A friend of mine told me that one of Disney's copyrights is almost up. I hadn't heard anything about it. Can anyone shed any light on this? Thanks in advance!

It is hard to say which one your friend might be talking about but with a company with the size and breadth of business they are involved in it could be just about anything. If it is any of the important ones I am sure Disney will find a way to hang onto it.

Assuming that the copyright is on something like a character than all they have to do is make some minor change and then copyright the new version and effectively keep it tied up. I know just enough about this stuff to be dangerous but I am also aware that there is something in copyright law that allows a company to hang onto a particular copyright beyond its normal limits if the loss of that copyright would cause severe harm to the company. Thus I think any court would agree that just about any of the characters Disney has created would fall under that idea.
