Have you ever been on a ride that has broken down?

Yes....we were broken down one Pirates on night a few years ago. What an experience that was. We were going just about to go under a bridge with the guy dangling his feet over and the pigs off to the side. The ride stopped and they had the usual announcement...then 5 mins passed, 10 mins passed...and so on until an hour later we are still on the ride with the lights on...MUSIC STILL GOING...and there are CM's out in the water with wading pants pushing boats to places in the ride we could exit. We were the very last boat to get out of there. We had to climb 2 flights of stairs and came out 'behind the scenes' somewhere near the parking lot in the front. We were escorted by security to where we had to go, past a CM break area, up some more steps and out a door that let out near the bathroom in NOS next to the train station. They gave us a pass that would let us to the front of the line of any ride we wanted but it was already the end of the night and after that, we were done. LOL To this day my daughter still doesn't like going on Pirates because she thinks we are gonna get stuck.

Most recently for me . . .

Roger Rabbit's Car Toon Spin (Disneyland) -
We were about half way through. Didn't wait long before CMs came through and escorted us off in groups. Since that is a dark, semi-fast, spinning ride it was interesting to view it at walking speed and with the lights on. Noticed lots of little things I probably would never have noticed otherwise.

Grizzly River Run (DCA) -
We were just approaching the first drop, at night, when the ride came to a stop. Being wedged between two ride vehicles, ours tipped enough to bring tons of water gushing in and soaked our legs up to our knees. I don't remember how long we had to wait, but it was long enough for them to drain the river before walking us down the mountain. That was the day I learned to bring at least two pairs of shoes to DLR - even if only staying for two days/one night.

We've had to walk off Alice in Wonderland (very cool - got to walk through the parts with the cards and come out backstage). We've also had to get off Casey Junior and walk backstage behind Never Never Land (because they "never never take you there") to see where the extra Storybookland Canal boats are docked.

No, but we started to wonder if we were bad luck when we were getting to rides because of the number that were closed when we were going to them (or even near them). Thunder Mountain and Splash Mountain had just closed for maintenance when we were trying to get in line. Indiana Jones broke down when we were almost to the front of the line. Pirates broke down while we were eating in Blue Bayou, and MuppetVision was closed when we spent the full day in DCA (it was open the next day thankfully).

We never get stuck on a ride. What always happens is we get to the front of the line then it breaks down. There was one time when we were in line for Space Mountain. When we got to the space ship thing they had to evacuate the ride because some people got stuck on it.

Is it interesting getting stuck on a ride?

Surprisingly in the amount of times i have been to Disneyland, i've been thankful as to not have any ride break down on me to the point where we have to get off. For some reason, HM always gets stopped mid ride for a few minutes sometimes and almost every time i have ridden Buzz, it has stopped and we come out with a whopping score :D
Indiana has broken down a couple times while i was in line but we waited it out.

I think the reason that Haunted Mansion and Buzz stop in the middle of the ride is to let people on who are in wheelchairs. I guess thats somewhat getting stuck on a ride.

We got stuck on the Winnie the Pooh ride and had to get escorted out. Let's just say it's not as magical with the lights on!;)

We got stuck on Small World. I forget what was wrong, but the back-up of boats was so bad that our boat got sandwiched, literally. We even started taking on water, and I'm not joking or exaggerating. We didn't move for 35 minutes and then we slowly crept through the ride, getting stuck a second time for about 5 minutes. We joked with the other riders (strangers) that we'd need serious therapy.

:pirate: That's so funny, I wonder if we were on it at the same time?! It was about six years ago, we were stuck right before the last uphill climb...music stopped, lights turned on, but everything was still moving. Totally weird. We were offloaded from the boat, taken up a couple flights of stairs, through a break area, and through the backlot. It was cool and weird at the same time. We also received some voucher and we were already done for the night! The experience changed the magic for me, but it did not change my love of the ride. I'm so glad I don't have kids!

It seems that when your in line for a ride and you are looking forwards to it, it breaks down.

I didn't think that you could break down on It's A Small World?

Sometimes the water level gets too low and
a boat will bottom out and the boats behind
that one get backed up as well.

That's when someone appears out of nowhere
and pulls the boat a little ways with a pole
with a hook on the end.

In the past 2 days:
Indiana Jones
Mike & Sulley to the Rescue

Really disappoints when you're lead off the ride and see some of the effects...

Especially with young kids in tow!

Yeah I bet. Like I know someone who was on Space Mountain and it broke down, so they had to turn on the lights to get them off.

We were on the Great Movie Ride at MGM in May 2006 when it broke down. We were stuck in the Wizard of Oz scene for about 20 minutes. The CM did her best to make small talk but pretty much ran out of stuff to say after about 10 minutes. She asked people for questions/comments. It was my DS's 9th birthday that day, so the whole group of about 25 people or so on the ride sang "Happy Birthday" to him while we waited for the head CM's to come and rescue us out of the ride. We were the lucky group, the people behind us were stuck in the "Alien" scene that whole time. We were each escorted out of the ride vehicle and got to walk out of the ride thru the "back" of the ride. It kinda turned into a neat & memorable experience.

I've never been on a ride that has broken down. I don't know if I would want to but it would be cool to see the stuff that you dont normaly see.

Haunted Mansion (it used to break down more than it was running), and Buzz Lightyear. Fortunately, we got stopped right in front of the orange robot and one of my 4 year olds got space ace ranking, level 9!!!!

I've never been stuck on any rides at Disneyland. Like someone else said, they usually break down just before we are about to get on. The only time I've been "stuck" here in CA, was at Universal. Our tram died right on the dock of the Jaws attack. Unfortunately my parents were visiting from out of town ... I told them this has never happened before.

It's A Small World, the first room. Had to listen to those evil dolls sing for 15 minutes. We said if we were to break down at least it should have been in the next room with more to do.

Sometime we used to get stuck in the People Mover every once it a while. But you didn't mind it because you could look around.

I heard a funnier story from somebody a few weeks ago that we were riding in the monorail with. She said the night before they got on just before closing. The ride broke down in the middle. She said the problem was the ride then shut down and all the dolls were turned off. The cast members said they had to wait for some reason and couldn't get them out for a while. She said it was scary seeing all those dolls not moving. I said at least they didn't turn the lights out on you and wait until morning to come get you.

Yep, Several times actually. Once on Its a Small world.. Sat in that ride for about an hour due to some kind of massive backup. Actually ended up going backwards for most of the ride due to it. Ultimatly ended up having to go out a backstage exit and get a pass to skip some lines.

Another time.. Was on Pirates of the Caribbean.. the ride got stuck at the first drop just before you went down. So we were at the Talking Skull and Crossbones on the all over the first drop for like 30 minutes. It wasn't bad as it was a hot day and was a nice rest.

Also once on the Matterhorn we got on.. the ride brokedown... and we got off before even leaving the platform. Had to stand infront of the line for like 45 minutes before it ran. But Considering that Matterhorn is one of my favorites I didn't mind the wait.

I'm sure there have been other times but those are really the three that stick out in my mind the most. :)

I have been stuck on four Disney rides in my life.

1. Buzz Light Year - for about 20 min. don't know why but you could see flashlights coming up from below us.

2. Haunted Mansion - we were stuck for about 20 min because someone got out and tried to walk around, to show off for their friends. So they stopped the ride until they caught them.

3. Spaceship earth - I was stuck for about 30 min on the part where the ride tips backwards.

And the best of them all…..
I was stuck on El Rio De Tempo in 95' for over an hour and a half. We were stuck in the end where you sail through the market and people keep running by talking to you. They never took us off the ride nor did they tell us what happened. You could hear people in the other boats yelling and getting restless. For me the only traumatizing part was the part of the ride we were stuck in and having to listen to it for over an hour. I never went on that ride again.

About 3 years ago, we were on the Sun Wheel at DCA and noticed that the California Screamin' was stopped right near the top of the huge hill. Maybe a problem with the magnetic propulsion system? Anyway, after several minutes, we saw CMs walking up the stairs and begin to unload the passengers. OMG!! Keep in mind that the stairs are made from a grate and you can see right through them, and they are like 150 ft. (more?)in the air! Oh yeah, and there's also like 10,000 of them. Man, they would have had to get a crane and lift my catatonic body out of there! :rotfl:

I have a couple of pictures, but have no idea how to post them. I can e-mail them to anyone interested, though.

I've seen people stuck on Screamin' a couple times at the point where you just start. It launches and just stops them. I ask Cast Members about that. Things may have changed over the last couple of years, but they said that if the cars don't attain a certain speed to go up that ramp then it brakes the car there so its not stuck higher up.

I always had a fear of getting taken off of the top in the back by one of those cranes. I've seen that happen on TV when that happened. I think I would decide to just sit there and wait it out.

For me it would be on Snow White's ride. It broke down at the scary forest. When it broke down the lights came on and you could hear the music going on for Pinocchio's ride. We had to stay in the cart for about a few mintues then the castmember took us out. When we walk out it didn't seem that long of a walk. That's my very first ride that I've been on that broke down.

We were stuck IASW during Christmas, I thought my DH was going to pass out. We also were stopped on Space MTN, right before the turn to go fast, they turned the lights on and it was wierd riding it in the light, however when we got back to the station, we were sent again:thumbsup: But my favorite stuck ride was on Pooh, the doors would not open, so we got sent again, My kids loved it my Dh not so much, when we came out again, they jokingly told my DH he would have to go again. He is still leary of that ride.
But the all time amazing stuck ride was when the Skyride lines were crossed and 103 people had to plucked from the Sky by a firetruck, I was there, coolest thing to see, so glad that I was not on the ride. :mickey:

This past April must have been a tough one at WDW. I"ve never been stuck on a ride but in April we got stuck on Spaceship earth- going backwards, Maelstrom in Norway, Kali River Rapids and right before getting on Pirates that kept getting stuck too!

I didn't find it funny at all. My 4 year old lost his mind!
