How did Epcot get it's name? Does it stand for anything? Just wondering.

Walt named his second theme park EPCOT which stands for "Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow". If you get chance to see any of the Disney specials on the Travel Channel the one about the parks shows a segment with Walt himself explaning his concept. Very cool.

Because of the size of EPCOT, I thought it stood for Every Person Comes Out Tired

EPCOT (Experimental Prototype Community [or city] of Tomorrow) was Walt's vision for a new city that would help solve the problems cities faced through the use of technology. It was to be a living, breathing showcase of technology and modern methods. It did include a Disneyland park (the Magic Kingdom) to help draw visitors and revenue.

When Walt died, so did much of his vision for EPCOT. The property ended up becoming Walt Disney World and the Magic Kingdom was built. The Imagineers built the EPCOT Center (now known as Epcot) theme park in honor of Walt's original vision for his Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow.

The evolution of the way the name is posted is also interesting.

It was EPCOT Center. Then EPCOT. Now, only the E is capitalized, and Epcot.

Hope to see some EPCOT Center merch. when I'm there in Oct for the 25th!
