Just wanted to share an interesting observation. We usually go to DisneyWorld in December and noticed that the Tree of Life was void of leaves. I just came back from Disney in August and noticed that the tree was fill of green leaves. I found this to be neat as the tree changed with the seasons as well.

1) Interesting observation.
2) There are over 103,000 leaves.
3) All are individually attached.
4) Not sure how they would remove them seasonally.

Thank you for the reply, that's true it would take a long time and a big crane :) to remove them for each season.

Are you sure you aren't mixing up the Tree of Life with some of the baobab trees in the Africa section?

I am about 99.9% confident they have not removed the leaves since the Tree of Life was erected in the late 1990's.

It would be an interesting feature, if they did make that happen.

I was thinking about the upside down tree in Africa.

Yes, big difference between the baobab trees in Africa and the Tree of Life. The Tree of Life is on Discovery Island.

LOL_Hey did you know that you can actually stay at the TOT? Sorry- couldn't help it.:thedolls:

I saw on a tv special recently that only 1 of those baobab trees is real.(I think it is the one on the safari, but not sure) The others are native oak trees that have been trimmed and cut.

NO You really can't stay there. I was just being hateful. It is one of those things you hear newbies say at the parks sometimes. Sorry for the confusion.

No, it's in the African village area, not on the safari.

I don't know if I saw the same thing you did about some of the trees actually being Oaks. In the one I saw they mentioned that in addition to the oaks looking so much like the African tree they also lost their leaves at about the same time which is another reason they used them.

It was Modern Marvels on Discovery. I think it was one of those fact that comes up for you to read right before it goes to commercial. I have it Tivo'd-I'll re-watch and find out.

I did a little online research on this. There is only one live baobab tree in Harambe, outside Tusker House restaurant.

That tree caught a fungus in 2005-06 and died. It was replaced in late 2006 with a new younger one that is still alive and still growing.

The rest are native Chapman Live Oaks that have benn trimmed.

Again-I can't confirm it. Just quick internet research.
