teach the "tactile" scrappers ). Oh, and can we have a book club?

We saw Nim's Island also yesterday. Both really liked it... lots to say about courage and faith.

Absolutely!! You can do the baking... as much as I love it, you're far more accomplished at it than I, I think!! And a book club is an excellent idea!!

I agree... my girls want to buy it when it comes out, and I think I agree.

So - did you go mini-golfing today??

I just have time for a quick zoop myself. So here's the story !

Patti and I arrived at Barefoot Landing at 11:00 AM for our 2:00 PM meet with Drummerboy and Mary. Can you tell we were excited ?????

We walked around the whole thing and eventually ended up sitting in a couple of rocking chairs near the back door of Fire Island.

At about 1:40 we see them. Walking and looking. I smiled and waived and the fun began.

Lunch was wonderful and the conversation was great. After we decided to hang out for a while so we walked and shopped and had fun just getting to know each other.

Now in my opinion, Ken is as fine as they come and Mary is a sweetheart. We've become good friends and we're looking forward to seeing them in December.

It could possibly be allergies, but I'm guessing its stress. I got rid of it, then 4 hours later when the med wear off, BOOM, its back. Guess I will have to live on meds for awhile, since I know the stress isn't going anywhere.

Usually they do. I was suppose to be in back and she decided to change the formation today. Instead of being staggered we're going to do a V formation. One of the girls that was suppose to be in front of me takes really big steps and blocks me off(which really doesn't bother me)..this is also my second recital, but I'm still taking beginners class. I'm not musically inclined at all and don't know a down beat from an upbeat or a chord, so this is all very interesting. The song we're doing this year is Akon's Shake your Body, so I'm trying to figure out where I need to be by which lyric.

Happy Monday. Wow, I'm so far behind in this thread... I'm finally fully recovered. My eyes look and feel great once again!

Pogo - sounds like you are having a great time in MB! Glad you and Ken hit it off. Great picture! Though I was expecting to see a couple of mug shots :D.

I was looking at Dog the Bounty Hunter's website and it said something about him rushing off to Myrtle Beach to apprehend a couple of fugitives in that area... something about them being wanted for spilling drinks, drumming their fingers on everything and anything and talking only in questions...

Nat... congrats on your new business adventure! Good luck!

Safe travels to Mikki/Andrew and Figaro and to um, I think it is Mary? who's also taking off?

Hmmm.. can't remember anything else I skimmed over... anyone think I should do a better job in reading and catching up on the thread? If I missed anyone who had highlights or lowlights that they shared I'm sorry! Hugs to everyone!

Hello all! So was anyone else shaken awake again this morning about 1:10am Eastern Time? I don't know if it was an aftershock to last week's big quake or if this was a new quake all on its own. We have had several hard shakes since the first one and while they have said that most of them were aftershocks they did say that at least one of them was a new quake. While this one did not last as long nor was it as intense as the first one or the second true quake the day after the first one this one was still strong enough to knock things off the shelves again!

I don't know about the rest of you but when my bed is rocking about the bedroom on its own and things are falling off the walls/shelves then in my mind that is an earthquake regardless of what the "officials" call it!

I realize that those of you who live in places like Southern California get quakes like this all the time and so it is no big deal. However, in my 46 years I have only felt one other quake in this area and it was so minor that no one was sure that was what it was until we got the OFFICIAL word from the USGS. Since we are not use to the ground shaking like this it is really starting to get on our nerves.

Jasper, after living in SoCal and also in Central America (my first office there was on the third floor of a building that lost its top floors to an earthquake in 72), take solace in the fact that a lot of "little" tremors are a whole lot better than one big one!

The way it sounded today at practice is like I'm getting moved to the front row instead of the back. YIKES!!!
Wow, Carol! I'm impressed... first that parade that Bethany saw in Manhattan and now the first row for your recital!

After a fun (not) transportation-related morning, I'm ready to finally get to work. Does anyone have some high-octane coffee for me?

Are you sure you didn't get the rv airborne and break the sound barrier which caused last nights shake?

In all seriousness what is so freaky about these quakes and aftershocks is that they usually start with a loud boom and then the shaking starts. The officials at the USGS say that happens here in the mid west because the ground is so solid compared to areas out west like SO. Cal. The result is that our quakes start much deeper in the ground so when the power of the quake actually reaches the surface it causes this boom just before the shaking starts. They say that in So. Cal. the ground is much more broken up beneath the surface which means that quakes happen much closer to the surface and don't have the ability to travel as far as they do here in the middle part of the country. This solid ground is also why a size 7 or 8 quake like happened back in 1811 and 1812 creates devastation on the scale of a size 10 or 11 in So. Cal.

Yep! We're having the first Friday Fun Day this Friday. It's an idea I came up with and took to the HR dept who LOVED it.. she then took it to the Pres. who loved it also! Every month we'll choose a Friday, choose a theme then do something fun. This month's theme is celebrating the start of baseball season! We get to wear our favorite major league team jerseys/shirts, and we're having a grill out. I've arranged for hot dogs, brats, baked potato salad, steakhouse macaroni salad, chips, and desserts! Does that tempt you at all?

Hmmmmm.... maybe you have been putting too much oompah into your band and THAT is what's causing the tremors in our area? Don't beat your oompah drum so hard and let's see if that helps...

Sounds like a fun place to work! Isn't it nice when your employer has a sense of humor and is willing to let the employees decide for themselves what makes them happy at work?

I had about a 15 year career in Human Resources that covered three different companies.

The first company where I spent about 8 years in Human Resources had the kind of attitude that your company seems to have and despite relatively low wages the employees were happier than you would expect because of all the little extra's that the company did for them.

Then I was wooed away by another company who more than doubled my salary, made me a part of their executive committee, etc. Despite relatively high pay the morale at this company was very low. I was actually very happy when I was downsized by this company because it just wasn't fun to be there.

Then I went to work in Human Resources at a national home improvement chain for two years before my continuing decline in my back forced me to take disability. That company had good intentions to provide the extras that improve morale but it was so formalized that every store had to do everything the same way and at the same time, etc. Needless to say this one was in the middle of the other two, you had some fun at work but felt that it was being rammed down your throat.

The moral of my story is that when you have a company that is willing to listen to your ideas you should think long and hard about leaving such a company. Unless, of course, there is some other grossly bad problem.

We went up to Wilmington early to go by Staples and then eat before band. About the time we were getting done dessert :tasty: the sky started turning black (no, it wasn't late enough for nighttime yet). We just got back into the car in time for the sky to fall as we drove toward band practice. Lightning popping everywhere, dime-size hail, torrents of rain. We got to the practice hall and several others were waiting in their cars for it all to let up. Most everybody else went in, but since DW is a walking lightning rod, with the steel rods in her back, we opted out and came back home.

I checked the top of the car for hail damage, but I think the layer of dirt protected it. :D

Then again, our ground isn't shaking, so I'm thankful. I just hope it quits shaking in Indiana.
See, aren't you all glad you didn't go to practice with me after all?

As a matter of fact, no we don't have strict building codes which is why if we do ever get the big one it is really going to be devastating! The reason we don't have strict codes is because big quakes are so infrequent. Modern seismograph equipment has only been used since something like the mid 1950's and in that time the largest quake recorded in the Midwest was a 5.4 and that was in something like 1968. Unfortunately it is probably going to take the big one to get people to do something about it.

Fortunately, we live in a log home which by the nature of their construction are generally pretty earthquake proof. And I have also strapped down my water heater and furnace so I am in about as good of shape as I can be.

Did I tell you that after the second quake on Friday (I think that is the correct day) that we found a small leak in the gas line just where it goes into the shut off valve? The leak was outside and was a very small leak so it was not horribly dangerous. Fortunately the gas company responded in less than an hour and fixed so it turned out to not be a big deal. But, it does prove why you should always check everything closely after any kind of incident like we have been having. I do also keep a wrench by the gas meter to shut it off in case of a leak inside the house. However, the shutoff valve would not have done any good in this case because the leak was in front of and not after the shut off.

I checked the top of the car for hail damage, but I think the layer of dirt protected it. :D
See, aren't you all glad you didn't go to practice with me after all?

Are you sure you weren't driving my car? I have the exact same layer of protection and it drive my wife absolutely crazy because she grew up with a father that hand washed his car once a week regardless of what else was going on and up until the last couple of years of his life he also waxed his car once every two weeks.

One time many years ago my wife and I took my FIL and MIL to Disney World and Florida in general for a 10 day trip. Since my FIL had an Oldsmobile that was only 6 months old he volunteered to let us use his car as long as we promised to either go someplace where he could either hand wash the car on Saturday of our trip or at the very least that we would go through an automatic car wash! To make matters worse the particular Saturday that we were in Florida was his normal wax weekend which really messed up his schedule! My MIL came to the rescue and "convinced" him that it would not be the end of the world if he skipped waxing it just that one time! Don't get me wrong, I had the greatest in laws anyone could have but my wife and I still laugh about having to get the car washed while on vacation!

While we were driving my FIL was also watching the odometer because the car had not had its first oil change at 3000 miles. Needless to say when the odometer happened to get to about 2980 while we were in St. Petersburg FL, he made sure that we found an Oldsmobile dealer and had the oil changed! Needless to say with the great care my FIL took with vehicles they always looked and ran like new even when they had many miles on them!

As for sitting in the vehicle waiting out the storm, I have feeling that any time spent with you would be tons of fun!

We've only seen some drops of rain this whole time in SC.

After all the heavy rains the last 4 months or so we have been blessed since about last Thursday with bright sunny days with temps anyplace from 60 to 80 degrees!
