We are planning a trip in September and have found cheap airfare to Sandford/Orlando airport with alligant air- 59.00 each way. We can pay a little more and fly with airtran directly into Orlando - The cost once we pay transportation to our resort or rent a car will be about the same. I like the idea of having a rental car- but we are doing the dining and it is not necessary...What's the consensus on my situation? We have two young children (7 and 4)- are there any really great deals on car rentals??:look: Also I am fearful that gas prices will raise airfare so I feel a little rushed to make the choice????

You don't say where you are from, but if you are staying on Disney property and fly into MCO (Orlando International Airport,) you can use Disney's Magical Express to get back and forth from the airport to your resort and there is no additional charge.

Yes, but the flight that takes you directly to Orlando MCO leaves at the wrong time for us and costs a good bit more that the Alligant that flyes into the Sandford/Orlando airport. Magical Express does not go to Sandford/Orlando... see my problem...

I'm not sure if you've seen this post (http://www.intercot.com/discussion/showthread.php?t=128703), but it's somewhat similar to your situation regarding traveling with young kids, so you might want to read the replies there.

georger, we are hoping to fly allegiant air too. However, the website says they are only accepting reservations thru 8/31. Is there somewhere else to book to get access to dates in September?

We flew allegiant air from kinston nc to sanford in february. It was 34.00 round trip per person! We rented our car from alamo, and that worked out well. If you book your car as a package with your allegiant air flight, you'll save a great deal. Feel free to PM me with any questions!

We just returned from WDW and flew Allegiant from Des Moines into Orlando/Sanford. We absolutely LOVED it! We got in at about 10pm. We had our luggage and were in our town car in LESS THAN 10 MINUTES!!! You can't do that at MCO.
We've always used our own ground transportation (Happy Limo, usually) so renting a car isn't really an issue. We find it's so much nicer not to have to deal with driving to/from the airport...just let someone else worry about it.

Thanks again- I think we will fly with allegiant ... You're right September flights are not on their website yet but we were basing our cost on the Aug. prices. Wonder if you could call them for an idea about September prices??? We will be flying out of Greenville/ Spartanburg SC???...Anyway thanks again for everyone's help and input!

I am in a similar situation where I live. Greensboro airport has Alegiant into Sanford and flights are relatively cheap. It would be a hit or miss to make that decision. It is 1:15 to get to Greensboro vs 0:20 to get to RDU. This is an extra hour each way to the airport. Then, add the time and cost difference from Sanford vs MCO, it would have to be a big price difference for me to make that decision. Plus, Alegiant only has one flight per day. So, if something happens, I would be screwed.

WE flew into Sanford in December and it wasn't that bad. It's a good 40-45 minute drive to WDW though. We used Murray Hill Transportation and would definitely recommend them. They will beat any other price you may find.

Hi, any time you save at the Sanford Airport will be consumed by the 45 minute to 60 minutes trip to your hotel in Orlando. Personally I'd deal with the time problems and fly direct. But, it's up to you. Have fun

when renting a car frrom the Sanford airport, only certain companies will allow you to drop off the car before they officially open.
My wife and I found a great rate but we're unable to take advantage of it b/c our flight leaves at 8:10am on a Fri. morning and the company's lot wasn't officially open until 8am. They didn't have any provisions for early drop-off
Be sure to ask when making rental car reservations if the company has provisions for early drop-off, don't assume they do.
