Hello all,
I'm hoping there are some mechanics, auto specialists, novices, etc out there. I have a 1995 Toyota 4Runner manual transmission that is acting up on me. When I turn on the air conditioner it blows out cool air for about ten minutes then it seems that the A/C 'kicks off' and starts blowing out warm ambient air. I've noticed that it doesn't kick off until my temp. guage goes about half way between Hot and Cold.

Does anybody have any idea would could be wrong with it? I know that I should probably take it into the mechanic but I'm tight on cash right now (just started working right out of school & paying off those student loans). Any suggestions or advice is greatly appreciated! Thank you.

i am sorry that i dont know what is wrong with your truck but i may be able to give you some relief from the heat. my ac in my truck went out and i went to autozone and got a can of stuff called ac freeze.it was a white can and you put it into you ac valve under the hood of your car. it was very easy and my ac has been blowing ice cold ever since. if this dosent work it also sounds like the switch on your dashboard may be going out. hope this helps.:fan:

Some times these things are related to the thermostat and heater system. It could be that as your car heats up and your thermostat engages, it is triggering your ac.
I'll finish this by saying in that no way am I a mechanic either.

Either the A/C needs to be charged or your thermostat is sticking. Either way, it shouldn't cost more than $100.00 to fix. And that should be a high estimate at least from my experience.

Thank you all for the help. I did consider getting that can of air conditioning stuff ('recharging' the A/C) but I was too scared to mess around with it. Thank you for the quote! I feel much better now. Of coarse, we've had beautiful weather this week in which I didn't have to use my A/C at all this week. :secret: I wish I was more mechanically inclined. Thanks all again!
