Hey all...

I would love to put together a New England meet for this MARCH. We had a great meet this summer, but I would love to get more this time, specifically from more of my MA and nothern New England peeps, the Yankee Fans outnumbered Sox Nation...which is sad!!! ;)

UPDATE 12/2:

Right now we're looking at:

Saturday, February 16th or Sunday, February 17th in Worcester, MA.

Worcester is less than 2hrs from Southern, ME, less than 1.5 hrs from Springfieldf, a little more than an hr from Boston, and JUST over an hr from Hartford, CT.

We're looking at Sakura Tokyo (Japanese) and Webster House (American/European) to gather.

I'm also thinking of a Disney-related contest and Disney-related Yankee Swap (We did this last time, and it was a success!). A Yankee Swap is buying an item less than $10 and then we swap them by picking an order.

At this point, I just need a:

'YES, THAT SOUNDS AWESOME...I CAN DO IT'
or
"NO...THAT'S NOT COOL BECAUSE...(insert really important reason here)"

Basically I need a rough headcount. We will firm up dates around New Years.
Thanks guys...and definitely let me know if you have any other ideas!

Greg

PS. YES...there is ANOTHER New England meet planned for March. I will be attending that meet as well. However, I want to do a meet to cater more my Northern New Englander peeps who can't make Southern CT. Anyone ANYWHERE of course is welcome to attend, but I since New England is a LARGE area, we should accomodate different geographical Disney fans...HAHA!

It will be a WICKED good time!! :cloud9:
Happy Holidays and PM me with any questions! :santa:

The Worcester County area would be perfect for me. Any suggestions for restaurants?

grego77
09-13-2007, 01:47 PM
As I go to Clark University for grad school (and went there for Undergrad too!), the best restaurant for parties is definitely Sakura Tokyo...because they have the cooking tables that can seat close to 20. Also good, but VERY small is Baba Sushi on Park Ave. I would definitely suggest Sakura Tokyo for a group. Webster House is also very good and we could get a room to ourselves there. They serve Polish/American/Greek food. The owners are wonderful there. :mickey:

The Springfield area is perfect for me but I'm willing to travel a bit. I was going to suggest a Basketball Hall of Fame area meet-up, since that's a big destination here. There's a Pizzeria Uno at the site with a Cold Stone Creamery right nearby.

I'd be up for the New England meet. I'm actually attending a college in Nashua, NH, which is right one the NH MA border. So yeah, if anyone has a date and time I'll be there.

Let's say roughly as of right now, we'll meet Sat Nov 3rd or Sun Nov 4th in the Worcester/Springfield, MA area.

Please let me know at your convenience if either of those dates work for you. :mickey:

In early Oct, we'll finalize things!

Both dates work for me. I wouldn't mind the Webster House- my stepfather plays there once in a while. Sakura Tokyo is fine with me, too. I will pretty much go anywhere. LOL What is the most central location for all of the people attending? It sounds like it may be close to Worcester, since we have Springfield, Nashua & CT.
Grego77, you name the time & place & I will be there- I'll keep that weekend open!

I called both restaurants, and they're both fine with large(r) groups on Sat November 3. I think we may go with Webster House based on the fact that it will be moderately quiter.

So:

November 3
90% sure it's Webster House
Worcester, MA
roughly 1:00 PM

I need a head count within the next 2 weeks or so...so please let me know all you New Englanders ASAP!

Thanks guys! :mickey:

I think I can make it... let me wait a day or two before I ask my hubby about it. Just getting back from this weekend --- not a good time to ask him for another day off from the kids... :)

We are going to do the Yankee Swap. Bring a Disney-themed gift priced roughly around 10.00. Bring it wrapped, and we will swap them based on a number system. It'll be a lot of fun!

I REALLY want around 10 people minimum if possible....we're around halfway there. Tell all your friends!!!

Hey...

I really want to do this meet...but I think we should have at least 10 or so people. I called the restaurant, and they said they need a definite count by Wednesday. So I will make a decision by then. Right now we have 4 people. Let's hope we get a few more by then.

So we will have 2 options. Do the meet with 4 people...OR delay to early 2008.

Any ideas?

Hey everyone...

thanks to everyone who responded. Right now, we only have 5 people (5 SUPER-AWESOME PEOPLE)...but I really think we should probably postpone until early 08 and get a larger turnout then. I thought this would be a PERFECT time for a meet, but with weekends being busy for a lot of people, I guess it's harder for most than I thought.

Not to make this about myself, but I am also going through a LOT right now in my personal life, and I think it would be better for me right now (and everyone else who would be around me) to just do a rain check.

I'll start another thread in around a month, so we can plan a good month (+) ahead so we can get better numbers.

Again, thanks to everyone who was interested and I hope to put on an event sometime soon. Sorry for ruining anyone's plans if that did happen!! :(

Hey again everyone...
We're going to try this again. With the Southern New England Intercot Meet in March, I think this meet should be in February.

I'm looking at February 16th (Saturday) or 17th (Sunday) in Worcester, MA. We will eat at a restaurant in the area, and have a Yankee Swap.

What I need right now is simple "yea that sounds good" or "no it's not a good weekend" or "no that's stupid having 2 New England Meets" ...LOL.

We will firm up a date roughly around New Years.

Happy Holidays and don't hesitate to PM me with any questions/comments.

I think it's great having two meets... I was hoping to do the Southern NE meet in southeast CT, so for you Bostoners it's a bit far. Me, I'm in the middle and if I can find the time, hopefully I can go to both! :D

Those dates look pretty good right now -- close to Feb break. I'll check and see.

Can't believe I missed this post until today!

I am in Rutland so count me in, I should be available that weekend to get together! Swap sounds like fun, I will be in WDW in 3 weeks and need an excuse to do more shopping!

BTW... I used to book a lot of New England meetings for work, I found Auburn is also a good place to meet since the pike goes right through and nobody got lost. I did a few things at Periwinkles and Georgios, food is OK and owner is very accommodating.

About a mile down rt 20 & rt 12, where the Pike, 290 and 395 meets. Straight shot of of the restaurant back to all of the highways. There is also a Chili's on the same road.

sorry guys...it's been a really busy last couple weeks. I will call restaurants on Monday. I am assuming the people have have responded are still interested, which should give us a group of roughly 10 people...which is the number I will give for the reservation.

We WILL be meeting Saturday February 16th, most likely at 12pm or 1pm.

I will have the place set by Monday. I am 99% sure it will be in the Auburn/Worcester, MA area (1hr from Boston, 3hrs from NYC, 2.5hrs from Albany, 2hrs from Portland, ME, 1hr from Hartford, CT, 1.5hrs from Nashua, NH).

Check back in then, and ASAP give me a preliminary YES or NO. I will also PM all interested people the 4th or 5th of Feb to give me hopefully a DEFINITE YES or NO.

I can't wait! I've lined up my mother to sit with the children and I'm good to go.

What are the details on the Yankee Swap? I've only done one so I'm a little clueless and could use some help. Are the items supposed to be Disney inspired?

When we did a Yankee swap at the NE meet last year, we all brought a wrapped, under-$5 Disney themed item. Everyone draws a number out of a bag and then chooses a present in number order. If you like what you've chosen, you keep it. Otherwise you can take something from someone else and trade what you opened. At the end the first person to unwrap gets their choice of all the presents.

Greg, let me know if you want me to put together a trivia contest, I'd be glad to.

I am SOOO happy we have so many people. :cloud9:

I found internet here in Canada, and am like smiling like crazy with all these posts! It's gonna be an incredible meet, and I am SOOO looking forward to meeting all of you!

Again, please don't forget to check the thread Monday evening to see the firm details of WHERE we will be meeting and WHEN. As to a Yankee Swap, it is on...and check Kathy's post above for what it entails. I will then ask for a headcount. Right now, I roughly count somewhere between 10-15 people...which is incredible!

And to those who asked about a Disney store, unfortunately they forgot about us in MA, as there are none in the area. Sorry!

Have a great weekend everyone!

We will be having a Yankee Swap. So start thinking about that, and rummage up some WICKED awesome Disney themed "stuff"!

I made the reservation for 15 people, and they asked for a SET number by Thursday of next week. So PLEASE post back on the thread with names and how many people will be in your group at your earliest convenience!

Please PM me or respond on this thread with any questions. I will start PMing people on Wednesday if I haven't heard from you, and I will also send a PM next Friday with my cell phone number.

Looking forward to a great day! :cloud9:

Greg, let me know if you want me to put together a trivia contest, I'd be glad to.

Kathy,
A trivia contest would be awesome if you can do it.

Still waiting for many of you to confirm a YES or NO. Even if you said YES before the set details were planned, I'd still like another "YES" for numbers reasons.

So keep the responses coming! ;)

Hey gang, I'm so sorry but I won't be able to make it tomorrow.

We've had a personal situation arise and it looks like I'll be spending the day in the hospital with the DH instead. Not life-threatening, so please don't worry, but I am so bummed at the timing. Best wishes to everyone and I look forward to future meets.

I am so sorry I did not make the meet yesterday. We had a close friend in the hospital unexpectedly. Thank heavens he will be fine. I am so disappointed I did not get to meet all of you. You have no idea how long I have been looking forward to meeting all of you. Sorry again for the no show.
