View Full Version : Changes to SpectroMagic!

I was at Disney today and we stayed for SpectroMagic :cloud9:(my fav). Boy was I surprised. The trumpeteers (I think that's what they're called) didn't have their big, clowny mask on! They did have a covering over their face, mesh like in appearance. It was interesting to see this change. Did anyone know this was coming about? I didn't care for the mask at first but they kind of grew on me and now I'm not sure what to think.

I think they're called Spectromen, if I'm not mistaken.

Maybe the masks were too hot to wear during the summer months, I don't know.

I, too, love Spectromagic - especially the Spectromen at the beginning!

i don't know if they changed their masks but the whole part about it being to hot to wear the masks makes sense since its been so hot lately.

Guys no need to worry the Spectromen "chuckie" masks were back last night....proabley somthing was wrong with the masks I guess

I was referring to last night. I was at the 8/17/07, 11:00 parade. And I'm not worried. I'm curious. :mickey:

I agree with the "chuckie" statment... those things scare the heck out of me! and yes they are called Spectro Men..... SCARY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I remember correctly I read somewhere on these boards that the performers had to clench their teeth in a piece of the mask in order to keep it on, so perhaps this is why they changed them... this is just my though...

Well, the Spectromen grew on me. Their faces reminded me too much of a clown... a permanent expression. They were kinda fun... but VERY oogie at the same time.

I may have to catch this in Oct... just to catch a gander at the new faces.

I've seen video and pictures of the men with their new look and I really don't like it.
They look really creepy and scary.:eek: I like the mask they had on before alot better.

That is so true! Those guys always scaried me a little cross btwn this and a clown mask. ha.

We saw SpectroMagic twice in mid-August and once they had the traditional masks we all recognize and the other they had those new faces. As much as I thought they were a bit creepy before, I actually preferred the old masks! Maybe it was just the shock of seeing the change as I had forgotten about it until I saw them.

I clicked on the link to the pictures and I don't like the new faces. The old ones were better, these are even more freaky... :eek:

Looking at the new faces (which, by the way, thanks for posting!), I do kinda like the old ones better, even though they were so oogie! These just don't look like Disney to me. Now they really do look like clowns.. which I'm scared of.

I like them. They remind me of the three faeries(?? I never could figure out what they were...) from Tapestry of Dreams Parade at Epcot. And they also remind me of the Doddlebops, which might help when appealing to the youngin's so they aren't terrfied by the Spectromen. It looks better I think, more realistic.

I must be the only person who wasn't terrified of the old masks. They reminded me of a Glo-Worm's face for some reason.

I'm not too big on the new faces, but I'm sure they will grow on me in time.

I worked on the parade from Aug-May and back in March/April they were testing the makeup/fake noses and chins. Not sure why they keep changing back and forth though. But I can definitely tell you that the performers do not have to clench their teeth down on something to keep it on. There are 2 kinds of clowns, the spectromen (clowns with without hats) and fanfare (clowns with hats). If you have any more Spectro questions, just ask. :)

We must be around the same age because I so watched Zoobileezoo when I was a kid too. I remember watching it around lunchtime, right before heading off to kindergarten. That's too funny.

I'll be 22 in 3 months. My mom actually took my brother and I to see Zoobilee Zoo live. I loved that show but I hadn't thought about it in a while until I saw those pics. The style in which the faces are painted just stirred up images of Talkatoo Cockatoo and Lookout Bear, lol!

Don't forget you are talking about a place that is run by a mouse, has flying carpets and elephants, toys that are alive (Buzz Ride) ect. I don't think Walt wanted MK to be to realistic. LOL:D
