So my friend is taking her family to WDW in February, but she wants me to plan the trip for her. The problem is there will be 6 of them in one room, I'm not sure where to go. I have a few ideas, but I really need some recommendations. They have a 4 yr old DD & want to be close to the MK. I really want to make sure they have the magical experience of Disney. Thanks in advance for all suggestions!

not to be a bummer, but i don't think that there are any hotels that fit 6 people in one room that is close to the MK
if they don't mind camping, thats another story...

The Fort Wilderness Cabins do hold 6 people and are only a boat ride away from the MK.
Near the MK- no other regular resort rooms hold 6 people.
On the MK loop, your options include suites (quite pricey) and DVC Villas (they would need 2 bedroom Villa).
The All Stars have the new Family Suites which hold 6 people and are not very expensive. Not near the MK, but still on property.
And the other option, of course, would be to get 2 connecting rooms anywhere they like.
You'll need to know what their budget will allow. If the sky is the limit- then they can choose whatever they like- even a Presidential Suite!

I agree with the previous poster.....get her to give you a budget to mess with and that will narrow things down very well. As it stands, if they want to be in the MK resort area, you are looking at connecting rooms (of which, Wilderness Lodge would be the most economical) or a Villa at the Wilderness Lodge DVC.
If the sky isn't the limit with the budget (like for most of us!!!), I would look into connecting rooms at a Moderate, knowing that Disney transportation can get them to MK in a fairly efficient manner. The All Star Music Family Suite was also a great suggestion -- it includes a small kitchenette, but know that all the kiddos would be sleeping on some sort of pull out couch or chair. I have not had personal experience in those units, so they might be very comfy -- then again, they might be like any other pull out couch or chair! LOL.

Close to the MK?
Six people in one room?
Could your friend have thrown in some real challenges??? ;)
She'd have to book connecting rooms in one of the MK resorts - Poly, GF, or CR - in order to fit six.
The other options:
2 rooms connecting at the WL
A 2BR at the VWL
FW cabin
Looking for more options would bring you further away from the MK.

I know, my friend has challenged me! I had originally thought ASMFS for them as well, but I don't know. Thanks for the advise, keep it comin'! :D

We have 4 children (all grown now) and we loved the cabins at Fort Wilderness. They easily accomadate 6 people and you get a kitchen for breakfast or whatever. Our kids have very fond memories of the cabins, which by the way are not exactly the same ones anymore. You just take a really nice boat ride right to MK. On every trip we still visit the campground just to remember all our other trips. Certainly, do not think of this as camping. The cabin is every bit as nice as any motel room with some extras, like the kitchen and complete maid service. Our kids loved the rustic Daniel Boone type feel. The Disney movie every nite is a great plus. Also, very quiet deck for mom and dad to relax after a very busy day. I would for sure look into them. Have fun planning, I also have been planning a Jan. trip for some friends.

It's not next door to MK, but two adjoining rooms at Pop Century will give your friend 4 beds (and sleep 8 people) and will have two bathrooms. (I find the two bathrooms to be a definite bonus.)
Pop has those direct buses, too, so it's really not a bad choice.
