I saw all those mixed reviews before my trip there in January.

The hotel was absolutely fine. The room was clean, the furnishings pretty updated and we really enjoyed our stay. The downside that people seem to harp on is the location. It is situated at the north end of the strip- not really within walking distance to any of the major attractions. We had a car, so this was not really a problem for us. The Stratosphere doesn't have as much of the themeing and attractions of some of the mega-casinos, but it was really nice for our purposes. There was also a really good 50's diner-type restuarant and a really good cafe located on the premises for dining. Unfortunately, I can't tell you about the restaurant in the tower or the rides at the top of the tower because I got sick the day before we went out there. I didn't think my stomach could handle the heights.

Don't give the negative reviews a second thought. The Stratosphere was absolutely fine.

it is the only hotel i stay at in vegas. i love the rooms and the top of the world restuarant is awsome!!! i also worked at swatch inside the tower when i lived there back in 01. it is a little far from some of the other places but you can rent a car or the cat ( the city bus ) picks up right outside the hotel.
