Hello!
Y'all don't know me, because I've been lurking here for years. I'm a disney person (obviously; aren't we all?)
Anyways, DH, my two teenagers and I recently acquired yearly passes for ourselves to Disneyworld and decided to take ourselves to MGM today.
Now, I've been to MGM no less than four or five times previously, but I've never, EVER had this experience before:
DD wanted a turkey leg, so we stopped off at the Toluca Turkey leg place and got her one. The very nice gentleman behind the counter was wearing a disney restaurant uniform, although his was a completely different style and pattern than that of the rest of his coworkers. He took our order for the one turkey leg, (the rest of us had an ice cream bar) and told us the price for it was $5 and change, but that he would give it to us for free if DH (who was paying for us) would "gobble like a turkey". We of course thought it strange, but who could turn down a free turkey leg. A very lame, and brief "gobble, gobble" later and DD had her free turkey leg.
I've been to DisneyLand twice, and DWorld many times, and I've never encountered anyone giving away free food before! Has this happened to anyone else? Is this some sort of fluke, random act of kindness? DS was speculating that perhaps we encountered the million dreams giveaway team (if they're still out there), but it seems like a weird giveaway. Any ideas? Thanks!

:confused:I've never heard anything like this before either. The Dream Team is still making their rounds so maybe it was a YOMD thing. Hopefully someone will write that can shed a bit more light on things!

It sounds like a Magical Moment or what CMs call a Take 5.

sounds like a magical moment...most shops have some sort of small "contest" or activity that cm can do, the guest either gets a prize or a magical moments certificate. Hope the turkey leg was yummy :mickey:

Just a little more Disney Magic for ya! DH and I got married this Sept. of course we stayed at Disney for our honeymoon. Anyway we were in Epcot and DH wanted a beer, I decided to be adventures and have one my self (I don't drink)  DH went to pay for the beer and the cast member noticed our just married pins and gave us the 2 beers for free.

P.S I found the ride in Norway to be much more exciting after a beer ;)

Maybe, (just maybe), it was one of the street performers. They will sometimes do some REALLY strange things.

Glad you decided to jump in the mousetrap !!!:D

Probably a magical moment. We were at WCC with the in-laws last April. Their anniversary was that week and ours was the next week. The CM was told by someone and suddenly 4 complimentary champagne flutes appeared.

Sounds like a magical moment. Same thing happened to us in September. We were in Epcot just about to enter the worlds and my son saw a popcorn cart. Well needless to say he had to have some. My husband ordered the souvenier popcorn bucket. I saw him walking twords me with a strange look on his face. He said to me that guy wouldn't let me pay for this. I started to laugh since he seemed so stunned. I asked him what else he said and he said he didn't understand since he had a very thick accent. We all laughed and my son shouted let's go back for more! Jeez, mind of a 7 year old!

We had this happen twice on our trip last year.

The first "incident" was with my cousin and two of his daughters.......he's a bit gray and the CM said something about "ask your grandpa".....well the kids said "that is our DAD!" The CM felt a bit embarassed and had a certificate written out for free ice cream treats for them.....when the oldest daughter noticed it was not for everyone in the party, she asked if she could get one for everyone......total of eight of us and the CM changed the certificate to reflect eight free ice cream treats! That was welcome on a HOT day!

The second "incident" was with DS and I in Fantasyland. It was on our last day and we were down to our last HOUR. I told DS we had time for maybe two more rides. He chose the last ride to be PP and when I saw the wait time at 45 min I knew we did not have enough time to wait in line for it and he came unglued right there. Well I got him under control and he spotted a bunch of Dream Squad members by IASW and asked to trade pins with them.....then he said "thanks we have to go to our plane now, we're going home". The DS guy asked him if he could ride ANY ride in the park which would it be......he came right back with PP and the DS guy took us to the front of the line and DS asked him to ride with us -- which he did. Then at the end of the ride he gave DS a certificate that was Citizen of the Day.....DS asked what else he had in his bag......the guy then told him it was secret, but since he is a little guy he could peek inside.....DS then was content, but as we were walking away he said "mumma can we get our ice cream now" (I had also told him we could get it on our way out). Well, the DS guy was not finished with us as he was walking behind us......and escorted us to the nearest ice cream cart.....DS got his and the Dream Squad guy insisted I get something too......after that we were on our way out!! We stopped at the bathroom in the front of the park and who did we run into on our way out the door -- the Dream Squad guy!!!

I wish I remembered his name, but we were really in a hurry by that point and ended up checking in 40 minutes before our flight!! It was worth the chance of our luggage not making it home with us though!!

It sounds like a Magical Moment or what CMs call a Take 5.

Magical Moments and Take 5's are two different things. A Magical Moment is a planned, hourly event or game (which is what this sounds likes) such as Fairy Godmother in Training, finding Little Red at AK, Talk Like a Pirate, and the game Canada does (looking for the animal with the scarf). It usually results in a prize or certificate.

A Take 5 is exactly that - taking 5 minutes from your day to stop and talk to a Guest about their trip, where their from, talk to the children about the characters, princess costumes, etc. It's not planned and it's completely random and up to each individual CM to decide on if they want to Take 5 or not.

Just wanted to clarify....:D

i have twin girls-8ys old-
3 years ago, we were at MK and they both got icecream . As we were walking towards HM, one dropped her ice cream and cried. we were waiting to go to the HM and the line was moving , but i quickly helped the Disney person clean up the mess all over the sidewalk.
We went on the ride and actually my daughter had sort of forgotten about it, when all of a sudden, a man showed up with 2 ice creams for my kids. No charge and he said, " its always sad to waste icecream on the sidewalk"
I am not sure if it was the crying or the fact i was helping him clean, but He actually waited for us to go on the ride and tracked us down afterwards.
I was sooooo impressed.

That just sounds like part of the Disney Magic!!

We tipped over a soda outside Casey's waiting for the parade and a street cleaner went right in and got us a new one... and last trip DS dropped a dole whip (I know,,,,how abusive lol) and they gave him a new one right away!!

This is why we love disney!! I hope your turkey leg was yummy!!!

We have had 2 absolutely amazing experiences (at least to us!).

A couple of years ago - it was our last day & we had time for one more ride & we were debating SplM or BTMRR, 2 young ladies walked up & asked if we were going to ride, also discussed pin trading with us (DH was wearing the lanyard) & they took us to the front of the line for SplM! We went in via the exit & went right to the front & boarded! Following the ride we were gieven a free photo package of our ride & a certificate with a pin of Walt Disney! This was definietly a magical moment for us!

Not sure if the second event was from the same trip or another?, but we arrived back home from WDW to find that one of our DS's souvenears was broken inside our mangled suitcase (thanks to Delta! :O). I called WDW to see if it was possible to purchase the item over the phone & have it shipped, (it was the short, wooden POTC gun - I can't believe there was such a hard impact on our suitcase, enough to break this solid wood gun!). The CM got my name & address & said they's send a replacement right out to us! I tried to explain, that the gun was fine when we bought it, that Delta had broken it, & the CM told me that it happened all the time. WDW replaced the souvenear at no charge to me! I thought that was so over & beyond & I love to tell this story to everyone! Unbelievebale - no one else would have replaced the item at no charge & I could have been making it all up! I think that was a real defining moment for me & how I feel about the magic of WDW!:magic:

We saw something like this before:

We were in Mexico at Epcot back in September and the CM at the margarita stand called out free margaritas. We didn't get over there fast enough because they only gave out two. They are $8 each, so that was a magical moment for someone!

That's a neat story! Thanks for sharing. I've never seen anything like that before.

The only time we have encountered free food was in October at the Food and Wine Festival. My DH was wearing a birthday button. We had ordered 2 quesadilas, but when my DH picked them up the CM gave him a 3rd one and said, "Happy birthday!"

When we were there in March, my neice set down her baby ewok in the mission space gift shop and since we had warned her a million times to keep up with her stuff, we did not go back for it....Oh my..what a scene, well we got her calmed down and went for ice cream and the CM at the cart gave us it for free because there is "no crying at Disney World"

Then we bought sooo much stuff that one of our stuffed mickey's hid under the bed when we left...I guess mousekeeping found it as after we got home we received a call from Disney saying we had left something in our room and they would return it to us....and they did..free of charge.

Gotta love that Disney magic!

On our first night at Disney last week, we were at MGM. My daughter struck up a conversation with a cast member (Gisele) at an ice cream stand near RnRC. My daughter must have said the right things because she gave us all Ice cream for free!! It was a great way to start our vacation!!

DH and I had free food before. DH and I received free hot cocoa at Ghiradelli in DTD before. And on our last trip, we got some free desserts in restaurants as well. But we were also on our honeymoon. :mickey: We'll be at WDW on Saturday! :cloud9:

We were at Epcot last Wednesday and DS (3 1/3yrs) wanted an ice cream. When he went up to the CM at the stand and said he wanted a kodoozie, she handed it to him and said, "This one is on Mickey." That was one of our several Wishes that we received while there.

Great stories. We got a free dole whip and a water in MK. That was cool.

But I didn't have to perform for it!

That's very cool!
