Aug. 26, 1918 – A young Walt Disney forged his parents signatures and enlisted into the “American Ambulance Corps.” (part of the Red Cross). He changed his birth year from 1901 to 1900.
Aug. 26, 1949 – Disney’s Goofy cartoon “Tennis Racquet” was released.
Aug. 26, 1951 – Walt Disney told journalist & animation historian John Culhane: The most important aim of any of the fine arts, is to get a purely emotional response from the beholder.”
Aug. 26, 1979 – The Wonderful World of Disney aired part 1 of “the Sky’s the Limit” on NBC.
Aug. 26, 1994 – The Disney/Touchstone film “It’s Pat” was released.
Aug. 26, 2003 – Buena Vista Records/Hollywood Pictures released Hilary Duff’s debut album “Metamorphosis” (which features the single “So Yesterday.”)
Aug. 26, 2003 – Disney’s “Stitch! The Movie” was released on DVD and VHS.
Aug. 26, 2003 - A special pre-parade celebration took place in the Magic Kingdom before “Share a Dream Come True Parade” in honor of the Sept. 9, 2003 release of “Sleeping Beauty” special addition starring Aurora, Princess Phillip, Flora, Fuana, Merry Weather, as well as the evil Maleficent.
Aug. 26, 2005 – Fred Joerger, a master model maker who helped create Disneyland’s look by molding “Sleeping Beauty Castle” and other attractions in miniature, passed away at age 91. (Walt Disney handpicked Joerger in 1053 to become one of his first three model makers.)
