What was the date that Disney started charging for the no-expiration option for park passes. Are all old passes purchased before that date still good?

Old passes that still have days on them should still be good. We have some 5 day passes that still had a day left from 2004. We checked at the guest relations (or whatever it is called) at the entrance to MK and they told us they were still good. The CM even told me that they would upgrade my son's child tkt (he was 7 in 2004) to an adult so he could use it when we decided to.
