Apr. 1, 1924 – Disney’s Alice’s “Spooky Adventure” was released.
Apr. 1, 1938 – Disney’s Silly Symphony cartoon “The Moth and the Flame” was released.
Apr. 1, 1946 – Animated Frank Thomas returned to work at the Disney Studio after serving 4 years in the Army Air Corps.
Apr. 1, 1950 – Episode 28 of The Ed Wynn Show aired on TV. Wynn’s variety show featured the “Firehouse Five Plus Two,” a Dixieland band made up of Disney employees. (Wynn would go on to play Uncle Albert in the 1964 “Mary Poppins.”
Apr. 1, 1960 – Reader’s Digest ran an article “Walt Disney’s Magic Kingdom.” The article describes Disneyland – Walt’s “31-million-dollar playground.”
Apr. 1, 1962 – The Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color aired “Spy in the Sky.”
Apr. 1, 1976 – Discovery Island reopened at WDW replacing Treasure Island with the addition of a walk through aviary, exotic flora and fauna, and a snack bar.
Apr. 1, 1996 – Disney’s “Aida” premiered for Disney executives at the New Amsterdam Theatre in N.Y.C. Disney execs thought of changing the name to “Elaborate Lives”, but stuck with the original name
Apr. 1, 2007 – The Travel Channel aired a marathon of Disney-related programs. Featured specials included “Ultimate Walt Disney World,” “Disney’s Imagineers,” “Disneyland Behind-the-Scenes,” “Undiscovered Walt Disney World,” and “Disney Cruise Line.” Also shown were the series of Great Hotels hosted by Samantha Brown which fearures Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Animal Kingdom Lodge, Yacht and Beach Club Resorts, and Wilderness Lodge.
Apr. 1, 2007 – Starting on this day at WDW, Mr. And Mrs. Easter Bunny appeared daily in the Tour Guide Garden at the Magic Kingdom. They would help celebrate the holiday for the next 8 days.
