Thanks to the advice of my new friends at Intercot this year, we tried many new restaurants and snacks on our last trip.
You were all bang-on with Dole Whip.
School Bread was a bit of a disappointment.

That's so funny! I also eagerly sought both treats out after hearing from all the intercottees. I had the opposite reaction: LOVED the school bread but thought the dole whip was just okay. Was afraid to confess my lack of passion for the Dole Whip until now, but I have a plan: next time try the Dole Whip Float.

Okay, the dole whip... I KNOW the dole whip. But school bread? Where have I been. What is this treat that I MUST be missing out on???

School bread is a sweet bread filled with custard and covered with shredded coconut. It is sold at the Kringla bakery in Norway (EPCOT).
I was so desperate to try it that we picked two of them up on our way to our ADRs at Rose & Crown. Unfortunately they sat out in the very hot humid evening air, while we dined on the patio and watched Illuminations. After dinner, we returned to our hotel, but were too stuffed to eat, so we put the school bread in the cooler and ate them the next morning for breakfast. I'm sure they are much better if you eat them right away. Maybe they really are as good as you all say, and our problem was the lack of refrigeration for a couple of hours.

That's how I tried the Dole Whip - in a float. It's a drink, it's a snack, and it's good value for a single Snack Credit. I couldn't believe the number of people I saw redeeming Snack Credits for bottled Dasani. I'd rather drink fountain water and save my credits for the good stuff.

School Bread really hits the spot if you are a fan of coconut and custardy fillings.

You gotta have some cold milk with it too.

I wasn't crazy about the Dole Whip either. I am not a huge pineapple fan, though. Next time DH is going to get the float while I find a citrus swirl that I now know about due to Intercot!

Oh man I want to try the school bread. It probably was dissapointing due to the lack of freshness. Sitting in the hot air and then transferring to the cool most definately would affect flavor and texture.

As for the dole whip, I had one, it was pretty good. this time I want to the float and the strawberry version. Can't quite try the citrus--I had a bad experience with a citrus flavored medicine when I was little and can only tolerate certain orange flavors (like orange tic-tacs and starbursts--Grand Marnier makes me :ack:). Plus I live at the Jersey shore and THE ONLY citrus swirl is Kohr's. MMMM...it's so yummy. I don't need to go to Disney to get that, but now I'm curious as to whether which is better. Anyone have both??

I am a huge fan of coconut, and rarely meet a treat I don't like. The school bread almost put me in a coma in was so sweet and heavy. A heart attack in a box!!!!

Yum, Kohrs custard! We go to Ocean City, NJ every year. We used to go to Atlantic City before the casinos spoiled it. Last year when my Disney loving 3 year old arrived at Playland Amusement park he asked "Where is Indallella's Castle? This isn't Disney World!" He did have fun despite his discriminating taste.

Okay, the best way to eat school bread is to wander around innovations and the living seas all morning. Reach the point of starvation. Watch in scorn as your boring family heads to America for chicken fingers and burgers. Head to Norway. Eat an entire luscious school bread while standing in Norway slowly entering a sugar trance. Now that you have a little energy, wander the world to find lunch.

I didn't like the school bread as much as I expected, either! I thought it would be donutty and custard filled, but it was actually bready and filled with a sweetened butter- not what tasted like a custard at all. I guess it is supposed to be a custard but it was more butter in texture than custard for me. I was disappointed. It was okay but not what I thought it would be.

Dole Whip is always wonderful and refreshing, though.

Well, I do water. I have high blood pressure and caffeine and salt really get me elevated in a hurry -- and sugar just leaves me feeling awful afterwards. Not everyone likes to have treats, I know for me personally that I hate walking around all day feeling bloated. :) And I hate Orlando water, :ack: As an avid water drinker, there's no better way to spend my snack credit. To me, since I am buying the water anyway, what a total waste of money it would be to pay for water oop.

I can also think of how many times I have seen sugar induced tantrums in the parks from kids who have overindulged... no thanks!

To me, schoolbread is incredibly overhyped here on the boards, so I agree with the OP. And while I'll admit that the DoleWhips are also overhyped, at least they live up to the billing! Okay, that's my opinion! ;)

I agree! This is what gets me - you expect a donut type of pastry, and you actually get bread that's decorated and filled like a pastry. Guess that's why its called school bread.

:D That was what I said when I ate it. "Oh yeah, it IS bread." But to tease me with the donut-like appearance really isn't fair.

Maybe it's because I have Scandinavian blood...but I LOVE the school bread! :cloud9: Now can we all agree that the chocolate dipped Mickey Mouse rice krispy treats are also rather tasty?!
