Aug. 29, 1905 – Cartoonist Al Taliaferro, born Charles Alfred Taliaferro, and known as the 1st artist of Donald Duck newspaper comics, was born in Montrose, Ca.
Aug. 29, 1945 – Original Mouseketeer Michael Smith was born in Burbank, Ca.
Aug. 29, 1955 – The “Chicken of the Sea Pirate Ship and Restaurant” opened in Disneyland’s Fantasyland. It was a popular park landmark until 1982 when the new Fantasyland opened in 1983, it was replaced with the new version of the “Dumbo” attraction.
Aug. 29, 1964 – Disney’s “Mary Poppins,” starring Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke, was generally released. (The entire film was shot on the soundstages at the Disney Studio in Burbank, Ca.
