Does anyone else think the giant mural at the Contemporary is dated and ugly?

What, you don't think it's contemporary? ;)

I've never really cared for it, but it's a classic. I'm not sure how I'd feel if they changed it.

Not at all, its the largest mosaic in the world. That alone will make it pass the test of time.

It was supposed to be a contemporary piece of art when the resort first opened. Now it's kind of retro. It should always be a part of the building

Mary Blair's mosaic mural?!?!? :faint::stop: No, it should always be there.

I really like it. I can't wait to stay there this year so I can pull up a chair and study it a little more (maybe find the three legged goat). I think it's somewhat gaudy but so are a lot of things at the Contemporary. :)

I didn't like it until Mary Blair passed away, and I did some reasearch into her artwork. She was amazing! So now I have a soft spot for it.

It's a classic just like the Contemporary and the Poly.It has to stay forever.

While it seems to be a bit outdated it would not be the Contemporary if it was not there. I can not imagine it being gone. I do like to look at it, it is just special.

It's not three legs, it's five. See him here (http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/t70/AzuraFrost/5legsgoat.jpg) (sorry it's blurry)!

It may look a bit dated but its a mural by a Disney Legend. Two of her other murals were lost years ago and this one remains at WDW. Its got to stay as a work of art by one of the Disney greats.

I love that mural!!! Its a classic that brings me back to my childhood and fond memories of taking the monorail to MK (which at that time was WDW).

I couldn't imagine it being gone. I am not a huge fan of the Contemporary, but I have wonderful memories of it from staying there as a child. Losing that mural would be like losing part of my past.

agreed. It's a classic and has to stay. I like it. Maybe it is dated and gaudy, but I always enjoy seeing it.

I agree--the mosaic may look a bit retro now, but it is a work of art and should be left in place.

I agree with a lot of others. It's a classic. Gottta keep it.

I actually think the Contemporary itself is retro now, and the mosaic fits right in.

 I love it!

I like Mary Blair's work- and this mural is terrific.

And I enjoy pointing out the 5 legged goat to newbies!

My family took a good long look at the mural this past December when we visited the Contemporary. It is very unique and interesting to look at. While I don't particularly love it, I don't think the Contemporary would be quit the same without it.

Art and craft work is not dated because it is old. The mural is an incredible piece and I am amazed each time I see it. :mickey:

I agree with the majority here. I can not imagine going to the contemporary and not see it there. It would definitely just not be the same. I try to go to the Contemporary every visit to Disney, remember staying there as a child and one will stay there again in the tower.

I remember that mural from when I was a small child. They can never do away with it. It is what makes the Comtemporary. Even to this day we point out the 3 legged goat!! It's a great piece, and I for one hope it never goes away.

So... this topic got me thinking about Mary Blair and I did a little research and found some pictures of her murals HERE (http://www.yesterland.com/maryblair.html).

Neat-o. Personally, I like the art, but I do see what you mean. It may not be contemporary but it is Contemporary, if ya know what I mean. I do enjoy it and look forward to seeing it everytime I sail through on the monorail. :mickey:

It's got 5 legs, not three. :D

To be perfectly honest, I have always loved that mural and thought at the same time, "what kind of crazy drug induced this???" With that said, every time that I'm riding that wonderful monorail and we pull into the contemporary I'm always looking for it. If they were to take it down, the contemporary might start looking like a Howard Johnsons or something.

Keep the mural, but don't stare at it too long.

Well, I guess it's OK. But whenever we go to the Contemoroary I look up and think WOW. And I still think it's interesting to see the five-legged goat.:D
