Taking us to halftime is a question concerning two similar rides at Magic Kingdom. Do you prefer the classic "Dumbo" ride or the fairly new "Magic Carpets of Aladdin"?

The second half kicks off with an unusally placed question. It'll be in the "Movies, TV, Music and Musicals" thread, most likely on Friday.

Agreed. Carpets may actually be a better ride, but Dumbo is a Walt Disney World ICON. :dumbo: Congrats on the halfway point, and keeping us all coming back for more each day! You truly are the King of the Sea!

To tell you the truth I do not care for either ride. Up, down, around, and a total waste of time (all 90 seconds of it).

I voted for Dumbo. Although, so many trips we skipped the ride all together. We'll probably ride it this year just because it will be the first trip that DD#2 (2 1/2) has some sort of understanding, she may enjoy it. If the line is long there is no way we would waste time waiting. Too many other great things to do in the area.

If I had to ride one, it would be the carpets. But I don't have to ride.

I think Dumbo, the classic, is the only ride of this type Disney needed and they could have done so much more with an Aladdin-themed ride. The camel's fun, but I voted for Dumbo.

Dumbo!

My DD is a huge fan of the movie and the ride is just a Disney Classic.

I'd like to say Dumbo but the lines for Magic are so much shorter so I voted for Alladin.

I voted for the Magic Carpets of Aladdin. I like how they have numbers there so you know you are going to get in a carpet, and it's just so lovely where it is. Dumbo is pure chaos!

For me it's gonna be Dumbo... It's a classic.

Dumbo.

And :congrats: King Triton on hitting the big 5-0.

Though it is a little sad, kind like when you hit the 1/2 way point of your trip and you know it is going to end soon. :(

Say it ain't so, Joe!

I chose Dumbo, though I don't remember going on either one. I just chose Dumbo for nostalgia reasons.

I am in the minority on this one. I think that the themeing on the Carpets is excellent. I especially love the "spitting" camel. It's location also seems to fit the area, while Dumbo seems to be placed in a available spot without much planning on what is around it.

Too true. Don't you just hate it when you hit that midway point and start thinking of what awaits you back in the real world???

I voted Dumbo, I'm sure we will be riding it much more in future years with little ones on the way.

I voted for the carpets. DD loves them, but doesn't like Dumbo :confused:We've explained a million times that they are the same ride, but she's not buying it.

Plus, the camel is a cute addition, so, carpets all the way for us!

Thankfully our DS doesn't see any big deal with Dumbo so we don't have to run there at park opening. I've personally never understood the nostalgia of that ride just because it's shaped like an elephant. The Magic Carpets is a little better ride with a fraction of the line. I can leave Dumbo to everyone that sees something in it that I don't.

I voted for Dumbo The Flying Elephant strictly for the sake of nostalgia.

I like that the carpets hold more people and the back can control some of the movement.

But there is nothing like riding a classic ride that you rode as a child, with your own children. :D

I voted for the carpets. We rode it at night last time and the whole area just had a magical feel to it.

Also - getting on Dumbo is such a mess. It always seems disorganized.

Dumbo just because I remember forcing my parents to wait in line over and over to ride it with me when I was little. I've outgrown but there are a lot of fond memories with those little elephants! :D

I am one to always defend these rides. Would I wait forever for them... no. But I think both are in good locations meaning that once you are on them and flying around, you really do get to see some neat things. And they are better than your normal hub and spoke ride that you'll find in most amusement parks because adults can sit in them too!!! As a child I don't remember a single other place where my parents could go on a "kiddie ride" with me. And that is what prompted Walt to build Disneyland in the first place.
Do I think that Aladdin deserves a better ride? Yes.
But one of my best experiences at WDW was riding those Magic Carpets during Wishes. Amazing.
But I voted for Dumbo because I for one LOVE running to Dumbo first thing in the morning, and I am 21 years old and childless. :dumbo:

Hey! Nothing beats flying around Fantasyland! This type of ride would be totally skipable in any other setting. But with Cindy's Castle and Carrosel in view, flying with Dumbo is just one of those classic Disney moments.

Dumbo... for a few reasons. 1- It's a classic and has been there for many years. 2- You can get some great photos of the park and Castle (if you let someone else "drive" your Dumbo.) And 3- Dumbo just FITS into Fantasyland. The carpets seem a little out of place in Adventureland. (Really, how much of an adventure is it to fly around in a circle?)

DREAMADREAM93

Gotta be Dumbo because it is so "Disney".

Although i do enjoy Aladdin more because i try to get who ever is in my carpet with me soaked and see how many times a can jerk the carpet around. i guess you could say im your typical female driver;)

DUMBO!:dumbo: The Dumbo ride is pure Disney fantasy, an icon that will live forever! Kids the world over love this ride! However, I do find it odd and a bit unoriginal that WDW has two other rides so similar to Dumbo.

Well technically, I can not do either. I get majorly  on the spinning rides like them or teacups or M:S. But if i had to choose one to do, it would be :dumbo:. For nostalgia and all that jazz :D

I don't know why, but I've never been a fan of the Dumbo ride.(Could be because when I was little I cried when I saw Dumbo's mom locked up and fell asleep soon after that.:( It was many years later that I actually found out that Dumbo and his mom were reunited.:D) Alladin, however, is one of DD and my favorite movies and therefore favorite rides.
