Has anyone booked a garden view room at either the GF or the Poly and ended up with a theme park view?

I am debating the importance of the view and was just wondering?

Anyone that has stayed and booked either view what was your reasoning for the decision?

I am SO glad that I have this community to turn to when I have questions to ask about Disney; it sure takes a lot of the guess work out of vacation planning!

We booked a standard room at the Poly a few years ago and we were upgraded to a MK view. It was our honeymoon though and very nice of them. We had originally been booked at CBR but that was the year the food court was being refurbished. They offered us the Poly for a small fee and then when we arrived the room was upgrade further with a view of the castle. It was wonderful and magical :cloud9:

We booked a lagoon view for our anniversary at the GF and we were given a complimentary upgrade to theme park view. I didn't think the view mattered all that much, because the scenery is lovely no matter where you look at both resorts, but it made a difference and now we think it's worth paying the extra when we can swing it. We booked lagoon view originally as a compromise between garden view and theme park view. You really can't count on getting an upgrade, but it's fantastic when it happens.

Our room was Boca Chica 8507. This was our view:
the Castle (http://inlinethumb20.webshots.com/14931/2167000850102098585S600x600Q85.jpg), the train station (http://inlinethumb41.webshots.com/13928/2855132550102098585S600x600Q85.jpg), Space Mountain (http://inlinethumb45.webshots.com/13484/2376476400102098585S600x600Q85.jpg), Contemporary (http://inlinethumb23.webshots.com/14166/2767551310102098585S600x600Q85.jpg), Wilderness Lodge (http://inlinethumb27.webshots.com/12826/2199824270102098585S600x600Q85.jpg), the Polynesian (http://inlinethumb49.webshots.com/14384/2182126200102098585S600x600Q85.jpg), Spaceship Earth (http://inlinethumb22.webshots.com/13525/2731920210102098585S600x600Q85.jpg), Electric Water Pageant (http://inlinethumb29.webshots.com/15580/2026565090102098585S600x600Q85.jpg).

It was truly an amazing view, and it made for a very special trip.

Personally, I think the garden view at the GF is more in keeping with the theme of the resort. We've had rooms with all the views though and it is a little special being able to lay in bed and watch the castle change colors. Something to keep in mind with the theme park view, is that it won't guarantee that you'll see the castle. You are just as likely to have a view of Space Mountain instead. Even within the theme park view, seeing the castle is only a request.

I'm thinking that we might just go for the garden view and keep our fingers crossed. We don't really spend all that much time in our room and when we do it is usually to sleep and shower.

We stayed at Poly at the beginning of this month in a garden view room in Tokelau (would highly recommend requesting this bldg). We faced the quiet pool on the 1st floor. It was really lovely. Even when we sat on the "patio" and had lunch we did not feel like we were "on display"(the shrubbery was so lush and lovely) Every night we saw the fireworks from the beach which was just down the path. Unless you have little ones and are going to be in the room for most of the night, I would go with the garden view. That said, if the view is really important to you, pay for the upgrade so you will know what you're getting and will be happy.

I've read that there are some rooms at Poly that are garden view but have a view of MK. They aren't theme park view because the view is somewhat obstructed. I believe the rooms are in Tokelau.

We are staying at Poly in March. I have already requested Tokelau and will call again before we leave and make another request. I'm keeping my finger, and toes, crossed for a view of the castle!

I believe the rooms are in Tokelau. That's true and there are similar rooms at the GF. Specifically, they're in the Boca Chica building, high floor, overlooking Narcoossees. You can see the castle through the trees.

I know I might be in the minority here, but I do go for the view. We do spend time in our room and if I'm at Disney, I like to feel as close to the magic as possible, so that when we go back to the room, the magic just continues. We had a tower MK view and a Poly Lagoon view last week and it was still so exciting to go back to our room. We could see Wishes from both locations, and we could hear the comings and goings of the boats, etc... I love that. HOWEVER, if we couldn't pull off the view for whatever reason..finances, availabililty, etc...that would be OK too. I'm always happy and grateful just to be there. So my advice?? If you can, Go for the view. If circumstances don't really allow, don't worry about it. It will be terrific and magical anyway. :mickey: And you might be surprised how you might end up loving a certain view although it may not seem magical! At the villas at WL last year, we were on the second floor and I had a view of the bus stop out of one window. I loved it. No kidding. I loved watching the comings and goings of the people and the buses. Someone else might have thought it was a stinky view, but I thought it was terrific. I just like to watch and feel close to things. I don't think I've ever been disappointed with our "views"..I always find something to like from each one!

We were in Tokelau a couple weeks ago, first floor facing west (I think... non pool side). We had a lovely view of the Contemporary and would have been able to see Space if it weren't for some pesky palm trees. I suspect that a LOT of rooms in this building (particularly 2nd and 3rd floor rooms) have some view of the MK. Pool side probably can see a bit of the castle, other side can see Space which, while not the castle, is still cool.

I don't pay for the view. Then again, we're not in the room enough for it to be worth it. I'd ask for Tokelau and take my chances, personally.

We paid for a garden view at the GF last May but our room turned out to be a lagoon view of the Polynesian and the GF beach.

We stayed at that building in January but a higher floor. We had a very lovely view of the walkway and lush grounds. It was quiet and very nice. Last Dec we stayed at the Contemporary with a MK view. While it was very nice we were hardly ever in the room to enjoy it. For fireworks we were always out. I don't think I would pay for the view again, it was simply not worth it for us:secret:

I love that view, too. And for a Garden View price! Nice bargain.

Of the 3 times I've been, the only bad room I had was when I got the room I asked for (alligator bayou-very dull). I got upgraded to preferred Martinique at CBR when I wanted Jamaica, and got a Rancho room with Epcot fireworks view at CS instead of the Cabanas. Just lucky I guess, though I didn't know it at the time.
