So, does anyone plan to use some of their tax rebate check money at WDW? The President is supposed to discuss this at 11:45AM today. Just wondering.

I just saw the news but wasn't paying that much attention with four kids home from school today!

What are the details about the rebate? Didn't we get a rebate a few years ago? Hmmmmmm......I could buy a couple of airline tickets for April (we still have our timeshare reserved) :D

Some of you may remember 3-4 years ago the President and Congress did a tax rebate check when they made tax cuts retroactive. Same thing again this time. They would send something like $500/individual or $1000/couple (the exact amount was still being negotiated) to each family. Some had even suggested up to $1800/family with kids. I think the limit was this would be sent to individuals making less than $80,000/year or families making less than $110K per year. Check the various news websites for updates, but this has nothing to do with your upcoming 2007 tax return but instead is an extra "bonus" rebate to try and spur the economy.

I think :mickey: has pen in hand to help endorse my rebate check. I am sure that if received before 4/10 we would spend more on extras at WDW.

I had read it would be anywhere from $500 - $800 for singles and $1000 - $1600 for couples under $110k

It will make the trip easier, If disney were smart they would set up a promotion to book next stay with incentives to the people that are there when they get the rebate check.

Yeah.. I heard about this this am... I heard up to $1600 for couples.. more if you had kids. But I don't think it's a done deal yet - is it? BUT... if they do this and I get the max ($1600) then YEP! I believe a trip to Disney in November or December will be in order!

No. I'm sure DH will want to drop it on bills. Which is okay with me. The more bills we pay off now, the more money I can save later for our trip in Dec., 2009.

Is this one of those things you are going to have to pay back next year when you do your taxes?

If we did get 500-800 I would pay on bills because my tax refund I am using on my disney trip. So if we get it that can go toward bills I should have paid with my refund:blush:

How do you get it? Is it something you have to fill out or is it associated with filing your taxes or do they just send it to everybody.

This is NOT your normal Income Tax Refund. Just read an article about this...

When

Once a rebate is decided on, the IRS could start mailing out checks by the end of June since the agency is now in the middle of the 2007 tax-filing season, said Jason Furman, a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution. The IRS, however, is not yet commenting on the matter since negotiations about the rebate are still under way.

The goal, however, for both Democrats and Republicans is to get the money into the hands of consumers as soon as possible.

In a briefing after the president's statement, Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson said, "If (tax relief) is broad-based and simple, I believe we'll be able to get it out quickly and in time to make a difference this year."
How much

Right now, President Bush is said to want an income tax rebate that would be generated by eliminating the 10 percent tax bracket, which applies to roughly the first $8,000 of income for single filers and the first $16,000 of income for married couples filing jointly.

That would mean taxpayers could get rebates of up to $800 if single, or $1,600 if married.

But neither President Bush in his statement nor Paulson in a briefing afterwards would confirm that amount. "I don't want to play bigger than a bread box," Paulson told reporters. "The president is focused on broad-based tax relief for those paying taxes."

If I have it my way, this will be my answer.

If DH gets his way, this will be my answer.

But it sure would be nice :cloud9:

If I'm not mistaken, the last time we received a rebate, we then had to claim it as income during the next tax season and pay taxes on it. Didn't we? Correct me if I'm wrong please.

I'd use mine for my vacation in the fall.

I'm going in June so if it takes that long it won't help my trip.

Yep, the last time we received a rebate we had to pay taxes on it the following year for both Fed's and State(NY)

I could not figure how this was income because they reduced our taxes but it was counted as income. I guess it is true "there is no free lunch"(except with the free dining at WDW).

I heard about this late yesterday afternoon. Sad thing is I won't have it in time for my next WDW vacation. Good thing is, if they are mailed out by end of June, I will have it in time to pay my Disney Visa before the interest begins to accrue from our vacation. :spend:So I guess I can easily say that yes I will be paying bills with my rebate check, but they will be WDW vacation bills.

What would make it really nice though is if it was $1600 for couples, but more for couples with children. Now that would almost make my vacation free!!! Doesn't get any better than that

If it happens, I plan to use it to pay OFF some of our last trip  :mickey: Still working on paying that off, then we can make plans to go again :)

We do not get a tax rebate, ever. :(

So... Do we have to do anything to get these rebates or are they just sent to us automatically? $1600 is a lot of money...

They've changed it to 600 & 1200 now

And if I read correctly, those with children will get an additional $300 per child.

This is what the proposal is right now:

Individual taxpayers would get up to $600 in rebates, working couples $1,200 and those with children an additional $300 per child under the agreement. In a key concession to Democrats, 35 million families who make at least $3,000 but don't pay taxes would get $300 rebates.
The rebates would phase out gradually for individuals whose adjusted gross income exceeds $75,000 and for couples with incomes above $150,000. Contributions to IRA and 401(k) retirement accounts and health savings accounts would not count toward the income limit.

I would love to put it towards a WDW trip, but being Mike is in construction, and his current job ends in July, we'll be putting it in the bank, just to be on the safe side!

IF we get the "rebate", we are putting it our boat kitty.

With our move and new mortgage, DH wants to sell the boat. I want to keep the boat, espessially since we own it, so this will cover some of the gas/marina expenses.

Hopefully it will go through.
