Just curious about "contributors"

Just curious and have been meaning to ask for a while...

Why are some people listed as "contributors" under their user names? Does that mean they're employees of Intercot or something else?

We donated money to Intercot's Server Drive last year. We were given that designation,and some got personal Avatars!
