Since its opening in 1971, 5 years is the longest stretch of time that WDW has gone without the addition of a major attraction to one of its theme parks (Space Mountain 1975 - Big Thunder Mountain 1980).

I remember going to WDW in 1980, being all of 6. I got to ride Big Thunder Mountain with my grandfather.
A few months later I went with my grandparents to West Virginia. I told them riding in the car was like riding Thunder Mountain. They love to tell that story to this day!
