We just had our first soldier from the war come home from my town last week, and we had a big hero's welcome. We picked him up at his house on the fire trucks and paraded him around town with a police escort to where we had a sign made saying welcome home and had the soldiers name attached to the bottom. He was greeted by family, friends, and people who just wanted to welcome home a soldier.

The fire department is planning another welcome home celebration this Friday and we are trying to think of a name to call this celebration. My friend really liked Heros welcoming Heros, but her boyfriend (who is a fireman and in charge of this operation doesn't like it). I really like it too, but growing up around the emergency services, these men and woman dont' like to be called heros. It what they do, and I know a lot of soldiers who think the same way. So, if you have any ideas, please let me know! My brain is fried!

Thanks!

Hey Figgyluv,

I'll bet you $5 that we live in the same town. If I'm correct, as you head into town from the local high school, you come up the hill and the post office is on the right, the 4-8 school is on your left, and the shopping center where they wanted to build the "evil condo project" is next to that post office.

If thats it, I was in that crowd last week with my DS10 proudly waving his American Flag to welcome home Sgt. S.

If we dont live in the same town, we have the exact same situation happening.

Judging by your sig., you're too young to know me, and too old to know my kids.

How about "Honoring America's Best" or 'Honoring America's Finest" or something along those lines.

What about something like "Hellos for Heroes" (I am not sure about the spelling for Hellos!) or "Salute the Soldiers" or "Salutations to Soldiers" ???

Instead of Heroes Welcoming Heroes, how about A Hero's Welcome.

We were trying to stay way from the whole heros thing, since these men and woman don't consider themselves heros. We think we've come up with Operation Welcome Home.

And yes, kdsjjb, we do live in the same town. Ha ha, Evil Condo Project! I totally forgot about that and I live right across the street from where there. I'm four years younger than Sgt. S. He was a senior when I was a Freshman at SHS.

I like Operation Welcome Home and I think it is great what you are doing.

On a somber note, where I live the government has re-named a stretch of the major highway (Highway 401) the "Highway of Heroes." There have been signs implemented with the poppy to 'commemorate' the re-naming. (Sadly, people are stealing the road signs)

Quoting CTV's website "The stretch of highway between CFB Trenton and Toronto was renamed the Highway of Heroes to honour Canadian soldiers who have died in Afghanistan. It is the route taken by hearses that transport repatriated bodies to Toronto."

Obviously funeral arrangements are announced publicly so the public knows when a soldier will be transported from CFB to Toronto and along the stretch of the 401 people will stand on the overpass bridges and wait for the funeral processional to pass along the highway. The people carry Canada flags & yellow ribbons and it is very emotional to watch and be a part of. This is why the highway is dedicated to them.

I am very sad to say that a Canadian soldier was killed in combat who lives in the town I live in. Our street was covered in yellow ribbons & Canada flags, as was the town. Again, very emotional. The town recently named a new street for him.

With being so exposed to the death side of the homecomings, it is nice to hear of homecoming celebrations.

I'm so excited, we have three more guys coming home for Friday, two of which are brothers! I went to school with one of them, and then the third one is one of my younger brother's friends.
