I took my family to R&C in early May. R&C has been one of our favorites. When we were checking in I told the young lady that we were on the DDP and she escorted us to our table. When she gave the menu to me, I noticed that it was missing several items that were on the menu when we last visited in Oct 2006. Menu items such as their Beef Stew (one of my Dad's favorites) and the Cottage Pie. I ask the waitress about this and she answered before I could get the question out of my mouth that they had a new Executive Chef and he dropped several dishes. Since the waitress answered so quickly, it got me wandering if DDP guests get a different menu than if you are paying OOP.
Has anyone else experienced this???? Are other WDW Resturants limiting menu items if you are on DDP????

The people paying out of pocket and people on DDP get the same menu but a lot of the restaurants have made significant changes to their menus in the past 2 years or so.

Correct, we all get the same slop. It's just they have changed many of the menus to optimize profits from the DDP.

Don't worry, we all get the limited selections now... Thanks Disney!

I smell a conspiracy theory.

Doesn't seem to me that using separate menus would make much business sense. DDP brings people in, it fills the seats. Typically, more customers is a good thing for a business.

I just wrote this on another thread, I suspect the menu changes are the result of economic pressures. They are an attempt to cut costs. Perhaps without the DDP, and the full seats, they would have had to make deeper menus cuts.

But that's just my opinion.... I could be wrong.

The menus are smaller all over Walt Disney World restaurants. We can all thank the Disney Dining Plan for leaving patrons with a choice of four appetizers and five entrees.

I'm so glad I read this thread. I was trying to decide if I wanted to make R&C one of my choices again or try something new. I usually can't wait to order my cottage pie but if they don't have it, then I'll go somewhere else. I mean what is cheaper to make than cottage pie?? And it is truly an English meal.

According to the posted menus, both here on Intercot and elsewhere, R&C still has Cottage Pie. I've never eaten there, so can't comment, but perhaps it would be worth double checking before writing it off.

The Cottage Pie was definitle removed from the Menu at R&C. I took my family there for dinner on May 1st. That was the dish I wanted to try this time. I also agree, Ground Beef is cheaper then the Fish that is served.

. . . I suspect the menu changes are the result of economic pressures. They are an attempt to cut costs. Perhaps without the DDP, and the full seats, they would have had to make deeper menus cuts . . .

1) The menu changes, in many cases, are a result of DDP.
2) DDP only reimburses a set amount.
3) To maximize the eatery profit, menu items are changed.
. . . some items are eliminated
. . . some items are shrunk in size
. . . some items are less creative
4) Unfortunately, we have ourselves to blame
. . . we want more food
. . . we want to graze and be stuffed
. . . we want volume over uniqueness
. . . we want to eat, regardless of quality

NOTE: Certainly, some folks are more discriminating about their food, but most just are not aware of whether they are eating food that is unique or of quality.

Is this based on speculation, or inside information that some of the rest of us may not be aware of.

Hmmmm. I guess that's one point of view.

Actually, the table service restaurants that I have experienced have had a variety of selections. I wouldn't even come close to saying that they didn't have their own uniqueness. Although, I have by no means visited them all. I suppose for guest who visit with much greater frequency, and have visited more of the choices available, perhaps they would be more aware of the lack of uniqueness.

As for peoples ability to judge quality, I guess that's a personal thing. Everyone has different tastes and preferences, but that doesn't mean they lack the ability to judge food quality they just like different things.
