Alright I am about to make my first trip to Fort Wilderness, I am staying in a tent site and am wondering if it is worth the extra 50 bucks a day to rent a golf cart. We go to the parks a lot any other time since we are local so we are planning to spend most of the trip in the campgrounds just for something different. Is everything basically walking distance or should I find other transportation? Thanks in advance.

You will really enjoy camping at FW. We have done trips while getting a cart, and trips without. The cart does offer a lot of freedom and foot rest, but you can survive with out one. We have enjoyed getting one just to cruise around and look at the other loops, as well as driving to the bus stops. You have to ask your self if the time saved waiting on internal buses is worth the price. If nothing else, get one for a day or two and see. Either way, have a great stay and DO eat at Trail's End:thumbsup:

you have to rent a cart it makes life easy. The fort is a big place and a lot to walk, its kinda a bummer having to wait for the bus everytime you need to go to the water,Meadows or settelment. Few of mine!!! Ill be at the fort the 30th look for my carts:thumbsup:

Welcome to Intercot! :mickey:

The pictures of these carts are not representative of the carts that disney rents. These are pics of privately owned carts.

The carts make staying at FW so much more enjoyable . It is nice knowing that after a long day at a park that you do not have to wait for a bus and can climb into your cart and get back to you site relatively fast. One time, my DW noticed she forgot her camera :shake: when we on the dock on our way to the MK and it was so much faster to go back and get it rather than waiting on the buses. We also have a lot of fun cruising around the different loops and going out at night to see all the wildlife running around. On one night of ridding around we saw dear, rabbits (hundreds of them), armadillos, opossums, snakes, and of course squirrels. Some of the camp sites are decorated and it is neat to see the variety of stuff that is put out. It is well worth the cost for us. :mickey:

We usually get a cart. But this year we took scooters. On the days we went to a park we just locked them to something and they were fine. For the price of a cart all week you can almost buy 2 scooters! And now we have the scooters for all the campgrounds we visit.

I agree with trying one out for a day or two to see what you think. They are a big plus to get you to the bus stops quicker, which will get you to the parks quicker. But I think you said you were going to stay in the campground most of the time.

We will take our scooters from now on. They were great! Bikes work almost as well.

Yes - it's expensive.
Yes - it's a luxury.
No - it's not needed to enjoy yourself.
Yes - transportation is provided by the resort.
Yes - it is very fun.
Yes - you can walk or ride a bike.

Overall, it's just added Disney fun. Just do it. You want regret it. My kids love riding around and looking at all the camp sites. It's very nice to just hop onto the cart after a long day in the parks.

:mickey: First time posting so you may have to bare with me. Ive been going to disney world since I was born always staying in Fort Wilderness. Tried POP once not again. Since I got married my DW and I have bought a trailer just to stay in the Fort, gone there several times with it and love it. After I saw all the lifted golf carts there I had to have one, its taken a while but this summer I finally bought one and set it up the way I wanted it. Me and the DW already love rideing through the neighbeorhood on it and cant wait to take it to Fort Wilderness this November. I have never used a golf cart there before but it sure looks like fun to me thats why I bought one. Before we always used bicycles and they work great. But if you got the money get the cart but you will have fun either way.

Just got back from FW yesterday and we had a blast. We ended up not doing the cart rental and just hoofed it everywhere. It would have been fun to go around and look at everyones campsites but we stayed so busy I don't think we would have had enough time to do it anyway. Thank you for all of your input and down the road we may try and get one in the future.
