DH and I just bought 200 at BWV with a UY of Oct. We currently have 213 available in the 2007 UY. If we were to plan a May 2008 vaca that exceeds our 213 pts...can we dip into the 2008 UY pts now or do I have to wait until Oct 2007 to make the ressies and borrow 08 pts?

If your UY is October, you haven't gotten your 2007 points yet? You won't get them until October 2007.

Do you still have 2006 points? Is that what you mean?

I am definitely a bit confused - sorry, probably my comprehension...

If you have 213 "currently available," you can bank those (although with an October UY, not sure if you can bank 100% of those now?).

For the May trip next year, you can book 11 months out at BWV with any banked points and points available for that time (you don't need the points available when you bank, only when you're there!). You can make ressies 11 months out - as long as points are available for when you stay.

I think that I got it right, although I'm every bit as confused now as when I initially read the post!

Sorry I'm 7 months pregnant so I have an excuse not make much sense

ok..when I talked to MS today to get my membership number (we just closed on 5/31), the guy had said that I do not have any 2006 pts available. I have 213 in my 2007 pts.

Say I want to make my ressie for May 08 and the pts I need exceeds that 213 that I have in my Oct 07 pts. Does it matter? Will MS just "borrow' the remainder that I need to fulfill that ressie from my 08 pts?

Or have I still confused you?

Congratulations on your pregnancy! My best wishes for your upcoming bundle of joy! :babyroll:

At the 11 month mark (assuming you want to stay at the BW) make your ressies - with size of accomodations and the view you want. The CM at Member Services (MS) will inform you if you need to "borrow" any of next years points. It's really easy to do. You can figure out the number of points you will use ahead of time - so you know how many you'll use and how many you'll need to borrow. Just look online at the DVC website or in your handbook for point usage. :mickey:

I think the answer to your question is no, actually. Here's why ...

You can only borrow points from your next use year. Right now your next use year is 2007, meaning you can only borrow 2007 points.

You won't be able to borrow any 2008 points until you cross over into your 2007 UY, which doesn't start until October.

So if you really need to borrow points for your May '08 ressie, you'll have to wait until after October 1st to book it.

With an October use year, a May 2008 vacation falls within the 2007 use year. (October 2007 use year runs from 10/1/2007 to 9/30/2008). For a May 2008 vacation, she can use 2007 points, points that were banked from 2006 or she can borrow points from her 2008 use year.

You can always call to make a reservation 11 months prior to the check out date. So the OP can call to reserve a May 2008 vacation in June 2007. She is entitled to borrow from her 2008 allotment when she makes that reservation if she wants to do that.

In fact, I just made a reservation for May 2008 and borrowed a few points from my 2008 allotment to do it. I have an August use year. There was no problem at all with the borrowing (except that I will have less points for 2008 use year vacations, LOL).

CarolMN is correct.

Okay, that doesn't really make sense to me, based on how it was explained to me, but okay.

I guess it depends on what UY your vacation falls in and not depending on when you book??

Thats right Ian - you can book when you like within the 11/7 month windows but the number of points you have available relates to your dates of travel, not the date you book the trip.

Yes, you did! Thanks!

That's actually really interesting, though, because I asked the rep I talked to when I made my first ressies this exact question and she told me that you could only borrow points from your next use year.

I asked if it was based on when you called or when your stay was and she said it was based on when you called.

Guess I got a newbie!

I just wanted to say that this was the BEST thread about Use Year's and banking and borrowing that I have ever read. I have been SO super confused by the UY issue and I now I finally finally understand.

THANK YOU!!!!

Guess I got a newbie!Yes - you probably did. There must be several new CMs who need some more training or experience. I am seeing quite a few posts in which callers received incorrect information. Hope no one missed out on a reservation because of it.

If anyone is having trouble with use year, it helps to make your self a chart - here's an example for someone who has a December use year:

2006 points are valid to pay for stays 12/1/2006 through 11/30/2007.
2007 points are valid to pay for stays 12/1/2007 through 11/30/2008.
2008 points are valid to pay for stays 12/1/2008 through 11/30/2009.
2009 points are valid to pay for stays 12/1/2009 through 11/30/20010.
Etc.

1.First, decide the dates of your desired vacation. For example, let's say you want to check in on April 26, 2008 and check out on May 2, 2008.

2. Look on the chart to see which use year your dates fall. In the example, it would be in the 2007 use year (12/1/2007 - 11/30/2008).

3. Now you know that you need 2007 use year points for that vacation. Since you can bank one year ahead, you could also use points from your 2006 use year if you banked them before you make the reservation. You can also borrow from one use year ahead, so you could use 2008 use year points for your 4/26/08-5/2/2008 vacation.

4. For those dates, you could have called to make the reservation at a home resort as early as June 2, 2007, because June 2, 2007 is 11 months prior to your desired check out date of May 2, 2008 (and MS is now open on Saturdays). If June 2 happened to fall on a day that MS wasn't open, you would have had to wait until the next day that they were open to call for your reservation.

5. If you want to try for a non-home resort, you can't call until 11/2/2007 (because 11/2/2007 is 7 months prior to your desired check out date.

For the example, I assumed you would only make one call to reserve your vacation, but of course, you could have called day by day to make it if you thought it necessary.

Anyway, make a chart for your use year until this becomes second nature to you - and it will! Soon you will feel comfortable challenging the MS CMs passing out the bad info! :)

This is a great thread - I was wondering the very same thing as I plan a visit for next year. Thanks for all the great information!:mickey:
